I realize I'm five years late but, if you play the mode where you can hurt each other, if you land the final blow on your friend you steal the life instead of it being wasted. It makes it worth it, just keep separated and if you run low on health let your friend kill you.

James will not beat the final boss alone on his present stack of lives. And there are more spike rooms ahead, too, although this is the hardest one. Maybe with continues, he'll do it? I forget how the continues work in this game, but I think they said it offers them?

I loved this game, I remember getting this as a kid. I help my step dad do yard work all weekend. He said he would get me a game. We went to kiddie city and DD2 just, came out. It was the most expensive game I ever got 64.99 he was mad, he kept trying to talk me into getting one of the 49.99 games. Me and my friends played the heck out of that game. 👍👍

"G-R-A-S-P" I still laugh at this every time I see it. This looks like it was a fun game to tackle for the two of you-- until the crap at Stage 6, anyway. Co-op beat-'em-up games are good ones to play to show how well you work together, and how much each of you remembers about the game. Hearing the personal memories, like James throwing the Linda into the wall or Mike talking about how an end boss wasn't as difficult as he remembered, just adds to the enjoyment of these videos for me. I admit that I winced a few times during close jumps and even uttered an obscenity or two as Mike struggled at the end of this segment. That's how you know that you're really into what you're watching... and I always love the fact that these videos make the viewer feel as if he/she are sitting in the same room, just watching the games being played. Admittedly, I find myself talking to my laptop screen at times, responding to a conversation that James & Mike are having, because I feel like I'm there. Here's hoping we see you guys beat this game next week!

Friendly fire brings an element of challenge to the game. With friendly fire enabled, it's no just "hit this guy as much as possible without running out of health." It's "hit this guy as much as possible without running out of health or hitting your teammate." You have to work as a team, like a dance. You can't just swarm a target and button mash while only keeping an eye on your health bar.

I always played this game in 2p B mode and beat up Jimmy till he was out of the game. Every time you "killed" him you got a life. So it was essentially a cheat to get 3 or 4 extra lives. - took about 10 minutes but it worked lol

As a kid stage six was terrifying (just the jumps etc) and there was another one with some crazy jumping (the trap door stage) but I remember playing this daily back in the early 2000s. I got so good at this I wouldn't lose a life until the last stage. Ah those were fun memories. It's cool to see you tackle this one as this was one of my favorite NES games.

Just wanted to let u guys know if you like Mike and James dont know the grapples. When you hit your enemy 3 or 4 times, they do a crouch animation and hold their stomache. Stop punching (or kicking ) and just walk in to the enemy and a grapple is initiated. Then just hit A or B for diffrent punches and finish with left A or B, or Right A or B for diffrent throws

To throw enemies in Double Dragon II: The Revenge, you press the A or B button that is opposite the direction you're currently facing. While grasping an enemy, if you press down and attack, you can elbow the enemy in the head, and if you press up and attack, you can kick the enemy high into the air. I used to play this game a lot... sorry if I'm giving you information you already know.

Thanks for bringing back the good memories I have of this game, and the bad memories I have of that final room. Every single time I played this with my brother we got to that room without losing a life and then lost all of our lives on that room. Sometimes one of us would be it in our last life and then just die instantly on the next part. It happened so much we eventually just used game genie to get by it.

The spin kick is performed by hitting one of the attack buttons at the top height of your jump and the hair grab (with a variety of follow up combo's like knees, elbows, upward kick and flip throw) is best performed by walking forward while punching (as you need to be on top of the enemy during their hit stun state to activate). Also, hitting the forward facing attack button while kneeling (when you get up after being knocked down or after landing from a jump) lets you perform a mighty uppercut that does crazy damage and knocks down instantly and jumping forward from a kneeling state let's you perform the most damaging attack in the game: the violent knee attack. It's like a smash attack and sends enemies flying, best suited to instantly knock big guys off cliffs and ledges. Another protip: the backwards 'donkey' kick is your friend in the underwater base, as it has more reach than your punches.

or u can just kick them then grab their hair. also theres another knee attack if u move towards ur enemy and punch as theyre getting up, they get kneed in the balls and stunned. also they dont seem to be rising off the ground with the uppercut or tiger knee counters. that usually stops enemies trolling u. the tiger knee is the best move in the game, im surprised theyre not abusing it like u usually do :).

Michiel Kroder yea theres 2 different knee attacks tho, u have the tiger knee and a standing knee attack u can do as the enemy is getting off the floor. the moves list is vast, thats y this is the best DD game on NES imo. in DD3 they stripped u of so many moves it just ruined the game.

I got this game soon after it came out. This was one of my favorites, my brother and I played the hell out of it. It was a challenging game but once you got the hang of it you could blow through it pretty easily. The best parts were making guys fall out the helicopter door, tossing them off cliffs, throwing grenades back at them, etc. That's what I loved the most. There were so many elements added to give you a ton of different ways to fight. Plus, for it's time, it had one of the coolest scenes when you beat the main boss (I won't spoil it for anyone who never played or are too young to have played the game).

The problem with that game is you have to press B and A at the same time to jump and it doesn't always work when you want. I hated that shit.

I played the Hell out of this game as a kid, and still do enjoy playing it from time to time. On those platforms the trick is to jump when the one you're standing on is flashing. Don't wait for the next one to start to appear. Your jump is so slow that it'll be there by the time you arrive, and that will give you more time to position for the next jump. Also you guys are missing out on some of the fun bits. If you hold toward your enemy while punching you can do a grab. From there you can tap punch to do a knee smash, hold up and push punch to do a high kick, hold down and tap punch to do an elbow smash, or press in the other direction to throw. You can also do an uppercut by pushing punch as you're recovering from a jump, or while getting up from being knocked down, which is great for enemies who like to stand over you. The spin kick is done by pressing A and B at the same time while at the peak of the jump. Lastly there's the "dragon knee" which is done by pressing A+B while getting up from a jump or knockdown (but the game is very picky about timing), so it's difficult to do reliably.

One thing interesting about mode B is if you kill the other player you get an extra life. So if you are playing alone you can kind of cheat and get a few 1 ups at the beginning by doing that.

Pretty noob styles. Where are the KNEES and UPPERCUTS, those were the BEST things about DD2. Especially the knees, they go halfway across the screen when they get hit. I used to just do nonstop knees, there's like a lil glitch where they cannot touch you(unless they hit you in the air) because you're always crouching basically and you do another knee before you stand back up completely.
