The mere actions of hitching and of unhitching are an art unto themselves. Done wrong, someone gets trampled. The key in this sort of driving is to get the leaders going where you want them and the other pairs not turning to follow, but instead holding straight (or even heading toward the opposite direction) until they are far enough along that you won't "cut corners." The dropped line didn't help!

YOU try holding a camera pointing backwards in an emotional situation, all while trying to steady a team of horses that wants to move forward... good luck with that! On top of that, there's no springs on those wagons - they're jarring even when you're moving along at a calm walk.

Richard Rudolph thank you , it's pretty awesome what he can do with horse and wagon !!
I can't even imagine p and crap like that happening! Hell I had a hard enough time with a single, driving in downtown Dever!! (Worst job I ever had with horses...ethical fucking nightmare) Hank is damned good at what he does!!
Great thinking and work!
There is not a lot of people that can handle a six up. Most of those came out of the picture barns and have long passed. 8 ups were used mostly as freight wagons on the flat . If it had been a 6 up he would have made it on the first swing. If it had been me I would have ha to move the lead back a couple. That man showed a lot of skill, doesn't men I' am gonna loan him my truck ! If you had to, you did good .

A. Maz. Ing! Wow! Awesome handling that team!
Good job, Teamster!
Very good handling.
The background is so beautiful too I love those rolling hills
Wow! Outstanding and then some!
Hank was not the driver but the man in back Nolan was driving,
She'll be coming around the mountain when she comes😂
Love the clydstales always bobing heads
Wow great job
wouldn't hurt to go back to simple life sometimes every now and then maybe appreciate what you have or had

Cool video
Davy- where is this? Looks like an area I know in Tehama County
Beautiful work, team! Show that driver how to make a tight turn!
Beautiful country , the oaks are just fabulous
Sure is beautiful landscape.
LOL where there's a will there's a way. Looks like a really skittish leader pair..swing teams look a lot more mellow..I'd try one of them up front..
Nice save..there is a major pucker factor. Maybe put rider horse by the right lead horse
I am really impressed with his driving ability and his being calm under pressure. What doesn’t impress me is the handling of the camera and the language the men around it are using. Their graphic conduct is not good.
Good 'ol Hank.
Thanks for the footage, but the camera was so shaky. Were you on a horse yourself. Thanks for posting this. I'm fascinated by heavy horses.

Horse power, baby!!!
Good job.
That's a beautiful team and deserves a better teamster...it was really hard to watch this
This why I always sat at the back step . Easier to jump off. Lol
Never have driven more than two. No thanks to more. On uneven ground in a light wagon. Sheesh.
I love the land it reminds me of Andalusia spain

It looks like California in the Spring to me
That was scary and awsome
would it have possible to unhitch the front 4 and take them around the bend the use the other four to pull the wagon around and hitch them all back together?
@Saartje05

+roy hoco Yes, but you have to take the lines out too.

roy.....if you need to remove 4 so the other 4 can get your wagon around a bend, you should only be driving 4 to begin with then!

OH SHIT!! This is drama! Great job, Hank. Are they training or practicing for an event?

It was our yearly club outing .
AMAZING!
Unhitch two horses and make the turn with six or just avoid hairpin turns altogether, the horses will thank you!
Why they use 8 draft horses for one wagon? Is the guy on the wagon that heavy?
Get outta there Hank😁
Should of had them in control before they went into the turn drove horses many years and never done that always think ahead
Can anyone tell me where this video was taken? The land is beautiful

were you driving another team?
good idea to go up and come back down
folks, if you want to take video, stabilize yourself and take the video....its very difficult to watch when the camera is going every which way....stop, sit, and hold still

It was a spur of the moment thing . I put down my camera and just happen to start videoing with my phone . It wasn't a planned event !
GOD WHAT A HOLLICKS OF A JOB.
Damn son
Great team, serious pilot error on first attempt on the turn.
We didn't need all the extra cameraman commentsry!!!:@$$hats!!!
brave calm horses
Only part done right was the teamster keeping them horses from turning back around DOWN that hill!!!!! Maybe should practice with 4 up some more before you tackle 8 on this kind of road :/
A short cut only known by the draft horses?
Fast thinking!!!!!
Have they got brakes on the wagon?
@davycricket3016

Yes , but they'd never stop the horses. They are mainly use for down hill travel to keep some of the weight off the horses .

davycricket3016 That’s why I’ve asked. 4:59 I thought on a steep downhill like that it is handy to have one.

they should not choose a difficould way like this with so many horses on the wagen.
they just got confused

Can you not tell he's in a wagon himself, and his horses are trying to move? He already said his team was trying to catch up to the other wagons ahead of him. YOU try holding a camera pointing backwards in an emotional situation, all while trying to steady a team of horses that wants to move forward... good luck with that! On top of that, there's no springs on those wagons - they're jarring even when you're moving along at a calm walk.
Hes lucky it wasnt worse handeled it calmly but very confusing
Same way i think...
Wrong title...well behaved and working together should have been title
😲😲😲😲😲😲😲
Overkill that wagon could easily be drawn by two draft horses
Give me 40 acres …. and I’ll turn this rig around. 🥺🥺🥺
CDL .A..
stop already with the "whoa"
Why are they even trying this?
The idiot who kept saying woah, woah, woah, should not be allowed around the camers. Very annoying! These horses could have been badly injured because of the driver's incompetence.

Guess you don't realize he's talking to his own team of horses pulling, telling them to whoa
the speaker has some foul language! Those look like live oaks to me...
