Downhill Bike Or Enduro Bike | Which Is Better?
Спорт
Can enduro bikes handle everything that downhill bikes can? Which bike performs better in a bike park? Do the advantages when descending on a downhill bike outweigh the disadvantages when going uphill? Neil and Blake took a couple of bikes each to Whistler Bike Park to find out 🤘

If you can afford only one bike than the enduro is the obvious choice because it's so versatile and you can do literally everything. However for the park I prefer my dh bike, just makes way more fun and gives me more security.

Or have two wheel sets even if you have a more heavy bike even tho climbing would not be ideal with a 16kg bike have a single speed setup for pure downhill use and geared for going to work use but it would mean taking the derailleur off when you want to downhill maybe that's where the wireless derailleur is useful no wires just set I up for typical cross country and have another a wheel set for single speed may mean swapping to a smaller chain link system for it if you plan to take the bike out downhill set It up for it

@@erpol9258 I agree with him, Enduro bikes are relatively heavier and have too much travel, and no remote suspension lockout usually. Sometimes you want to do climbs and ride on smoother terrain, and having 160-170mm suspension for such rides might not be optimal. I'd say XC for sure, and maybe also trail bikes are better all-around bikes.

Nice riding Blake and Neil Great stuff #GMBN
The comments at the end nailed it. It's fatiguing to ride those grades, and by day 3...a DH bike is so much nicer. For mere mortals, I also think it helps you gain confidence, because you do have more forgiveness on a DH bike. That confidence translates almost directly to riding an enduro bike, and you feel more comfortable doing bigger features and more difficult tech lines. DH bikes are just impractical. Enduro bikes have gotten so capable, that unless it's park riding exclusively, DH bikes are virtually useless. I don't think our local shops have sold more than 2-3 DH bikes a year here around Bentonville, and those are all for people who are headed out west to ride a few times a year and don't want to rent.
Love the channel

I still love taking the 26" dh bike out still fun to blast on trails.. Enduro i use more 180mm up front 165mm on the rear. Takes the hits well. Lightweight easier to peddle on inclines. Depends more on how i'm feeling when i go for a ride which 1 i take with me

I rode there lots with a Giant Trance that I swapped in a 150mm pike on, worked great. Whistler flow trails are built so well you could prolly use a hard tail and not need much travel. The techy trails are a bit gnarly but can be done with any mid/long travel fully

Yabut we’re talking about maybe 10-20% of the trails are “can be done” and 80-90% are still fun with mid/long travel fully. To spend $4-5 thousand on a one trick pony is dumb unless you’re racing or live there. A good enduro or aggressive trail bike can ride there and pretty much everywhere else in the world as well. Neil’s comment “this was better on the enduro” part way through says that enduros are actually more capable in some parts of the park as well. I’d take his perspective over most
@energ8t

Mr. ZiggedWhenHeShuddaZagged Yeah, I meant if you had to make a decision toward a single bike for Whistler, go DH. I rode a 120 on the flowy stuff last year, but still... You get mad arm pump on brake bumps, tore up tracks and extended long runs especially if you don't have DH worthy brakes. You can really send some gnar with 220 and walk away with a massive grin on day one. To each their own though.

sick!!!
XC bike for the Whistler Win ;) No - just kidding. Good summation of the differences between the two styles of bike. Looking at the Enduro Racing in California this weekend it's punishing but the bikes can take it. One can always add a token to their forks and rear shock and dial in more progression if it's really gnarly.
What should I for my first expensive bike for riding armature trails, downhill or trail?
Neil, how do you like that POC armor kit? Looks like an intriguing option, should we expect a review at some point?

#askgmbn I'm a newbie (but old - 65!) mtb rider. I bought a Specialized Turbo Levo Expert because I don't have the strength to climb the steepest trails near me without the motor assist. Would you put the Expert into the enduro bucket because of its travel (150, I think)? Or would you put it in the downhill bucket because of its geometry and weight?

I'd like to see Blake and Neil ride the Atherton's bike park in Wales.
Finally got a gmbn jersey long sleeve
finally neil gets/rides a dh bike
Depending on the build an enduro can be everything. 170mm front fork even with a 150 rear and a good set of brakes can handle a bike park no problem!
Downhill would obviously be better on downhill trails but the word enduro pretty much means good for everything so uphill, downhill and everyday riding
I already have a trail bike, I want a longer travel bike so I think it would be better to get a downhill since they are cheaper where I live and since I already have a bike that can do all, I would use the downhill for harder trails
i can use my Dartmoor Wish 2015 for both DH and enduro.

I’m sorta torn on what to do, I’ve been riding lightweight XC bikes most of my life with some trail bikes more recently like stumpjumpers at both local trails and downhill at mountains… I’m older now, 39 years old, so with age and the less amount of riding. I don’t do any crazy drops or look for air like I use too. My other concern is the fact I’ve never been on a bike with such aggressive angles though in my prime I was an advanced rider who liked dirt jumpers and hardtail XC bikes for some park fun. I took hardtails and trail bikes downhill often. I recently wanted to hit my local downhill mountains though so not sure what is best option. I’m looking for a bike that requires more planted feel and less need for input like with a light trail bike downhill. But I’m also not going to be looking for crazy air etc. so the question is, what would be best for strait up downhill without the crazy drops. Is a downhill bike even necessary if I’m not looking to hit some kick outs etc? What bike navigates downhill best at moderate speed on Blacks or Blue/black.. like is a downhill even needed for that? Again, with my shoulder injury and age, I want less force on joints and my stump jumper just requires to much input downhill and beats me up when hitting some decent speed..
Downhill is good at riding on rough trails quick, enduro sort of made for lasting long long those long descents
