@@JS67137 well, coming from a dominant socialist mining area of the north of England, I feel your pain. I never had socialist views. But was utterly surrounded by those who did pretty much all my life. The ability to express your views cones more from just living and learning over the years, than from education. Dyed in the wool socialists will NOT change their views readily. They will find ANY WAY to blame the government if its a tory one, and when you point out, during a laboyr one, what's going wrong, they simply blame the previous tory government lol. Socialism is a kind of fanaticism. And you know that you cannot reason with a fanatic. Their position is an emotional one. For me, the best way was always.... I want the opportunity to do as much as I can in this life, dont you? I want to work for the things I would like to have, a secure home, a family, dont you? And lastly, I want the opportunity to create new ideas - maybe for my own business. Wouldn't you like that? What ive just described to you is not possible under socialism. Its a capitalist dream. But I dont want to work my fingers to the bone to feed some greedy beaurocrat who will live in the secure house with their family while I work. That is socialism in reality. The ideal of socialism is actually a good one. Its a kind of utopia where everyone is equal, avoiding any jealousy of our neighbours. Its one where the strong protect the weak, everyone is taken care of. No one is left behind. The reality of socialism is very far from the dream. Socialism makes no calculation for the greedy, the evil, the corrupt, the criminals. Socialism just hopes they'll all become model citizens, but they don't. Wgat usually happens is they get into positions of power, and the rest of us suffer. The rich leave the country, thet can, because they are rich. So no taxes from the rich, so middle earners get hit. They stop spending, they stop going out socially. So the leisure industry takes a hit and lays people off. More unemployed. Then they tax the poorest in society. So thr promise of a living wage fades into the distance, inflation rises,so food becomes unaffordable. Its normally around this time that the people decide they've had enough misery and elect a tory government who lower taxes to bring back the rich. They create jobs. And the cycle is reversed. But socialists will only talk about emotive subjects. Its more about feelings than facts. They feel they are more in control under socialism. Nothing could be further from the truth but they won't believe you. One thing I can assure you of though.... once they OWN something they've had to work hard for years to pay for, they tend to change their view. Thats why there are fewer socialists in older generations. 😊 Hope that helps. .

@davy boy LMAO ... you misinterpreted everything said in that debate ... in point of fact it was the mod Murray who destroyed Harris on this very point about religion and metaphorical truths that are useful ( e.g. religion ) , people's need for them, and their importance. To recap for you, Harris asked this Q, which he shouldn't have because he didn't know the answer in advance ( always a problem in a debate ;0) : "Q to JBP: What evidence to do you have for the claim that religion ( metaphorical truth ) is something humans inherently seek out and require." They had been sparring over this boring basic Q about "what is truth" for some time , making no headway and so a somewhat exasperated mod Murray, sensing a clearly disingenuous Q immediately pipes in with this Q that is delivered in that way witty way only DM can : " well Sam , I see evidence every day when I read the newspaper headlines. Evidence of younger generations , raised with no religious beliefs, adopting a new form of "religion" every day." That was followed by a silence from Harris while he made silent fish out of water gulping for air sounds.... then the crowd applauded. Because it was THE OBVIOUS TRUTH. Everyone in the room knew it, including Harris. In that moment Murray had defended JBPs positoon more clearly and concisely than JBP ever has. Harris lost that debate in that moment where the core weakness of his rational materialist philosophy was exposed , and he knew it.

@davy boy strawman of JBPs position. Try again and a suggestion ( not only for you but all you materialists , who I find collectively on average have a hugely inflated sense of their ntelligence and ability to actually use logic ) ... Try to be more humble, specifically by starting conversations from a mental position that does not assume you know more about everything than the person oposite you. From a position that there might be something to be learned and gleaned from them. You seem to be half admitting that Murray's point in that debate was correct and decisive ? If you can fully admit that ... then perhaps you have started to enter that more humble mental frame of mind ... if not, you will remain misguided until you do. Murray is 10X more impressive than SH BTW. And whike to some extent that's my opinion ... the comments under both their vids , which are largely both a very educated and cerebral audience , would seem to back mybopinion up. DM gets much more widespread and universal plaudits. He's also a far better and more prolific writer So if you are going to cite or quote someone ... lean to the more golden standard.

