Thanks to Joma for letting me pick my own sweeties! These two are just gorgeous. So much interest and utility from the Seiko, and such a stunning looking Orient. It has reconfirmed to me that there are still nuggets out there for me to discover. Cheers, Jody

That particular Orient Star was one I fancied a few year ago. Availability always seemed to be an issue though and I went another direction. Glad to see it get some limelight. Stunning value for money.
Proud owner of that Orient Star watch. It attracts more looks and commentaries than watches that cost three times more.
I have the silver dial of the Seiko Perpetual Chrono - SPC251P1. Came with a bracelet that I swapped for a leather one. Got it for around $170. The silver dial is better at showing off the depth and it also catches light better. Love the Breguet numerals and the leaf hands. It is an impressive watch. A few points - the alarm/24 hour sundial can be used as a GMT dial. Also, the crescent ended side of the Chrono hand is the date indicator. Pressing the Chrono button will take you to the month and then a second press to year and another to go back to date. The pointed end is used in Chrono mode for counting seconds.
Wow! That black Seiko looks great! I wore the white dial with stunning blue hands on my wedding day! My best man had a beautiful Longines on his wrist that day, and while I am not fooling myself in any way, I didn’t feel one upped at all! The two watches were a great pairing on the right side of the aisle.
That Orient is simply gorgeous, would love to see it go head to head with the Sarb and the Aqua Terra for bits and giggles. Orient seem to go from strength to strength.
I've come really close to buying that perpetual calendar many times. Had I known it had sapphire I probably would have. So much value packed in that Seiko.
The Orient Star Classic was my first automatic watch. It's a lovely watch, my only complaint is the winding is a little "groinchy" but this seems to be a trait with a lot of Orient moverments.

Yeah they are definitely a bit grittier than the equivalent Seiko movement. Slightly noisier too!
Been eyeing that OrientStar up for years. Great to see a review!
I just received my orient star today and you are spot on while saying this looks better in person! The finishing work is 2nd to none
Love Jomashop; I bought an Orient open heart about a month ago from there. The prices they offer are insane!
Sadly not sapphire crystal on the OS. I have the black version, it’s mineral glass. Lovely watch nevertheless and looks far more expensive than it is. Probably my favourite in my collection. Thanks for the reviews!
Two great looking watches and another quality unboxing video. Thanks Jody, keep up the good work
I love blues hands on a silver or white dial. Looks great
That Orient Star is just lovely. Classic, old style simplicity with those extra style pops.
There are always some hidden gems to find Jody! You've definitely found one here, that Orient is fantastic!
The Orient may not be an SARB-killer, but it certainly is a Bambino-Killer!

At 2.5x the price? Don't think so, different categories.
I'm glad to see you do the orient, I've been looking at that one in gray for quite some time now, but unfortunately you don't see a lot of reviews of them, and none like yours. Thank you mate
I've wanted a perpetual calender for a while and you reminded me that I have that itch! They seem to be a bit rare. Just another reason people love and buy Seikos.
I was grinning to find the watch in today's video that I am actually waiting to be delivered. 2 things: I had the SPC133 before this SPC255, which didn't have Sapphire crystal and had 45mm dial. After learning that the same watch came in 40mm AND Sapphire, I had to get it. Number 2: that 24 hour sub dial can be set as GMT dial. Nobody has mentioned this in reviews, so there you go.
Nice choices man! I’ve eyed both these models on jomas’ site, especially that Orient. What a beauty
Love the Orient Star! I've been enjoying mine a lot on a personal strap
Very nice choices. I don't own an Orient watch. They are on my list to purchase. I own plenty of Seiko watches. I've not been impressed with their lower end lately. However that's one I'll consider further. I love my older vintage Seiko watches. Personally I enjoy a contrasting dial. Or at least darker. I'd have to replace that band right off, no way it would Fit my 8" inch wrist. Very few straps do. It would be nice if watch companies would offer longer straps as an option. It almost always means extra expenses for me. Neither of these are my typical size I feel looks right on me, however I'm buying a few 40s this day in time. Nice when I dress up. Another great unboxing. I really appreciate your work and knowledge.
yes, this orient star is stunningly good. most other watch u tubers reviewed the other colour variants of this same watch but i still find this white dial Blue hands is the best still . the painted blue hand is so smooth like lacquered painted somehow with special paint material . i acquired an exactly same one some years ago preowned from a lady owner who prefers wearing bigger size. this is a true/better MEN's FORMAL DRESS style watch since this is smaller and more classical 38 or so MM instead of the huge looking 41 or so mm bambinoes which is too big to be a formal wear but more suitable for daily /general wear .
Both watches are really cool looking. Looking forward to your full reviews.
That Orient is a real beauty! LOVE the blue hands :) It would go with a wide variety of straps
The Orient Star Classic is amazing. Simple but elegant. I have the white opaline dial, silver hands, on a milanese bracelet and it satisfied that 50s Omega itch without the fears of 2nd hand and all that entails with vintage. I would like it slightly smaller still
That’s a fantastic t shirt, I hope we get to see it again
I have the Orient Star- probably my favorite watch. Perfect size, beautiful dial.
Looking forward to the reviews Jody, both are interesting watches, the Orient star looks a little like a Grand Seiko.
My wishes have finally been granted. That Orient has been on my radar for the past few months, and the JOMW touch has a track record for making new watches appear in my box. Definitely looking forward to the full review of that little gem!

