Double Kiln Opening - Oxidation Ceramic Kiln Unloading - Pottery

Holy moly have I been busy glazing! SO busy that I’ve decided to combine 2 kiln openings into this one video!
Kiln opening number 1 was fired to a cone 5 with a 10 minute hold in my olympic kiln. The 10 minute hold makes the cone 5 fire to more about a cone 5 ½.
Kiln opening number 2 was fired to a cone 6 with no hold. This firing did get a little hot and was inching into cone 7. And as you’ll see, it definitely affected some of the glazes getting that hot!
Though I do not take the time to name each commercial glaze, most all my glazes are made by Mayco or a local pottery supply shop, Tacoma Clay Art Center.

They are crystals that I sift out of commercial glazes. I'm sure you could probably find them on their own but I haven't gone looking for them!

My gosh that’s a lot of planters!! Love the geometric ones the best!! May I ask what kind of company ordered all of these? That kiln mug is just AMAAAZING!! The personal tea set is an amazing idea!! Definitely make them wider but I LOVE THE IDEA!!! Just fyi. Be sure to stack the biggest pieces on the bottom and go up. Soo sorry about the black copper glaze! Oh no. Is it Jessica Putnam Philips black copper? The pasta bowls are sooo perfect!!

It's a local plant nursery in WA state. What do you mean by stacking the biggest pieces on the bottom? And no, it's a Mayco glaze. Thank you for the comment and encouragement!

@@penningtondesignpottery I’m sorry. I meant to be sure to stack your tea set with the tallest piece on the bottom so it has less of a chance to fall over.

I love your pottery. When you refer to the color "Blush", can you tell me what kind of glaze that is because some of my fellow potters from our studio are having a hard time getting tones of pink to work on their pieces. Thank you in advance for your help😊

I currently use all commercial glazes, I just rename them for my own use because I'm not a fan of some of the names. lol. But the Blush is Cashew Later, formally known as Birthday Suit, Stoke and Coat by Mayco.

Thank you so much! I have only ever made the one mug for myself. I figured they would be so costly to make, with the outside being actual gold luster, that people probably wouldn't want to pay the price needed to make it worth it. lol
