Sean Paul and Juliana Fay doing what they do best -- weaving a story that ties first class illusions together for a very satisfying conclusion. Well done, indeed!

What a fantastic routine!! So well presented and super entertaining.
magic comedy is so hard to do. I loved to see the smiles on the faces of Penn & Teller.
I really love an act that has a great story to tie all the illusions together. Great job!
Easily one of my favorite performances. You guys make it so much fun!

you never see piff the magic dragon
SPOILER ALERT, if you don't want to know how this trick is done (or at least, how I think it is done) stop reading now... Lets go in order as there where several and different effects on this act. 1.- Alison's selection, that is the most simple part, the notebook she is handled is a Svengali notebook which means that is designed in a special way so that it doesn't matter how many pages does she riple through, she will always see the exact same phrase. (I will not explain here how a Svengali notebook works but you can look for that on google or even here on youtube) 2.- Teller's selection, there are special pens that can be bought either on magic shops and on spy shops that have hidden cameras or electronic devices that let you know what has been written, that is how they know the 2 digits Teller wrote for the date and to make it easier they made it so Teller only has to think of two numbers instead of four. 3.- Penn's selection, well this couldn't be even simple, they have some people working with them, somebody behind scenes can see Penn's selection and relay that on them 4.- The shaking table, well, the table is quite light and is hollow, it has a motor inside which when remotely triggered makes it vibrate and as a result some of the stuff on top of the table fall to the groud. 5.- Julia's levitation, clearly they are using some kind of device like "A special head" used, basically the have a support fixed on the chair and a base where she will sit to make it look like she is levitating. That base is hidden within her clothes. 6.- The burnt and restored note with Alisons selected phrase. That is just a simple switch, Sean Paul does actually have that crumpled piece of fabric (or paper) which the phrase printed on (as I explained, that phrase was forced by using a Svengali notebook) so he just had to keep it hidden on one of his hands and pretend to restor the burnt piece of paper (or fabric), and just opens the previously hidden piece of fabric with the phrase "Good Night" 7.- The turning candle, you can clearly see Juliana pressing a button on the base, what I think it happens is that the candle is actually a light cylinder of some kind of plastic with a tiny servo motor inside, right on the middle and there is a transparent thin rod where it is fixed to the base, when Juliana presses the button, a mechanism inside the base pushes the rod up a little and also activates the motor that is on the middle of the cylinder to make it do a 180 and then it lowers the rod back to the original position. I think I covered every stage of the act, if I missed anything please let me know and I will explain which ever part I missed.

They blew all the budget for props for this show. However I think Alyson might have a free choice because she uses the same gimmick pen that Teller uses. It's weird how Teller already has a pen but the magician makes him use his own pen and notebook. Also another weird thing is that the magician needs to write something before the victim does. Like he had to make an X before handing the pen and pocket notebook to Alyson (where else was she supposed to write) or writing 18 before handing it to Teller (again why do that). I think that pen has some standby feature and might not record the first pen moves well. Penn's selection can also be done by marking the back of the cards with invisible ink and using special contact lenses. Juliana clearly looked at the back of that card. Supposing the helper doesn't have access to the live video feed.
One of my favorite routines that have been on Penn and Teller's show.
I loved this routine, and the message Sean gave at the end of it.
Please adjust the Audio level before posting!
Excellent routine on encompassing the "paranormal". Juliana is beautiful and Sean-Paul is masterful in the approach and storytelling. Great job!
They didn't fool me neither. I knew there was some sort of trickery involved in them "magic" tricks.
Such a good trick and its a beautiful performance
This was a beautiful performance. Absolutely beautiful, thank you for sharing. As Penn might say: Juliana, you are an incredibly strong woman at your core. ;>
Awesome performance by Sean and Juliana.. Really felt the magic just like when I was a kid.. I truly wish you a bright future in magic.. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This was fantastic! I love this theme of magic. So fun.
What a beautiful routine! The perfect mix of wonder and playfulness. Fooled me! :-)
So good!
I want more of them!
Funny that what was most interesting to me was the levitation. Secretly hooking up then released by the locking mechanism is always the HARD part of this type of trick. I have not seen this particular version before and I would have difficulty engineering the exact details of the device myself.

I think I might have figured this one out, and it lines up with what Penn said. Also, when Penn gushes with praise, you know it means they weren't fooled. I recall one show in which he called a Fooler a "rat bastard"
Couldn't help noticing the ping when you adjusted the volume at the start. Don't you just hate it when that happens? haha. Thanks for the video.