@@jonasnaeyaert3738 It would be an occasional wear so that's a non issue for me. Sapphire is always nice but for the price it's not a deal breaker.
This is probably going to be my first Seiko. I was looking for a nice watch with an alarm for a while. And I was also looking for an affordable perpetual calendar. This one has both and is way below of what I was willing to spend. Nice.

Good choice and not a common choice either 👍
Got mine in black from a seller in Singapore for 287 dollars American. Love it!!!The ones made for the Asian market are a bit nicer Star logo on roter in gold with some nice decoration on the movement. Also it shines like the high end Swiss watches.
Sadly, this Orient Star does *not* have sapphire, but mineral. Which is why I never seriously considered it. It does look great tho, and had excellent sizing.
I have the Orient Jodie and immediatly placed it on a matching sky blue crocodile strap. It's a keeper. In person the blue hands aren't as garish as they show up on camera.
Jody! I'm several minutes in and I've rewound the video 10 times already! I can't take anything in, as I can't stop laughing at your bloody t shirt! 🤣 Awesome! I have the Orient Star Basic Date RE-AU0402B00B. I absolutely love it. Fantastic GADA watch. One for the bigger wristed as it's a 42mm. But it wears great on my 7 1/2" wrist. More sporty case and bracelet than the one you have picked up. Might be one to review in future maybe? Right I'm off to set my own phasers to stunning! 😁
I have the Seiko perpetual chrono with white dial & blued hands - it's a nice piece, though readability isn't a strong point. Also quite fiddly to set properly (with the 24 hour subdial needing to be put in sync with the main hand set), so while the calendar doesn't need any attention, you'll be getting the manual out twice a year when daylight saving starts & ends. I've always had my eye on that Orient Star, but availability has been patchy & I never quite found the colourway I wanted to be available at a price I was willing to pay at time. Still tempted, though.

Good info on the Seiko chrono. I was thinking of getting one, as I have a readability problem with a JDM traditional 3 subdial Panda Orient I bought. On mine they seem to have made the hands as slim as possible to reduce impeding the view of the subdials, as a result in even medium low light, it's difficult to see the time. Is it the same low light issue for you Karl, or is it overall readability in general conditions?
@KarlAdamsAudio
2 жыл бұрын
Contrast is actually pretty good, and the hands are thick enough in the middle that you can see their position quite well, even in low light - but there's no minute track, or even markers at the hours, just those italic arabics. Your eye tends to latch onto nearby features of the tachymeter scale or calendar markers, and try to turn them into minute markers, which they're not. So even in low light you'll have a fair idea what the time is, but even in the best light you never quite know exactly what time it is. That's also why I have to set the time exactly on the hour, since there are some markers (60 on the tachymeter, 1 on the date scale) that do correspond exactly with the 12.