Not an accident, Not a coincidence. NO single unified white western Christian culture ethnicity country will be permitted to thrive. The only reason for the idea of western countries are based on a single unified culture ethnicity, destroy that with racial cultures balkanizion and the idea of a country is gone. The entire foundation of western civilization is all based on single unified culture ethnicity, VOTING, self governance. This is all destroyed with racial cultures balkanizion of the west. Well, If you lived through the 80ies you still remember the cold war, the horror stories constantly leaking out of east germany and things like that, or how eager the entire eastern half of europe were to rid themselves of communism and embrace democracy in the early 90ies (with varying levels of success). In schools you were still learning about Mao's "great leap forward" (into mass starvation and near economic collapse), and the "cultural revolution" (let's just completely wipe out or own cultural heritage, and then replace it with medical quackery a decade later) or the evils of Stalin. I don't know what happened to the education, but in the later 90ies certainly communism had dissapeared from the radar. It's hard to believe the myth when you live next door to reality and are constantly reminded about it when reading a newspaper. But now when communism, even in so called communist countries, has been dead for decades, it's much easier to buy into utopian myths about it.

People on the stereotypical Left have all the psychological and personality attributes that predispose them to go into media, journalism, i.e. verbal professions. With that comes their social and cultural power. The people of similar profile also care much more about issues related to culture and society. But this period in the history may hopefully be a wake-up call for those who would otherwise never cared about the Woke and would be focusing on business, finance, economics, engineering etc. We all should want that people with more conservative outlook focus on these issues because it would balance the Woke ish, but also the cultural and social development in general as well.

@davy boy If you look at the studies austerity was the main reason to leave the EU. Which had nothing to do with the EU but the sovereign government of the UK. The Tories are in government and imposed austerity. Also I don't get the whole immigration thing. Muslims come from third countries. Every EU country can deal with them as they see fit. So another thing the Tories are to blame for and not the EU at all. Right now, as the UK is de facto still an EU member, it is btw France who keeps aliens to the UK out. This will change with the 1st of January 2021. For every reason to stay a reason to leave? Maybe. But then you need to explain what the benefit of leave will be.

@davy boy Again: If you enter from a country outside of the EU, EVERY country impose their OWN measurements. This has nothing to do with the EU except maybe the fact that as a international community you could protect the shared borders better. It would certainly help more to have an actual EU border in the south and southeast were most migrants come through. Besides that, I just advise caution. Yes, Sweden and also Germany (where I'm from) have problems with legal as well as illegal immigration. But don't believe every shit you read on the internet. 50 no go zones in Sweden? That's another right-wing bubble myth: "Although international media often report that Sweden has so-called "no-go zones", police and emergency services have repeatedly rejected this claim, arguing that the vulnerable areas actually have a higher police presence, if anything." (www.thelocal.se/20190603/sweden-vulnerable-areas-decrease-positive-trends-police). I live in Hamburg right now, I also have to read about No go zones here. Turns out that this is also bonkers. Of course there are zones with problems but not in the grand scale and in a connection with the migrant crisis of 2015 as many filter bubble nonsense in the internet makes it out to be.

Why would you expect them to know who Pol Pot is? He carried out his reign of fear in the 70s after the Americans left Vietnam. It also occurred in South East Asia - very removed from the every day experience of someone from a country in the Americas or Europe. Lots of people do not really understand the role of Hitler and the rise of the Nazis, and that is something that occurred closer to home in Europe and is widely talked about in those regions. All they know is Nazis = bad, Jews = persecuted. I would not be critical of this person not knowing who Pol Pot is, but I would be critical if after you told them about it and the significance of the events around the regime, they did not go and find out more information.

For loot and plunder. Just like all wars in our long, sad history. No more slogans, platitudes, or propaganda. We need to face up to the Truth. We the people did not want to fight in 1914 nor in 1939. We said “Never Again”. Our overlords didn’t care what we said. They sent our ancestors to die anyway. Over 100,000,000 needless dead bodies. mel farrer - it's not just Covid, we have a social epidemic along with the delayed shock of an economic epidemic hitting us just as we go into the worst seasons of the year that will increase feelings of desperation, depression and isolation... This thing isn't linear, it's foreseeable getting worse.

It went wrong when the C.I.A.stopped arming any opposition groups that re-educated by pistol any student with a copy of "Das Kapital" and would have taken that fool Maduro for a walk to a destination unknown and unrecorded for posterity. He may have got a line of T-Shirts like his Argentinian comrade if a famous artist got to him before a Venezuelan patriot made portraiture eh inadvisable.

0 interest rates is the logical financial extension of the no consequences western society we have built for ourselves. If course borrowing money should have a consequence / pain to it, which motivates one to get rid of the pain as quickly as possible and not encounter it again ( by living within means and saving for things first before buying them ). That IS what interest is meant to be, a motivator for good societal behavior and a deterent for bad.

@@nonesuch27 no ... I meant the super low rates at which the banks lend to themselves that allow them to screw the rest of us ;0). If you think those student loan interest rates are high ... you should see the consumer debt credit card rates.... no that usery! Which isnwhy, instead of that everyone gets mortgage lowninterest refi's on their homes and uses them as piggy banks ... that the next closest form of " no consequences" borrowing to the interbank loans.
