This is exactly the content I'd love to see more on this channel: less known (jdm) casio/citizen/seiko watches. Every watch channel talks about popular big releases but the catalogues of those 3 companies are so vast, there are tons of hidden gems, especially jdm models.

@@JusttheWatch sweet! give us the jdm goodness, dave! also i think (i'm not 100% sure) there are few interesting citizen/seiko watches that have limited release in Singapore and other nearby asian countries, like citizen nj0150. maybe sometimes you could dabble into that market as well.

Great video! Subbed. I can't believe more YT watch reviewers aren't doing more of this kind of thing. I have no hesitation buying direct from Japan (or from China for that matter). I know what I can get away with based on my wrist size and style preferences. We truly live in the era of Peak Watch. Keep up the good work, Dave.

Great video Dave. Thank you, and thank you to everyone who recommended these pieces, great work. After watching this I picked up on the the Citizen Pandas. Love the silver dial and like you said that beveled crystal wow. I've always been a Citizen fan (I have 4 Promasters now) and can't wait until I get this one. Thanks again for all you do, keep up the great work with the channel and your missionary work.

Excellent show. Thank You. I was in Japan in 1966 and bought a Seiko that was paper thin and one that was regular thin copies of a nice French Rectangular watch. The thin one kept bending and Seiko got tired of fixing it, so I had to throw it away. The thicker one I gave to my Father and after he passes away in 1988, I started wearing it myself. Still runs great after maybe 12 batteries and no other maintenance. You CANNOT BEAT A SEIKO!.

That Casio Lineage looks awesome! The countdown timer implemented like that is not one I've seen before and is pretty special. The Citizen is my favourite looking watch here though. For the Pilot's watch entries I would check out another Citizen offering in the form of the Citizen NJ0140 series. These are fantastic examples of pilot's watches and can be found for well under $350.

Casio Lineage are really great! An analog functional mechanism combined with a laconic, well-designed design and a compact case. Sufficiently high-quality finish of the case, cast bracelet, sapphire crystal and all this for less than $200. Bravo Casio! Thank you for your review, you helped me a lot with choosing a watch.

If Citizen ever released that world-timer/GMT in the US they would clean-up. That is such a cool watch. The only reason I can think of for not releasing it here is that someone in management there doesn’t like money. Seriously, the bezel is great, the dial looks great, and the 24hr scale on the deep rehout is so cool.

Only last week I got caught up with the hype around the MoonSwatch and if they were more accessible I'd gone out and purchase one. I'd promised myself not to scratch the itch of watch collecting. The problem was the said MoonSwatch had bought me out into a rash. Luckily, as week unfolded and more details about the watch came out. Then there was the dye leakage problem, also £207 for a plastic watch didn't seem a good idea. Then I watched this video about JDM watches (already own one). It made me have a look at what was on offer. I have now ordered a Citizen, Independent KL8-643-54, which is solar powered, atomic clock regulated, perpetual calendar and 100m water resistant. So thank you very much for helping me not making a terrible mistake and saving me £50. Well that's how I explained the purchase to the wife 😂

Thanks for the video! This is definitely a hard price point to shop for. Under $500. Looking JDM is definitely a must, you get great value on amazing watches. I hadn't heard of any of these. I do have an Oceanus, and a Citizen AT6080 but I got each of those for close to the $400 mark. I also have a Seiko Spirit, and Seiko Brightz, and the list goes on but for people new into watches who don't know where to start, these lists are gold especially since they're such unique finds.

I like Citizen getting some love. I had been a Citizen geek for most of my life! (Then I discovered mechanical watches, and well....) As for pilot watches: Might not fit into your plan, but I just bought a BYOP (Be Your Own Pilot) watch that I really love. Under $210 for a NH35 based watch from a micro-brand maker in Michigan. Worth a look....even if it doesn't fit into your "best of" video.

I’ve been thorough all the “cheap” Fliegers. This includes Laco and Dekla. The only one I kept is an Escapement Time 40mm. The downside is the PT5000 but they nailed everything else. Most cheap Fliegers get the proportions of the hands and dial wrong. And the Laco uses a Miyota movement w/ a known stuttering seconds hand problem.

Love this series of videos. Thanks for sharing with us. For the pilot's (flieger) watch video next week, I would recommend you to look at these watches: Seiko 5 Sports SRPG35K1, Citizen Pilot Leather Automatic NJ0140-25L and Orient Flight Sports Automatic RA-AC0H04Y. There are quite a number of microbrands that produce excellent pilot's watches too but I want to share my thoughts on watches that are easily available.