@@KarlAdamsAudio Thank you Karl! Excellent explanation!
Brilliant T Shirt Jody 🤣 🤣 That Orient Star, Yowsa!! It's got the same movement as my Triton that you were slagging off a few weeks ago. Remember, The awkward power reserve meter 🤣 🤣 🤣 💓
I has bought this Seiko 3 Month ago, but with white dial and ITS dimension is bigger than your. And that is the nice and cute watch, i replace the strap, changing with the brown one, and wear it at my cousin's wedding, what a nice formal watch
God I love that Seiko chronograph... I remember they released something similar with a white dial. But that black dial looks stunning.
I have the version with white textured dial and gold hands with gold markers. I love the perpetual calendar aspect, but wish I had the white dial with black italic numerals for better legibility.
That Orient Star is lovely!
Hello, it´s not often that I disagree with your picks but the Seiko Quarz Chrono is way to crowded in my opinion. And knowing that Seiko offers another Quarz Chrono with the SEIKO SSB385P1 (with a black or green dial and golden hands and indices - stunning!!!) for even less money just simply means that I made my choice already ;). The Orient Star however is a cool pick and was also unknown to me until now. So thanks for introducing me to that one and have fun checking the SEIKO SSB385P1!
The Orient Star is absolutely incredible!
I agree, if the orient had lume on the hands and a screwdown crown/100m wr it would be a collection killer
I have the Seiko SPC131 the white face, mineral glass and larger diameter version and enjoy it a bunch.
I love power meters. Love the one I have on my OrientStar world timer. On this, it looks fantastic! Such highly underrated watches...
Cool Gizmo on the Seiko.... reminds me of my Citizen Navihawk. Quartz are boring but that is fancy featured and good value so I guess it is ok.
Seiko is too busy for myself, the Orient looks stunning!
I have an older, white dial version of the Seiko Perpetual…and it’s a slam dunk! Mine has hardlex crystal, so glad to see this reference isn’t discontinued AND even features an upgrade now…sapphire! You have to be a light sleeper for the alarm to wake you up, but still pretty cool! That Orient is definitely a looker with those blue hands and stylish bracelet.

I do love a Orient Star Watch..I'm saving up fot the Diver at the mo'.. Cannae wait!😓
I have the Seiko 44mm version. Perpetual calendar, chrono, alarm, pointer date, in white, with blue hands and screw down case back. No crown jewel though. Was looking for a simple maritime piece and ran into this.
Nice pair, Jody!
That T Shirt was hysterical! I like them both. Have started to get more into quartz. Blame Casio.
Whoa! Nice gig from JomaShop.
Morning Jody, interesting stuff the seiko is really not my bag, but I have been looking for a chrono for some time, just can't decide! Perhaps that star could be my first proper dress watch, I like it!
Have that seiko in white - great watch. I like that it has white dial and really dark black hands (not blue like the previous humongous version). It´s my go to work dress watch. Looks great, wears great and sapphire was a perfect choice here. Pitty it´s not solar but we cannot have everything :-D
The Orient Star 💫 is an eye catcher!!!
I got this seiko in white, very good "9 to 5 office" watch
The Orient reminds me a bit of my Chris Ward C5 Mk III, also one of my favourite watches. Seems CW have gone all-in on the sports/military thing now, though, with nary a dress watch in sight.
The Orient star has been another on my wish list for a while. I’ve seen it in black for a good deal but I think it’s only got 50m W/R as well (can’t remember!)

@@JulesBrunoJjBaggy don't forget the rating doesn't actually really relate to depth 1 to 1. A 5ATM rated watch is suitable for splashes, showering and light; swimming but not suitable for pool side diving or scuba diving. I personally don't swim with anything less than 10ATM rating.

Hi Jodi, looking forwar to the full reviews of these two watches .
I've watched every one of your videos and up until now had managed to resist spending money, but you finally did it with that Seiko. An analogue quartz perpetual calendar and chronograph which can be had for £150 is a no brainer! Damn you/thanks!

