the series is too fast paced and it is like they forcing shit to happen like the scene where the girl fell into the hole and found the evolved zippleback dragon and then she was like i am going to train this dragon like come on she should have been terrified and trying to hide or get away but no the dragon loves her instantly and things like what. They should take their time and build up and not rush it. even if the animation is bad if the story is good people will still watch it but both story and animation are bad. again even with the change wing dragon it followed the smart girl home like even if it did follow her it would make more sense for it to want to like hunt her or something like they make so that the dragon wanted to bond with her like what, this thing has never seen people and the first thing it wanted to do is bond with one wow.

What I think would've been nice is if Season 1 was about 12 episodes, with 6 being spent mostly to focus on Tom and Thunder. Having us learn that Tom became a big ball of energy through his mother geologist expeditions. Where Tom would climb mountains because he had no friends, and adults are boring gathering experience to join his mother's conversations. And have Tom's arc ending with the lost world being discovered, via his geologist experience, and being discovered by D'Angelo. Who wants to be like the US Rangers. Having him be this series "Snotlout" but is smarter with the downside being he is too eager to take command, and uses military commands, to which Tom doesn't understand. D'Angelo having some basic study as a Veterinarian assistant (which for his age wouldn't be unheard of) together with Tom could study the dragons, but as D'Angelo is a rule follower and wants to tell his dad. This could be the conflict for them which gets heated until the last episode in which Jun overhears and becomes the middle ground, and new companion. Setting up for season 2. In terms of Plowhorn she is bonding with D'Angelo during his arc, we get some back story into him, and the dragon world.

Umm not really a fan of the series either but somethings that u stated aren't really the case,to be honest if u paid close attention towards the personality of the characters u would realize that its a main contributor to them bonding with that particular dragon for example The fire and ice dragon-it was similar to the asian girl in many ways,in the instance of the dragon being trapped in the cave its like a deeper meaning for also how the girl feels-she feels lost and alone and because her mother doesn't seem to understand her very well she felt as though she didn't have anyone she could count on or have a person to support her beliefs the dragon's situation is quite similar its trapped and feels scared and lost and when they finally found each other and realize that they both can bond with each other that's how well-they became friends,also the dragon wasn't too friendly with the girl so u can't say they had a good relationship to start with-also they both are apart of the same traditional belief the dragon is a chinese dragon that's why it represent yin and yang,balance and the gotee and whiskers also was based on chinese dragon lore and description. Don say the dragons formed a bond with the kids quickly because last time i check the gem eater dragon almost roasted them and they only befriended it after the kids helped it's wing and also helped her fought off the other bully dragons. The camo dragon also share similarities to the tech girl personality and over depiction wise,the girl is afraid of going outside and doesn't feel safe being anywhere unless its a computer she feels scared and because of her fear it prevented her from finding friends and spending time with her moms,the dragon on this hand seemed to be also shy its abilities would depict it as a dragon who is in constant hiding it is also a representation of how the girl feels and it can also read her emotions that's why they bonded,the dragon realized the girl isn't too different from her and it overcame its fear and wanted her to do so as well. So before u come here spatting a bunch of shit just watch closely and see how much stuff u realize

Just because a dragon looks Asian inspired doesn’t mean it should bond with the Asian person, just because a dragon is chunky doesn’t mean it should bond with the meat head and just because a dragon can turn invisible doesn’t mean it should bond with the shy girl at least not immediately. If you watch the how to train your dragon movies or heck the series you would see the process that the riders go through in order to connect with their dragons which is the thing that is missing the process

My big problem with this show aside from the animation was how downright weird some of the dragons proportions were. But hey who knows they could just be inbred it this point.

About the characters finding the gender of their dragons in the first movie, let's not forget Fishlegs thought Meatlog was a male till the gift of the night fury and Im pretty sure the gender of Barf and Belge was never mentioned in the movie, but I could be wrong about that.

most dragons in the series go ungendered (with exception of the main team ones, who get gendered during the gift of the night fury, the only one who is never really fuly confirmed is Barf and Belge) the remaining ones either get named/sexed offscream midway large time spams, or they are never gendered and go with "he" or "she" based on names or basic knoloadge of the species

barf and belch are called "he" in the tv series donno when it was mentioned if at all in the movies though. Didnt they also find out stormfly was a girl bc she had eggs with hookfang? Also the OG creators said that Fury dragons are gendered by their eyes. So either the creators of this spinoff messed up, thunder is actually transgender, or tom messed uo bc thunder should be a girl since its eyes are blue not green

If I didn’t know better, the invisible dragon is suppose to be the replacement of the changewing The dragon can turn invis and also mimics, two things the change wing does

Of course, Dragons Nine Realms is not HTTYD because the dragons we have loved so much have changed. It is a sad truth when Hiccup said about dragons are still waiting for us humans to return, but only to realize that we humans changed a lot too. Sure, there are good people in this world but the ones that have power will decide on which course of action that leads to the extinction of dragons or just human greediness.