I bought the Orient, the 21 jewel grey version, some time ago and I find it to be a VERY nice daily wear watch and I use the inner rotating bezel all the time for timing various things. You wont see it on another wrist outside of Japan, I think. The accuracy is good but it picks up a minute when the main spring winds down. BEWARE, they made 2 versions of this watch....a 21 jewel version and a 22 jewel version. the 21 jewel version has a pusher at the 2:00 for changing the 'day' and does NOT hack or manual wind by the crown. The 22 jewel version lacks the 'day' pusher but has the better, hacking/hand wind ability movement. I enjoy wearing mine very much, and may pick up the one shown in this video at some point as that one has an interesting presence I think.

11.38. That rally strap on this Citizen looks just right, and that's how I'd wear it. Another thing, I think silver dials are really handsome, and the purple tone of the subdials adds a luxurious touch to the whole piece. Very nice.

I have a version of the last watch on your list. I got my Citizen Worldtimer around a decade ago (it has a yellow skeletonized GMT hand) and it's still going strong. I got it cheap off ebay as it was sized to a 16.5 cm wrist, which fit me perfectly. The lume is just okay, and can last through the night. That silver dial Citizen chrono is tempting.

Great set of watches! The last two are my favourite....the last citizen GMT being my most preferred! Looks amazing with awesome capabilities and something I'd love to own myself. Personally I have three watches, a Casio GW5610 square G-Shock, my everyday beater watch that will survive an apocalype. A JDM citizen that quartz with Japan only atomic signal-but I use the Japan signal app off my phone to check in the time....that one I was actually after the citizen mont-bell tough watch but a last minute swing and about a hundred dollar price difference got the one I have....wish I just got the other one sometimes but it's actually a really really nice watch still. Then a Seiko 5 sports automatic with the 4R36 movement...blue dial...changed the cheap bracelet strap to a blue and grey stripe cloth strap...really nice little watch to wear out somewhere, somewhat sporty, but tidy enough for smart casual. I love the Japan market of watches cos they are quality for the money. Thanks for sharing, great content 👍🏻

Hello Dave. Great video and information on those watches. If I had to choose my favorites those will have to be the Citizen Promaster Eco Drive Land Series GMT, followed by the CASIO Watch Lineage Radio Solar. Regarding my picks for best pilot watches I give you the following suggestions. I hope you don’t mind the large selection. Seagull 1963 Chronograph (Sapphire Crystal model). Seiko Fightmaster SEIKO Flight Chronograph Steel Black Dial Men's Watch SNA411, Seiko SNK809 (widely considered a field watch but in my opinion as a vet and a pilot I think it looks more like a hybrid between both a field and a pilot’s watch), Seiko Men's SNN241 Stainless Steel Watch with Brown Leather Band. Citizen Eco-Drive Promaster Nighthawk Quartz Men’s Watch, Stainless Steel, Pilot watch, Silver-Tone (Model: BJ7000-52E). Casio Men's EDIFICE Stainless Steel Flight Computer Chronograph Watch EF527D-1AV. AVI-8 Men's AV-4011 Hawker Hurricane Analog Display Japanese Quartz Watch with Leather Band (I recommend you check out the full Hawker Hurricane collection from AVI-8). Orient Pilot RA-AC0H04Y10A, ORIENT Sport Black Dial Black Leather Men's Watch FUNG2003B0, Orient 21-Jewel Automatic Aviator Flight Watch with Woven Nylon Strap #ER2A008D, ORIENT Pilot Automatic Grey Dial Men's Watch RA-AC0H02N10B. Stuhrling Original Men’s Leather Watch - Aviation Watch, Quick-Set Day-Date, Leather Band with Steel Rivets, Men Watch Collection. Islander 39mm Automatic Pilot watch with Black Dial and Sapphire Crystal #ISL-113. Swatch SISTEM ARROW (YIS403). Aristo 3H80 42mm Quartz Pilot's Watch with Sandblasted Case. Laco Zurich 40mm Pilot Quartz Watch #861806. I hope I didn’t overkilled here Dave. Best regards.

