Earlier this year, I decided to add a smaller, lighter, simpler bike to the stable. (Current go-to dual sport bike is a '12 Yamaha WR250R. Great bike. Very capable. WAY tall wit a 36+" seat height, and too top heavy at 300 lbs.) I wanted something more like what I used to ride back when bikes weren't so tall for use in trail explorations and tight/technical piddle riding. Began looking. Among the choices was the DR200S. It came down to deciding between two bikes: A DR200S or a Yamaha XT225. The XT won out on account of lighter (238 lbs), a bit more oomph off the bottom, and a lower seat height at 32". I also liked the grab handles at the rear, both sides. I've been pleased with my choice, and as an added bonus, my wife has returned to dual sport riding via the XT. That all said, because of my research, my respect for the DR200S remains and I enjoy viewing videos about them. Enjoyed your thoughts on the DR200s!

Thanks! You'll find the 200 much lighter handling on the trail and the stock pegs are better. I'd recommend it as a backup/trailer hitch bike for a dr650 owner. That said, the torque of the 650 will probably have you picking it most days. They are very similar bikes for most purposes. Yes, the 85 lb difference is noticeable... it's just that the extra 450 cc makes up for it (right up until you hit singletrack)

I have a DR650 that I bought new back in '16. Great bike, lots of fun and definitely plenty of power. But it's just so heavy and feels like a street bike to me. I also have a Honda XR250R which is a superb dirt bike, but it's not street legal, plus, it's super tall and kick start only.. So, I'm seriously thinking about buying a DR200! It looks like a really great dual sport to me, and small enough and light enough to ride on trails.