I think the blonde guy is related to the twins. The mom looks a LOT like Tuffnut. Maybe they'll shoe in a set of twins later to have dragons of their own or something. Maybe they'll see the backlash and change some things. Though, in my sisters words: It's a little kids' show. It feels like it's supposed to be for older audiences, but it's not.

Non-real-feeling chracter, "Dogs half my size terrify me, but dragons big enough to eat me alive in a couple bites are awesome!" No one, absolutely no one, "Well that sounds totally plausible."

They could at least made the dragon look little bit more like toothless and light fury Am I right

You guys have to remember. A species can have a lot of changes within 1500 years. Also there were more Light Furies in the Hidden World. And contrary to popular belief in certain species of animals inbreeding doesn't really affect them too much. Mind you this is only certain species. Example being rabbits. My friend has been breeding them for years. Some are inbred. And the ones that are inbred actually have good genetics.

The TV series was the peak of the HTTYD franchise, they got Mark Hamill as Alvin the Treacherous and Alfred Molina as Viggo Grimborn, there's no topping those names.

I think Tom and his mom are descendants of Hiccup and Astrid which I think everyone already guessed, and I guess 1,300 years is a long time I mean according to wiki Hiccup and Astrid became parents at age 25 and 1,300 divided by 25 is 52 generations give or take some might later or earlier than 25 years old when they became parents. and what happened between Hiccup dying and the modern world when did Hiccup's descendants immigrate to America? probably in the mid-1800s when most Nordics immigrated to the US, Tom said they came from Vikings I wonder if some of Hiccup's descendants moved to Norway or Iceland, and then their descendants immigrated to the US during the time when a lot of Nordic people immigrated to the US. I wonder why Tom has Hiccup's Viking helmet and why is it is such great shape after 1,300 years I mean that must be some powerful paint to still be that bright after over a thousand-year I wonder if New Berk is still around or if like Old Berk it got distorted or maybe everyone just moved away maybe it's been modernized or maybe it's like one of the villages that are stuck in time and still look the same as it did 1,300 years ago with little to no modernization

I feel Race to the Edge deserves more respect. It's animation is almost on par with the original How to Train Your Dragon. Yes, it lack next to the 2nd and 3rd, but keeps up with the 1st pretty well. Especially next to Riders and Defenders of Berk. Those shows have jank animation. But even those shows have good writing. I can get invested in what is going on after episode 4 of season 1. The first few episodes are cringe endorsing. But for the most part after it finds it legs in episode 5, Riders of Berk is actually really good. And Defenders carries on with no rough bumps Race to the Edge's writing is good. Especially season 2 onward. Season 1 isn't bad. But it is a set up season, and so the first half is focused on getting everything in place after the 3 year time jump. I haven't watched this new show. And I have no desire to do so. I knew that if they went back to Dragons they would set it in present day. That is the way the books are basically set up. Just read the epilogues of the first 3 books. They talk about the heroes of the future. Which is fine. But it dose not interest me.

I just, refuse to watch 9 Realms, it looks shit, I don't like the fact that NOBODY who had character development from the Movies or Race to the Edge appears, its bunch of new characters, and yes the nightlight thing isn't exactly new, its still stupid as fuck. The show looks crap, it has nothing to do with HTTYD other then "Oooo Dragons!" the animation looks shite etc.

What is missing from this compared to the actual movies and offshoots? Heart, Alteori. Heart. Passion. A love for the How to Train Your Dragon universe. This? This is a cashgrab so soulless you see it in the character models' eyes. EDIT: I did a bit of digging around, comparing Nine Realms to both Race to the Edge and Defenders of Berk, and both Defenders and Race had quite a bit of crossover in the writing department, with a lot of people working on both series (which is why it felt consistent and it felt like it was actually, you know, good.) Nine Realms? In the writing department, there's only 1 writer (the staffwriter for Race to the Edge) and 1 director that it shares with Race to the Edge. The writer wrote 2 episodes (First Flight Pt. 2 and Fault Ripper) and the director only did 1 episode (ironically, First Flight pt. 2 as well). Other than that, the entire production team looks... Too small. For a project like Dragons. Sure, both RTTE and D/RoB had multiple seasons, but I don't think that that should affect how many people are working on it to make it look good or at least decent. For fuck's sake, the animation department is 3 people! No wonder the animations look jankier than puppet theater!

