    Very nice trick. At first I thought it was a multiple out trick. The reason for this is because most people know the winning strategy for Tic tac toe (start in the corner, and if your opponent doesn't play in the middle, you win. If they play in the middle, you draw). Even if you don't use this strategy, like Teller because he started in the middle, the game will also always end in a draw unless someone makes a big mistake. This is not going to happen with two adults who pay attention. So dr. Kruti Parekh can assume the game ends in a draw. In that case I though, as long as the players end in a draw, the board can always be rotated, mirrored and/or X/O inverted to end up in the 'predicted' situation. But this is not true. There are at least 2 distinct board outcomes, that are not mirrors, rotations or color-inverse of each other. And even if it was, I think the trick doesn't work if the magician has to rotate, mirror AND inverse the colors to get to the same result, it's too many steps. There seems to be no sleights, and the 'background' doesn't seem to be a useful force. Long story short, also fooled me. If you made it this far, thanks for reading.

On each box on that board she already has two facedown cards, one has an X, the other one has an O, the back of those cards are black so they mimic with the table and it looks like there's nothing there. Now, let's say she has first an X on each box and on top of at an O on each box, then on top of that she places the cards Alyson choose (which by the way don't have anything printed or drawn on their faces); so, if she needs and O on a certain box, she does a double lift (the faceless card plus the one on bottom that has the X on its face), if she instead needs an O she does a triple lift, the faceless card, the X card and the O card that is on bottom. Not quite. There is a distinct path to a draw in which X starts in a corner and O takes the middle. So she couldn't have depended solely on symmetry of drawn games; she must have been prepared to manipulate at least two cards as she flipped them.

  • @yusufh7278

    @yusufh7278

    @kclubok imo it all hinges on X taking center, if so unless because 99% of the time X will it then the pattern would be the same again and again unless someone purposefully loses. If X doesn't take center then her trick will fail. As for placing the markers she could just place down what she wants to place down until she gets that draw board state.

    She swapped the deck after shuffling. Now she has a deck of cards with an x. Each square on the board has a card facing down with a o. She then placed a card on each so now each square has 2 cards x and o. Now it's a case of turning over two cards or one in each square depending on what Penn and Teller wrote. You can see her struggle to turn the cards. Simples.

    Trick depends on the two players being reasonably intelligent. There's only 1 real possible way to get an honest tie. And it comes to the same pattern, just oriented differently. Cards start with X's on top and O's on bottom (or vice versa) she never shuffles and bottom/top deals wherever she needs the X's or O's to be. Then makes up an excuse to turn the board to match P&T's game.

    no, that is not correct. The cards she places have no printed face. The faces we see belong to other cards that where the whole time on the table (those cards have black backs), she either does a double lift or a triple lift depending on if she needs and X or an O.

    It’s a 50/50 chance of winning, once the game is learned no one wins, it almost always comes out to a tie. All the doctor had to do was make a educated guess of where the first placement of the “X” was going to be, based on her knowledge of Penn, and the rest is history. In other words “time travel”

    @@monodescarado I hear ya on that, there’s only so many patterns that the x and o can be in, so she knew if she made a mistake, she can just turn the playing board around to best represent the outcome.

    @@heartofthunder1440 This is also incorrect because it can’t be determined which symbol will be in the centre. The trick is either sleight of hand (which I didn’t see), or the cards/board are gimmicked.

    @@officialkrutiparekh It was not a political statement, it is a statement of fact. In the US alone, according to NBC news, American citizens (mostly the elderly) lost more than 20 BILLION dollars last year to phone scammers alone. Of them, 97% were from India. Here in Canada and throughout Europe the numbers are similar. And this is an annual number and has increased every single year, for the last several years. Perhaps, instead of turning a blind eye to this horrible behavior that ruins the lives of innocent human beings, people need to speak out against this and raise awareness.

    You don't say "oh that's amazingggg" to your steps sooooo frequently as an illusionist.. yes it could work if someone is projecting a character that is silly/comical.. with serious style the presentation became awkward and cringe. Plus it's not polite to send Alison all the way to P&T to bring the board or anything for that matter. It was rude. You should have gone to them yourself to bring it. Anyway, I hope you'll improve on those points in future.

    She’s kinda gambling. Ppl will most certainly place the x in the middle because it gives the highest chance of winning. After that, the final result will always be a tie for two players who wish to win, and the shape of the board will be identical with rotations.