To be fair I’m not aware of exact titles of tricks like whatever they’re referring to with “red ashes”, but I caught these: “and really CONCEALED” I assumed there was some device hidden within each of the ‘murder weapon’ bags that when moved (or lifted to show the audience) they would get a buzz in a pocket or something “COMMUNICATE with one another” any info the guy gets, he can communicate to the girl via Morse or whatever with similar buzzes “but we got the IMPRESSION” they take the pad of paper back from Allison and Teller after they write on it, and the impression on the special pad reveals what was written on the page “SELECTION of Allison” the book given to Allison was a forced-choice. Whatever she selected would have been Good Night.
I predicted the rings and the year.
The history is well known about Houdini. I don't get this trick at all. Why did the girl not float away from the seat? The man took the candle off the girl, after the candle spun, and twisted a locking device.
good act
How in the world did that candle flip @ 7:49?
@krumplethemal8831

Back thin rod behind the back side a way from view. It holds the candle in the middle. The pivot attachment point is under strain and wants to unwind but locked in place until released by a button.
One thing I find to be ridiculous about this performance would be this: how can someone be murdered with linking rings of all things?

I’m pretty sure the book Allison flipped through has paper the reacts with the oil on fingerprints… When she touches that paper with her fingers, it leaves a slight Mark giving them an indication of what the word was when they flip through it
Maybe come up with a new hand gesture @5:32? I'm sure it's unintentional, but it's not a great visual

hahahahaha
This just didn’t do it for me. Didn’t feel like magic, rather a mystic play of some sort. Clue came to mind
4:56 - I am gonna go out on a limb, right now, and make a guess. That pad that he has them write down their answers on, with that pen, creates some "bleed through" onto the page below, which they can activate, like with disappearing ink, with lemon juice or something.
@brentu777
Жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing… Or a paper that leaves a mark when a fingerprint touches it… Like the oil on the finger leaves a slight color difference, where they touch it… Showing them which word she picked when they flip through it
Lot of talking but kept it essential to the trick .
Hlla KZread video of a KZread video, interesting
Awful audio
👏👍
Sometimes I think it's more about exposure then fooling Penn and Teller. The dairy can easily be done, you see this all the time even with playing cards. The date could be figured out probably by the note pad. Perhaps it scribes the numbers on to another part similar to how check books work, but that also can be an easy way for them to fail if Teller notice it while writing a date. More then anything, I think it does with what she is doing or rather not doing. As Penn picks a weapon, enough time for him to get the date, and then some how tell her the number as he walks back up on the stage (notice the way he hold his right hand, might be nothing or slight of hand). They don't show what happens to the note pad, but he holds his right hand over his pants pocket for a short while as he only needs to know 2 numbers, he could be doing something there in terms on finding the number or sending her information. The date is the only thing they can't full control. Murder Weapon when Penn holds it up and shows the audience she could briefly look at it before closing her eyes. I would say there is a way for her to tell which weapon was chosen, but either by camera angle or something else it's not easily notice unless your trained to look for it. Of course the gimmicks in the chair and her body strength for the levitation. Could be wrong on half of it, but compared to some tricks, while funny and entertaining, it doesn't look like the most complex trick. Obviously I'm not a magician and only can guess as to how it works.

Actually you aren't far off. Holding up the murder weapon, simple light and shadow gives a way it's shape. Easy. The pad is a bleed pad. You write on the page before it and about 10 to 15 seconds after (to hide it from being a bleed pad) it materializes the copy under as it was written. A quick glance and you have the year. The book part is so simple it's almost insulting to bring it on the show. Cooked book of words. The chosen word is known before Allison even selects one.
This is an act done at children's party's...

@@jimmckay2337 so if choose a page, see the words, "accidentally" lose the page and then choose the first page the trick would already be exposed since on the back sides it's always the same word? @@nononodog5431 I encountered the same issue. To avoid that, I place the word in the middle of the page or slightly above. This prevents the spectator from 'leafing through' the pages catching a glimpse of the word. When he asks to write a date in the eighteen hundreds and then starts with 18, Penns looks so disappointed. He even corrects them afterwards about a story in the nineteen hundreds. Otherwise this trick could have come directly from a Disney Haunted House: too clean (presentation), no soul, bad timing (of words) and the tricks with levitation and the candle were quite silly. But that's only my opinion, many love these kind if tricks