I agree. So much of what worked for the movies was passion. Camp Cretaceous still feels like it has passion and Steve Spielberg had even told the crew and the others not to "kiddie it up". Even though you can call camp Cretaceous a kid's show, it has the right amount of balance when it comes to the elements of danger, comedy, mystery, and action. Sure, the action is still in favor of keeping the kids safe, but at least you somewhat feel as though there's an element of danger because we've seen them getting hurt. We see dinosaurs getting killed.

@@Alteori I think the biggest reason that CC works is because I believe either Trevorrow or Spielberg is directly involved with it and actually works together with that team to make sure they don't do... You know, whatever Nine Realms is. While I'm not a fan of the latest season of CC (too much futuretech and robots) I'm on the same page as you when it comes to the stakes in the show. Sure, we know none of the kids will be hurt or killed, but seeing the dinosaurs actually getting hurt and killed, other people being killed, etc... still gives the show that edge of "there's actual danger here." It's for kids, but it doesn't wrap them up in a blanket and gives them a hot cocoa saying "You're completely safe here." which is what Nine Realms does.

Facts though. The music gave me chills as well, and it’s so nostalgic. The music here though? Really wasn’t doing it for me.

The real kicker for me on how tame the dragons were was when Tom was trying to make himself seem bigger and like more of a threat and Thunder just... kept calmly walking towards him? Like, dragons are supposed to be apex predators, shouldn't he have at least gotten hostile in return? I dunno, that was the moment I really got pulled out of the show.

is no one else gonna talk about how they just FLIPPED the color pallet for the hidden world? in the movies, the alpha nest and the hidden world had an abundance of cool colors! blues, greens, some hints of purple. and this one in the new series is YELLOW?! WHY IS IT YELLOW (i'm typing at the 9ish minute mark)

I have so much disdain for this, as a How to Train your Dragon fan, I am mortified by this. Not only did they kill the franchise with a horrible 3rd movie that has over a thousand plot-holes, now they are milking the dead cow trying to get as much from it as possible even if they said they were done with it. It's horrible, it is not even HTTYD anymore, and I refuse to accept this is canonly related to HTTYD. The dragons aren't even the original ones...they're all new species that look like they came from Rescue Riders...and Thunder isn't even a fury, he's literally what 1,300 years of Night-light incest looks like... Not to mention the modern era is just... a big "NO" for me, just...no...screw modern I want Vikings riding dragons into glorious battle, discovering a new, untamed world full of other dragons. They even used the same, og dragon sounds... it makes no sense at all that these new, random, ugly af dragon species make the same exact sounds as the other older, good, original species.

Woah Woah, dude, I concede that the third film was the weakest in the franchise but "horrible with a thousand plot-holes"? It was nowhere near that bad. Evenstill I have my own gripes with the series, the animation was way too similar to camp cretaceous, the characters human and dragon are stiff like the animators are afraid to make them too much like the original characters. The period is also annoying to me because if you're going to catapult centuries into the future then commit to it and have the show demonstrate it. Also, the animators need to remember what series this is, one with fighting and maiming and death albeit presented in ways suitable for the audience. Now, this could be completely my fault but as a wildlife researcher and fan of the series, something that bugged me was how they immediately understood upon first glance the genders of each of the dragons. Like my first thought was that Tom was just saying "he" because that's just what people assume, and I was patiently waiting for him to correct himself later because I 100% believed that Thunder was Dart grown up. That didn't happen and I became more agitated as children younger than sixteen with no expertise on animals besides maybe D'Angelo were not only taming dragons in minutes, not only coming up with species names with no real understanding of them, not only deciphering genders, temperaments, intelligence levels, and abilities in no time at all, but they did this all on newly discovered species of animals with no background information! Like, have Hiccups journal where he wrote about these creatures, show Tom and the others examining or playing with them and learning things about them. And for Odin's sake make the bonding between the dragons and riders more realistic.

The 3rd movie wasn’t horrible at all and it certainly didn’t ‘kill’ the franchise.

I was very excited for this series, how to train your dragon was such a good series. Though after watching it I was left very disappointed, even my little sister who is about a decade younger who is the age this is target for and she had seen the original and was left quite disappointed. They had so much potential with the concept but the lackluster written and the sloppy animation compared to the amazing visuals from the original is just sad.