Ha! Well done for resisting this long, Gary. And good pick up on the Seiko. I'm looking forward to spending some time with that one for the full review.
hey jodie any chance you can review when released the 6105 8000 reissue? SPB313J1, SPB315J1, and SPB317J1
Regarding the Seiko; I prefer watches I can just glance at and get an idea of the time. I don't want to have to think about it....
I've had the Orient Star a couple years. The shallow dial with the domed crystal is what makes it. No lume though.
I have rose gold Seiko it’s one of my fav simply for size and tools reliable time piece watch! It really is best for price
Hey jody! Love the seiko. I really really like these watches which have superb functionality. My pick of the bunch now is the CASIO lineage liw range. Superb level of functionality and with sapphire for less than 250 dollars! Shame its a japanese exclusive though..
You can always check some old microbrands, legendary in their times, like Artego, Boschett, Magrette, Kemmner, ORSA etc.
I like the Orient but I wish the minute and especially the seconds hands were a bit longer. Have a look at the silver dial/blued hands Certina DS-1 Powermatic 80. Very similar but with Certina proportions are just right 😉🐢👍
Am I the only one doing the intro “hellloooooooo and welcome to just one more watch” in Scottish accent? I swear I sound exactly like Jody now after watching his channel for over a year 😂😂
I cant take my eyes off that shirt. Keep them coming. My favorite watch reviewer.
that Orient is a nice find
Have a variant of that Seiko perpetual. White with blue hands, but no Sapphire. It's been in the drawer for over a year, and I don't remember why. I'll have to revisit it.
Both very nice!
Loved the look of the Seiko, but do I need another watch? Saw it in H. Samuel Lowestoft (UK Jewellers) in a "clearance" sale for £150.00. Couldn't resist. Really nice watch with unusual complications and am very pleased with it. You are right though, the strap is awful, although did stop squeaking after about a week.
Ok, who else just skipped straight to the Orient Star? Just me? That’s ok, I know I have an Orient problem. Thank you for the unboxing here, really looking forward to the full review. I’m an Orient fanboy and I’ve been very curious about about Orient Star. Specifically, is the value for money still there in their upmarket marquee? The initial impression is yes, but very, very excited for the full review.
the best sarb-33 alternative is the citizen nb1050, it's even better than the sarb was..
Very nice lovely looking watches
Love Joma. Allows paupers like me, to occasionally afford a bit of luxury - well,semi-luxury!😉😉
I have always loved Orient Stars, and I expect to see more on the channel, they really are great! Jody, I recommend you to check out the RE-AT0003S, it was one of my favourite pieces of my collection, unfortunately I had to sell it for my Omega.
I have the Seiko, a cracking good watch!😁
Would you review a Geckota C-01 gen 2?
How beautiful is that orient i just want one gorgeous
Hi, Jody. I hope you are doing well. Excellent video, however, I would like to talk about another one: two years ago, you posted a video about the Invicta Pro Driver 8926OB. Would it be possible to compare it to a superior Invicta model, the 9937OB? According to the manufacturer's website, in general, this model features the "flame fusion" crystal and the SW200 Swiss movement, but I would like to know if it is really superior and if it is worth paying more for it.
You really should check out the Seiko Brightz series. Solar, many made from Titanium and with their awesome ultra AR coating. Crazy beautiful models and bang for buck.
Does that OS indeed have sapphire? Joma still has it listed with mineral, that's the one thing that's held me back on that watch.
Is there a date coming up for Aliexpress summer sale? I’ve seen some watches discounted pretty well, but wasn’t sure if there was a particular date in June or July where we’ll see even deeper discounts. Cheers.
There is a cheap automatic with alarm - the vintage Seiko Bell-Matik
Nice white dialed Orient.
Love that Orient. Not a fan of that Seiko though. It just looks a little off to me. I have an Orient Star Sports Outdoor with this movement, and it is REALLY nice for the money. It was originally running quite fast but found out it had been magnetized during shipping. A quick hit with a demagnetizer and it was within 10 seconds a day. It's a beautifully decorated caliber, and the case has great finishing with brushed and polished surfaced that really make the PVD coating pop. That t-shirt though.... lol
Orient Star - I want them all...
