Kind of a nice touch at the end by the director, to have these Westerners showing real human emotion with some tears at the end of the song. Up until this point in the movie they'd made them out to be fairly disciplined, total soldiers. But here they show them to be men who show for the first time their love of home and how much they miss it.

Soldiers are often portrayed as fighting machines, but in real life they are also human beings made of flesh and blood and a soul with feelings and emotions. That is exactly what makes a film identical.

Soldiers are human beings to. No matter how much training and discipline you have, you still have emotions. I am always rigid, and rarely i cry, but if i am in foreign land far far from my home, and chances that i will ever return to my home are almost none, hearing song from my home, song that gave hope and in the same time is emotial, i would to cry. You are human as such you are free to show your emotions. You are not like those point ear bstards (khm vulcans). If you get urge to cry, if you have feel that you must, let it go, better let it go out then keep it in. There are humans who are emotionless, who could do terrible things without sheading a tear, those are not humans, those are machines in human bodies. But for most of us, sometimes crying is normal.

It's interesting when you consider that a common theme in much of Greco-Roman literature was either a band of soldiers simply trying to get back home or exiles and refugees trying to find a new home. The idea of a "home" is a really big theme in Classical literature.

Both are inaccurate and anachronistic as hell, in that there was no such thing as national anthems in ancient times (no one would be standing at attention with hands over their hearts for a song), and the movie in general is beyond historically inaccurate, down to the very fine details of what people are wearing let alone the absurd notion that the Romans could have conquered Central Asia all the way to the Tarim Basin.

That legacy stretches even to the farthest corners of the Earth - Did the Romans ever think that their language would be spoken, changed only by the passage of time, across the American continent from the Rio Grande River to the Tierra del Fuego? The World is yet Roman - The Christian Church is yet Roman, with it's Cathedrals, Curias, Basilicas and Diocese. That weight and time of history is shared by all Good men who's blood and tongues mingled with the greatest Empire of Western Civilization. It is difficult to explain - Something only felt in the heart. Bless you.

The world wars, with germany as it's enemy, was the closest the US ever fought what you could call an equal enemy. And still the US never fought them alone. I was playing Civilizations 5 as Augustus Cesar of Rome. I was trying to build cities in a straight line along nice resources which one ended on a river bed. When I was about to get a settler to the river, Birschmarck of Germany suddenly taken the spot before me. I had to build a siege army to take it as the area held valuable resources for Rome. I built up some Legions, Bowmen and Ballistas. Constructed forts around Birshmark's city. I placed my units around strategically. I was so focused in taking that city, I didnt noticed that a neighbor empire China had snuck up on me with a large army, with my capital undefended. I knew immediately that I had to retreat because it was a large army. It was a grim moment when you think of it. Rome is being surrounded by China, my retreating army is being bombarded by Germany. I thought it was over. Then I remembered this song and this movie. I started to sing it while playing. My army was moving slowly because of the rough terrain. Rome had already fallen to China. But I didnt gave up. I marched my remaining forces of 2 Bowmen, 2 Legionaires, 2 Ballistas and 2 Great Generals. It was a hard fight. I lost some units. But I was able to turn it around by constructing a Citadel with my 1 General. I was trying to siege the city. But my other Ballista was destroyed by bombardment. One of my Legionaires was killed after my attempt to clear the surrounding guards. At last, one of my cities finished producing another Ballista. I took it to the battle, and lay one more siege to the city's defenders. Finally! Rome was recaptured! After all the hardship. For the glory of Rome!

The legions were set up specifically for that purpose. You trained, fought, worked, slept, and ate all as a small unit and the idea was to build bonds so strong that the unit fights as one. The roman war machine had rather simple weapons and tactics compared to most army's but the brilliant way they utilized them and the multitalented men making up the unit made the difference

Mmm, actually, there's a lot of Chinese propaganda too. The 'Silk Road Protection' part alludes to China's 'Belt and Road' plan. In the movie this force supposedly protects all supposed users from 36 supposed nations that it passes through. I doubt this is historically accurate. There's also a dialogue between the Chinese Silk Road Protection leader and the Roman leader where the Chinese guy says 'China just wants to save people'. Again, suggesting China will be a benevolent protector for all nations part of it's 'belt and road' plan. There's probably more, but that's what I noticed on the first view of the movie.

Que increíble canción, ¡definitivamente una obra de arte! Siento que esta película supo capturar la tristeza, dolor, lealtad y fuerza que provoca el patriotismo mucho mejor que las demás cintas.

The first stanza is beautiful, correct Latin, and I can clearly understand it by ear: *Firmē nunc mē spondeō:* _Firmly now I pledge myself:_ *Fidēlis tibī maneō,* _I remain faithful to thee,_ *Bella priōrum cāra patria* _Beautiful, beloved motherland of (our) predecessors,_ *Nunc et semper flōrēns glōriā.* _Now and ever flourishing in glory._ The rest is more difficult to listen, and every single purpoted transcription of it I've seen so far is gibberish, and it does really seems like the original text might not be actual good Latin at all. I'll try and give it a proper transcription down below, and check whether the text makes sense at all. Inverted question mark (¿) means audio is unclear or mispronounced and I'm guessing from context (work in progress): *Pulchrās terrae¿ faciēs¿,* _To the beautiful faces of the land_ *(Fortēs terrae¿ prō hominēs* _(Lands for the hardy people_ *Rōmae nostrae¿ aeternae)* _Of our aeternal Rome),_ *Vīsne¿ abīre¿ domum navium?* _Dostn't thou wish to go there, to the home of the ships?_ *Frūstrā¿ īnstant impetum* _Vainly they keep the attack_ *Sunt sine spē.* _They are without hope._ (...) I can't figure out the rest now; I need to leave now and come back later. The first stanza is beautiful, correct Latin, and I can clearly understand it by ear: **Firmē nunc mē spondeō:** _Firmly now I pledge myself:_ **Fidēlis tibī maneō,** _I remain faithful to thee,_ **Bella priōrum cāra patria** _Beautiful, beloved fatherland of (our) predecessors,_ **Nunc et semper flōrēns glōriā.** _Now and ever flourishing in glory._ The rest is more difficult to listen, and every single purpoted transcription of it I've seen so far is gibberish, and it does really seems like the original text might not be actual good Latin at all. Firme nunc me spondeo, Fidelis tibi maneo, Bella priorum cara patria, Nunc et semper florens gloria, Pulchras terrae patriae! Fortes terrae pro homines, Romae noster aeterne, Vis cavire domum navium, Frusta ipsa impetur, Sunt sine spe! Domus dulces portula, Fraudi ob sat, Tubae militaris vox, Legiones procat mox! Et in tota patria, Cantus victoriae resonat, Et in tota patria, Cantus nostrae resonat, Tempus est in gaudium, Superbiae Roma aeterna...

@@xxyyxxyyxxyyxxyyxxyy That text is *not* good Latin, and visibly incorrect. All the cases are wrong. Gender agreement is wrong. The word 'cavīre' does not exist ('vīsne abīre' seems the correct transcription). 'Impetur' does not exist. 'Ob sat' is gibberish (probably 'obstat'). The lyrics you propose also don't really mean anything; the translations people give for it are fake.