These were my expectations for the show: START 1) "Everyone has their stories, but this one is the best. It's my favorite cuz it's mine." That is the dumbest line I have ever heard, as far as I remember. Fire the idiot who scripted that. 2) Why does the CGI look like it was made half a decade before the first movie? 3) This show has the same length as a normal movie. So why not make it one? Why is it not on Netflix? To make it harder to watch. They know general audiences will hate it. They're betting true fans will track it down and be so desperate for more content they'll support the show. 4) Adding guns makes dragons completely defenseless. Tranq darts were a thing in the franchise till now. But the poor animals are so weak against new tech it'll be a generic 'Save the animal.' show. 5) The way they described the 'misfits' is so generic. Like a generic teen movie. 6) Why does the poster look exactly like the poster for HTTYD-1, but worse CGI? A fat kid, twins, a Fury-rider and a scary and beautiful dragon that resembles a Nadder? O.K. So, it's like the O.G. group without Snotlout and, this time, they're what? TikTokers? I won't watch it. I also theorize the Fury in the teaser is a pregnant female. It's just so fat compared to the Furies of the OG series. Or... the rebooted Toothless is fatter because they liked it. END It's really difficult to hate the show when you were expecting THAT. So, naturally, I really enjoyed the show & I hope season 2 resolves some of the stuff that got set up. Also, they changed Thunder's design so that his chest is bigger than this belly. Tom & Thunder are the worst duo compared to all the new ones introduced. They had their own bonding moments. Tom & Thunder's one was just a giant callback. As a whole, season 1 feels like the first episode of Power Rangers. Dude reason #1 can be easily debunked by watching the ACTUAL HTTYD TV series. Defenders of Berk and Race to the Edge are in all honesty the BEST stories of the franchise.

Reason # 6 might be weird. The thing is, I heard a rumor the show would have twins & a fat kid.

I actually kinda enjoyed this. I tried my hardest not to think of the technicalities before I send myself spiraling into insanity. Only thing that couldn't be hidden, was the fact that this was rushed.

It wasn't rushed, it was a setup. It felt like ep 1 of Power Rangers. Riders (Rangers) bond with their dragons (get their tech), beat a villain with almost no effort & vow to become heroes. Still, I loved the bonding moments of all of them, except Tom & Thunder.

1 issue i totally have is how ugly most of the dragons look. Like. the dragons our main characters get literally scream MAIN DRAGON Their colors are so weird and saturated, and they look like they just got mushed together in a design that kids would just think "Ooo, pretty colors!" Like bruh, Toothless is just 1 dang color but he looks amazing.

the dragons are designed with toy sales and ease of production in mind, that's what you caught on to.

all this time, I've really hoped they were making a sequel to Race to the Edge, where the characters we know come back to Berk better prepared to deal with dragons and more mature. They could have cut off the events of HTTYD2 and started from the moment Hiccup becomes chief and the whole gang trains for real with Valka, who knows dragons much more than Hiccup himself. Unfortunately, we got this... In what world did Dreamworks think this would be better than continuing the series we already knew?

i would have LOVED that. My sister and I just finished our HTTYD marathon and we wish for more xd . .just not this show

loved the review! What really got me was how the styles of the dragons clash so much. Like the fault ripper looks more harry potter styled, the two headed dragon just looks way too different from the other dragons. Barf and Belch actually looks like they fit into the gang.

You know it’s funny that many adults forget that children are smarter than they are given credit for and that is mostly because they are more subservient to their parents and less emotionally balanced. For example most kids around 7 to 10 years old most likely already know that Santa doesn’t exist they just enjoy pretending he does, I know it was like that for me around that age

I was so upset the fault ripper was not a screaming death I meant the timeline would line up if I remember right the screaming death is hatched from a whispering death egg once every thousand years

I think the reason why the hidden world looks less grandiose in the show is that it's only a part of it shows a small sliver, I have a theory that the hidden world actually spans the whole globe and has branches that span through the whole world

That's what I thought at first but they could have done a better job being this is Dreamworks. It's all the same color. Maybe my standards are too high 😂😂