Thank you for the video! My favorite was the Citizen Promaster LAND, an amazing GMT watch for the price. As far as pilot's watches, I have owned several but fly almost exclusively with the Citizen Skyhawk C650 series in Titanium. I am a professional pilot and the C650 has been my daily flyer for over 21 years, it does everything, GMT, E6B & multi time zone. I had it refurbished by Citizen after 18 years of use so its now on its second life. Not a fan of the new Skyhawk Promaster AT and returned the one I purchased. For $350 I would recommend the Citizen C650 series (out of production but you can still find "new" on ebay for around $350, the Seiko Aviator, or the non AT Citizen Promaster Skyhawk (E6B but no GMT or multi time zone). For a GMT automatic, I have a Pagani 1662 Pepsi that has functioned amazingly well for a $100 automatic "homage".

I have this Edifice in my collection I love the look feel at 43mm and as my best friend is a pilot he was trying to teach me how to use it LOL Thanks again for the reviews.

Good selection Dave - that Lineage is a bargain with sapphire. My latest is a Seiko SBPY145, which has a V176 quartz chrono movement. I wish they had chosen this movement for the "Speedtimer" - no 24 dial, 1/20th seconds instead. Accurate to 15s/month.

The Citizen GMT you showed is BJ7100-82E (per examples on ebay) with steel bezel, steel bracelet. The number you gave has a black bezel, PVD coating.

As others have said, great video Dave. Once again, as a Citizan fan ( I have 5) nice to see the brand getting support. The Panda Dial chrono is very interesting but I think the bracelet would have to go..

The Lineage line are the most underrated watches. Outside hollow end-links on most of them, these are just the best at anything.

For the Pilot's watch video, look for the Bulova A-15 model. I love inner rotating bezels, and to have 2 of them, that is very useful in my opinion. You can use them to time up to 12 hrs tiem, and for tracking other timezones. And on the matter of this video... I'm biased, because I looked all over for the Orient KIng Master until I could get it sent to my home country. I had the original model from around de 1960's, and this reissue or homage is faithful to the measurements and design. The Orient may not be for everyone, but I think it's a very beautiful and unique design. Best regards!

I've got a SEIKO PREMIER AUTOMATIC SPB001 6R20 which I've purchased back in 2009. Still the nicest looking watch I've had to date.

Hi Dave, Loved this video, interesting and informative, so more of the same please if possible, I've got three JDM watches and as I'm a big fan of Casio the LIW-M700 was the one for me, just don't forget to add any taxes and customs/import duties to the final cost....stay safe

Love the orient flight watches like the RA-AC0H. Black/blue/grey face with a leather strap is the way to go imo.

Great video! I've been interested in the citizen panda chronograph and I'm saving up to purchase one. Quick question, what was the orange and black strap you had on it? It looks really nice!

I know you can get it in the west but the JDM Kamasu is higher quality and with the amazing days in English or Kanji. In nations like the UK that don't sell Orient its the same or cheaper to go on ebay ask the sellers of the JDM Kamasu if they can ship as a gift (half will) then barter with them on price and you can get it for 200 pounds or less with delivery, usually takes a week. That's what I did to get my red JDM Kamasu and I asked the seller to find one with a bezel that lines up and keeps good time, the book is stamped. I'm so happy that Orient decided to sell the YN55A and YN56A movements and parts for them as now you can change out a movement, they are exactly the same as the ones made by Orient, the YN56A is the day date like on the Kamasu and the YN55A is the day only, the only difference is the rotor. Also they sell spare parts like springs and balance wheels, stems or any part of the movement. Before you could not buy anything from Orient apart from a strap or a bezel. Also the YN55A and YN56A will fit on NH35 dials, date windows will fit up and it will accept NH35 hands. But they are made in Japan and Cheaper than the NH series plus better in every way. The Kamasu and probably the ray2 and mako2 uses the SKX 120 click spring if yours ever breaks. I just love my red JDM Kamasu with the days in Kanji as it screams Japan. You can get many JDM watches tax free on eBay if you type in the model number and ask the seller to send as a gift so tax free and barter on the price. Luckily I also have some friends in Japan. In my opinion apart from Orient all the large Japanese brands that make autos are way to over priced now. I really like that citizen eco drive GMT and I wish citizen would do more watches with the miyoya 9000 series as its such a good movement.

JDM (Japan Domestic Models) look similar to the ones that are sold in USA. I liked how nicely they are put together and finished. Japan has very good industrialists.
