Seiko SPC131P1 Unboxing | Perpetual Calendar Chronograph

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Affordable elegance is alive in this Perpetual Calendar Chronograph watch from Seiko. The Neo Classic SPC131P1 packs a lot of punch for a decent price, if you can find one of these depleting stock pieces. It features a perpetual calendar with day/date/month/leap year, chronograph with tachymeter and 24 hour sub dial, blued handset with a running seconds sub dial, plus a sub dial that displays an alarm when set, or 24 hour time when the alarm is off.
I was introduced to this watch by @Last Watch Horology in this video • Seiko Perpetual Calend... and just had to have one! What a dial! I was able to scoop up this beautiful Seiko on eBay for $144 USD. Culling together info from the serial number, battery life, and dust between the lugs, this may have been a display case sample from 2019, but appears to be in completely brand new condition. Seiko still offers some great value, even at lower prices, if you can find closeouts like this!
Specifications
Case diameter: 44mm
Lug to lug length: 51mm
Case thickness: 11mm
Lug width: 22mm
Stainless steel case and fixed bezel
Leather strap
Screw down case back, push/pull crown and standard chronograph pushers
100m water resistance
Seiko quartz movemnt 7T86
Note: this video shows the watch in detail exactly how it came. The hands were a little off and I calibrated them as I went through the entire setup process after filming this video. The process is a little tricky the first time around, but easy to get familiar with. You can see the crescent moon didn't line up with the date correctly, but it does now...after calibration.

Ha! Well, that’s why I called it show and tell! But there are a few pieces still out there...you just have to WANT to hunt! Makes it a project! It really is beautiful. Fun to watch the hands spin around after switching from chrono to regular mode. I might need to buy some batteries!

I bought mine about a year ago, and I’m still crazy about it. I don’t want to wear any of my others. I replaced the strap right away with a Barton top grain navy blue strap with white stitching. Really nice. Cant understand why it’s less available. It’s the best one.

I’m REALLY diggin’ it so far. I’ll be strap shopping for leather as well, but the Hadley-Roma Kevlar style strap that I showed in the video works really well. An Artem Sailcloth would look sweet on this! Yeah, I can’t believe this wasn’t a popular model for them. Loaded with features/complications, and great looks! May have been too big for some?

@@WatchWitt The Barton strap is quick release and is very flexible. Don’t know if you have those, but this is my first one. I don’t think I’ll ever go back. You can take it off and on your watch in seconds to clean your watch or change the color. I suppose people never learned what a great watch it is and those smart watches seem to be taking over. Those are just another digital watch to me regardless of what you paid for it.

  • @WatchWitt

Yeah, quick release are nice. The only bummer is when you want to put a traditional strap on! Sooner or later we’ll probably be all quick release…even bracelets are coming with them now. I DO like enjoying traditional straps with fat sturdy spring bars, though.

  • @dgm2006

@@WatchWitt Not seeing more weakness in the spring bar yet, but the leather may be weaker since it has a slot for the quick release. When it does break, and all my straps eventually do, it will sure be a breeze to put another quick release on. I already have an extra caramel strap waiting. Have you found these to break sooner?

  • @WatchWitt

@@dgm2006 No, I haven’t experienced them failing sooner. Was just noting that I like beefy spring bars!

It was made in 1999, before the turn of the millennium. If it was made in 2009, there should be a full stop before the start of the serial number, e.g .931663 which means it was made in 2009, but yours is just the number, no full stop, so there's a high possibility it was made in 1999.

I don't think these came out until 2019. I know the movement was released in the 1990's, though. The Seiko serial number date identification has been tough for me to decipher...seems like they keep changing the character nomenclature.