As the 15 year old I am today and growing up watching httyd I look at this and say what a shame, dreamworks has done an awful cheap work in this last installment I grew up watching every single episode and movie of this trilogy so much that I get mental breakdowns everytime I listen to its music alone or think about the characters And how stoick died, this franchise left me speechless from its story, and made me amazed by its beauty I also loved the gift that stoick gave to hiccup(his mom's breastplate as a helmet) then how hiccup lost it in the sea and toothless was so determined to dive into the water right behind it was so heartfelt and also when toothless realised that he had the ability to fly on his own when he made him the yellowish geared tail that he should go and get it for him....and seeing that they put a scene where the kids or Tom finds hid old helmet(the breastplate) actually made me sob tears and later end up having to isolate myself for 2 days alone in my room.....I loved every bit of httyd I rematch it every year or 2 years and everytime I feel like I'm that young kid who used to watch it and get excited when the TV show came on cartoon network.....but now.....its over...they have chosen the path of failure the dragons look stupid as fuck the zippleback looks like that multicolored zippleback and monstrous nightmare hybrid from titan uprising the """"gronckle"""" looks like a mutated enlarged herc beetle with crystals somehow on its body the changewing thing looks like a stitch model reject(from lilo and stitch) The nightlight looks god awful looks like a cat and it's ears are thin not like round pads like toothless and the tail and the wings the body hoe the neck looks like its either broken or a pelican is weird af the graphics....sigh.....I don't know why do they even bother making a series if the main viking timeline is nearly over Why tf are you milking this series I know I can simply just not watch it but knowing that something like this exists and is supposed to somewhat reassemble httyd just makes me sick to the stomach My heart is broken and so is my soul seeing this animation rejection mess make it on screen Wish I could live in the past where this didn't exist and time didn't change and people would think before doing things.....

I feel you. It breaks me every time i hear the nostalgic music of HTTYD, my dreams were shattered once I heard THIS was the show, the new dreamworks dragon show. I was so excited, but then found out... This is not it. It doesn't feel the same, and I'm honestly so sad that they wont do anymore shorts or shows or movies. I'd honestly be fine with shorts in the old viking era, with hiccup n the others after they got children, or a show in the middle of httyd 2 and httyd 3.

Why is it that every urban fantasy, the mythical creatures and magic are hidden. I haven't watched it, but wouldn't there still be bones or other evidence of dragons existing?

Yeah and also. Toothless never would be able to bring every dragon down there. What about dragos bewilderbeast? What about the screaming death? Also many dragons would be out of reach for him to call to the hidden world. That's impossible. And also. Dragons already have been killed. So where are their bones

Because it's easier to write, if they where to not be hidden, then many aspects of the world would have to be changed, and different ways of exposition would have to be implemented, since by default the mc already knows the basics of their own world, and this results in having to think in a bunch of aspects that most people are unable or unwilling to, not everyone is Tolkien after all. So they stick with the "this whole world/society/group had always been here but is hidden for x reason (if they ever gave an explanation of why) so absolutely nothing is different, even thought it would change stuff anyway. But, I suppose once this genre had it's appeal, of discovered a whole magical world under your nose, something similar to an isekai. Sorry of the long reply, this troupe gets me on edge everytime.

Being completely honest, I am intrigued by the idea of dragons in our modern world. I personally have always dreamed of something like that after seeing the first HTTYD film, but from what you've said, I'm kinda losing hope in the concept being pulled off well. I've had my own ideas, but really I don't think they're that great. Plus, there's only so much they can do with needing to hide the dragons' existence from the world. What if instead we got a documentary-like show where we watch a dragon sneaking out to the surface and how they react to things like grass and trees and cars and buildings and furniture and crap like that! Maybe they'd like people watching in a way humans like bird watching! Seeing the different species different reactions would be so fun and could also have hints of an environmental message if they find... say, a couch in the middle of a forest. They could jump on in and try to sleep on it and claim those things as theirs. We could see their efforts to hide from people until one decides to get a little too close to a human and gets spotted. I dunno about you, but I'd love that!

Literally the only thing I liked about this was the concept of some people finding the hidden world in the modern day and desperately trying to keep them a secret, it feels like they did almost every single thing wrong about story-telling.

Honestly a lot of people dislike the modern setting, but I was super excited to see it and I think it could have been a really cool concept. That is, if the writers had treated the franchise with care instead of a cash grab for little kids. Imagine dragon rider traffic jams on your way to work, dragons helping fuel machines with their fire, ocean research teams that use aquatic dragons to take samples and explore the depths. Even just the dragons from the hidden world adjusting to modern technology, and humans discovering dragons through the news and social media. There could have been so many cool situations!

The new dragons are pretty weak in my POV The gem breaker a lava breathing rock horned dragon who has a squat build and rock proof hide who eats rock is traker class The new two headed one has “hot and cold breath” The invisible mimic dragon is called a feather hide, even though it has more notable features The dragons designs ,bar the gem breakers, arnt of my preference but I wish they used some older unused species (ie snap trapper) rather than just all new ones

In defense of the shy nerd not talking and then suddenly talking too much (I haven't seen the show, I'm mostly talking about the trope) I actually do that. I'm naturally an extrovert, but I've been conditioned to be shy and quiet, but if someone gets me talking it's like opening the floodgates and I don't shut up. This is why I don't have friends because someone will come over to talk to me because I look lonely, and I try to not devolve into mindless rambling, but it always happens and I scare them off XD

So, I just finished watching this myself the other day. When I first heard of this coming out, I was partially curiously, wondering if it could live up to the standards of HTTYD. Then when I found out it was only 6 episodes, that's when I got worried. Because at that moment I was like "Oh no... it's going to be one of those series where it's rushed and they try to cram everything into each episode which clearly could of be at least a few episodes long." And sadly, my fears were essentially seen. The series feels to rushed when it comes to the 'development' of the characters and story. They instantly knew the genders of each of their dragons, they instantly bonded over said dragons, there's so much that was just to rush to make this story that's not as engaging in comparison to HTTYD. If there's going to be a second season... I'm not even sure what I'd think of that notion.

Not to mention they were flying on Stormfly through the caverns to invoke just how massive this place is.

You know for centuries the fact that humans grow up so fast is actually something I have always appreciated the most about them. Sad they are just completely oblivious to this wonderful little feature to the little things.

The Netflix version is diet watership down. I recommend watching the original.

There is exactly one good thing about this show: the new dragon species. I meen, sure they look weird and uncanny in the show, but if you gave them a makeover in the main movie's style (fix the proportions, tweak a few details for better anatomy, add appropriate textures), they could really amount to something. And since the people behind this ... "thing" probably won't do it, I immensely look forward to how Alteori is gonna redesign the featherhide.

Jeez watching this has just made me upset. I was worried when we first heard of this show but this is worse than i expected. This cannot even remotely compare to any previous HTTYD movie or show. Literally everything about it is just miles worse. So upsetting.

My expectations were so low I enjoyed the show. The following were my concerns before watching: START 1) "Everyone has their stories, but this one is the best. It's my favorite cuz it's mine." That is the dumbest line I have ever heard, as far as I remember. Fire the idiot who scripted that. 2) Why does the CGI look like it was made half a decade before the first movie? 3) This show has the same length as a normal movie. So why not make it one? Why is it not on Netflix? To make it harder to watch. They know general audiences will hate it. They're betting true fans will track it down and be so desperate for more content they'll support the show. 4) Adding guns makes dragons completely defenseless. Tranq darts were a thing in the franchise till now. But the poor animals are so weak against new tech it'll be a generic 'Save the animal.' show. 5) The way they described the 'misfits' is so generic. Like a generic teen movie. 6) Why does the poster look exactly like the poster for HTTYD-1, but worse CGI? A fat kid, twins, a Fury-rider and a scary and beautiful dragon that resembles a Nadder? O.K. So, it's like the O.G. group without Snotlout and, this time, they're what? TikTokers? I won't watch it. I also theorize the Fury in the teaser is a pregnant female. It's just so fat compared to the Furies of the OG series. Or... the rebooted Toothless is fatter because they liked it. END It's really difficult to hate the show when you were expecting THAT. So, naturally, I really enjoyed the show & I hope season 2 resolves some of the stuff that got set up. Also, they changed Thunder's design so that his chest is bigger than this belly. Tom & Thunder are the worst duo compared to all the new ones introduced. They had their own bonding moments. Tom & Thunder's one was just a giant callback.

I entirely agree the dragons have changes I would have loved it if dream works made a film in the same universe but on a dragons perspective of a human world that would have bin so much more interesting because dragons are such mastirious creatures and being able to travel along with a dragons perspective would make these incredible creatures even more incredible. And it would give us a vew of something we have never Sean befor. For example like the film spirit was in the horses Experian’s a dragons would give us that same depth in emotion as we did with spirit.

I read something on the wiki about why the dragons are a lot less weary of humans. Back in httyd the dragons would be hunted and and attacked by humans, but since the dragons have been separated from humans for so long, they are less weary of humans

I would believe that except that there are a lot of wild dragons that had not come into contact with humans that were still wary of them. Maybe it's because they were distrustful because they heard of what happened to other dragons, but if these dragons had been separated for thousands of years from humans, even if they trust them, how do they perfectly understand them?

Pfff, what the heck is that Fault Ripper? The franchise already figured out how to make a believable living drill dragon with the Whispering Death: Small wings, a sturdy hide and a maw that could very reasonably tear through solid rock. So why did they choose to make something so hilarious physically inept as this monstrosity? The Fault Ripper not only has next to no room to pull off its drilling windup maneuver inside of normal caves, its wings would easily get damaged by this stunt and there is ansolutely no way it can carry enough momentum to burrow through dozens, if not hundreds of meters of solid rock. More than likely, it would hopelessly get itself stuck somewhere long before it would be able to grow to a size this big.

I'd love to see some dragon like the skrill species, we've seen like only one specimen in the series (as far as I can remember)

Just proof that the Jimmy Neutron is the pinnacle of movie to tv transition. They actually made all the stuff while they had access to the movie level so they could save it and use it for later when it came to the show. Which is why it looks *dynamite.* Everyone is so expressive and moves right. They don't even rely on that make the background and non speaking characters blurry as hell so the audience doesn't notice that aren't moving aside from blinking.

I'll admit, though - the designs for some of these dragons are cool. Feathers and the weird beetle thing are really unique. But I think I've seen all I need to not care about it much more than that.

I completly agree with you about how the opening ruined the suprice over what dragon they would be with them. I also think that they got to know there dragons way to easy compared to the original shows and movie. (with the earthquake's I thought it was a Silent Death dragon), but nope it was a all new drilling dragon who where blind and who I think looked cool, but at the same time I think it would been cooler to have seen the Silent Death. I agree that it really have lost the charm/magic the original had, also I though that the girl in glasses had a crush on Tom and that was why she so easily opend up to him. But so far the name of the show do not make sence since we only saw one place, think the name Dragons Rift outlook or somthing would been better since there is nothing about diffrent realms.

what I was wondering is how come the fault ripper is blind but the other dragons who also live underground and in caves can see just fine? like I know Thunder is sensitive to light but he and his friends seem to see just fine, like I know there is light in the hidden world it just seems weird that only dragon the burrows can't see, also that scene where Tom's mom and D'Angelo's dad where in that ball thing I though Ripper was gonna dump into it

Thank you for saving me from this pain. I will now avoid this giant turd they call 'entertainment', for the sake of not ruining HTTYD for me.

One thing that really doesn’t make sense is the dragons being ok with humans in the hidden world like remember when Astrid and hiccup went to the hidden world and they were chased by dragons that probably never seen humans before while these dragons just like they have seen humans and humans are our friends like no the dragons don’t act like animals they are humans souls in these dragons

Is it just me who noticed the weird pause in between each character talking it feels so unnatural. And the fact that the only way for thunder to have both black and white(Considering this was supposed to take place 1,300 years or more in the future) would inevitably have to come from inbreeding or incest

What bugs me is why the hidden world is under a cave? I thought it was a hole in the middle of the ocean (or the end of the world as the movie describes it) .

Most reptiles have sexual dimorphisum which behavoir and size can be effected including color ,patterns, or horns/crests (like Jackson chameleons and veiled)

5:45, My favorite scene in HTTYD 3 was when Astrid and Hiccup discovered the Hidden World, and the only one. I mean common! That scene look MAGICAL! Possibly too pretty to exist on Earth, something that pretty would exist in a fantasy world. To bad School of Dragon didn't have the hidden world like that... Which is why I got bored of the game.

It certainly has potential, just needs to fix a few things 1. Too fast paced. Hiccup only bonded with Toothless after days of seeing each other and yet his descendant can bond with Thunder in like 5 minutes? 2. The trope of "Mother about to learn the truth from son but gets pulled away just before he could tell her" got old after the first 3 times. I'm sure there are others that I forgot to list here, but you get the idea.

I think modern day dragon movies could be cool if the characters and world acted somewhat normal unlike this show, but a part of why dragons are so cool is because they are imposing and powerful so if a dragon movie or show takes place In modern day it should take middles to incurs major injury. I mean just imagine a large and powerful dragon taking 5 rocket launchers to the chest and the raising it’s head out of the smoke with no injuries

This show looks atrocious and the biggest insult to the HTTYD franchise. Why modernise it? Have none of the original characters return and there's no need for this show exist The Hidden World was the flawless ending to the franchise. DreamWorks just can't let their franchises end on a pefect note they have to milk them dry!

It would have been great if this was the last episode because the kids got devowered and ripped apart by dragons on screen.

I loved the first movie and the Netflix series that are set before HTTYD 2. That movie was OK-ish; I didn't like the way they handled Valka, and I seriously hated the death of Stoick. Everything after I have missed. Purposefully. And after watching your video I've concluded I can continue missing it.

I think fishlegs found out meatlug was a girl in the first Christmas special when they found her eggs.

The new Hidden World looks so goddamn ugly it's just a bunch of crystals now, and most of them only have a single shade of grey like what the hell in the original movie it had all sorts of glowing flora, different crystals, it was more vibrant and majestic. this new one feels too bland.

In the 3rd movie, I didn't like pretty much everything about the light fury. _However,_ I really liked how she wasn't "tamed" by anyone. Not even Hiccup. It was such a cool flip from the entire movie series. Even the super shy dragons or super shy humans were able to warm up to humans or dragons. But the light fury never did. It would've been _so cool_ to see something like that here. Instead of, say, the "scared of heights" guy getting "cured" by flying a dragon, he could stay scared of heights. He would be firmly on the ground. This could create conflict with his dragon buddy, Plowhorn, who likes flying. It would also create conflict with the others who like flying. There was an episode of I think it was the first series of shows between HTTYD 1 and 2 where Tuffnut and Ruffnut get into a fight about sharing everything and confuse Barf and Belch, the two-headed dragon that they share. That was a very interesting conflict, especially since Barf and Belch liked Tuffnut and Ruffnut but couldn't help because they're literally the same dragon. So, Ploworn might want to help the dude get over his fear of heights but might not know how considering she's a winged being. So it could be a handicap most of the series, or it could be "settled" over a few episodes where he is still very afraid of heights, but trusts Plohown enough to ride her. He won't ride any other dragon nor a plane or helicopter because he _trusts_ Plowhorn. He's still terrified of heights, but he's not scared of her. Even if Thunder is a trustworthy dragon and a good flier, they don't develop the same bond/trust between each other. (Which, developing said bond is another issue altogether). This also sets up how fear doesn't make sense, sometimes. After all, why is he afraid of riding Thunder but not Plowhorn? If this becomes a problem, later on in the series maybe Plowhorn is grounded or out of his reach and he needs to fly somewhere to help her. He would still be afraid, but he would be braving his fears for her. But, again, it would need to make sense and not be rushed.

To any and all who were unfortunate enough to watch this "series" I say, "Read the Books Series instead, IT'S A WAY BETTER SERIES THAN THIS STEAMING PILE OF CORPORATE DRAGON $#!%."

Sad to see this wonderfull story becoming just another cash grab. Had no real hope for this show to begin with, to be honest.

I remember commenting 2 years ago on one of your videos how they should do one about the new generation and what I meant by that was hiccups and Astrids kids. Then some guy replied with "They should set it in modern times". Oh how bad my comment aged.

*Sigh* The worst par tabout this series is that since they already published the first season with this artstyle and lazyness, the next one *has* to be the same. So they *have* to keep making the same shit happen if there are any other seasons. At that point, I would be happier if they just deleted it, and completely re-did it. To me as in right now after watching the first season the series is like a big beautifully colored cake that they are trying to sell to you, only that when you take a bite out of it you realize that the cake doesn't really have any flavor.

I was chased by a dog when I was 4, I developed a fear of dogs after that, it took me 11 years after to actually get my first dog. It does take time.

The reason it worked better in Viking times than in modern time to me was because the Vikings as a whole were more unforgiving and you see that hiccup is the runt of his litter he is not built to be a Viking, in the move we see him trying to be someone he’s not, then through bonding with toothless which took time for him to earn the dragon’s trust he discovered who he was. Opposed to this as a whole the modern world are more accepting there is a place for the geeks who are smart and the brawn who work with muscles so there was no discovery the characters of nine realms barely change there is no development. My point shows the the feeding scene between Tom and thunder where he is just not eating because he doesn’t like fish, compered to the original hiccup is forced to eat a raw fish that was already swallowed by a dragon and covered in its saliva it shows has the creatures are different making the bond special, opposed to nine realms where a kid is bellyaching because he doesn’t like fish nuggets.

I wish there were a machine that could take our dreams and thoughts and record them. Then we could download them and use them. I've had so many dreams and ideas for awesome scenes and concepts for games and movies, but I dont have any skill in animation or digital design. I can draw, but that doesn't really do much. Its frustrating knowing that the ideas are there, but they'll probably never come into existence the way that I want them to. And I know others can relate...but yeah this series was doodoobutter, and a disgrace to the franchise. As far as I'm concerned this is something else entirely. Kinda like the live-action rendition of Mulan.

I kinda liked the show but some parts felt weird like off like Idk how to explain it but if they do make a second season they better up their game but over all I loved the dragons especially the fault ripper

Totally agree. It's ok if they are targeting the young audience but I hate when they don't take into account the grown-up fans.
