I don't know why you guys keep avoiding the R power up. It stands for Rapid and it speeds up the bullets. It works on all the guns, moving the bullets across the screen faster so you can get more hits in. It even works with the machine gun.
I was honestly laughing out loud watching their reactions to the most intense moments. I really wish they'd do more straight playthroughs of difficult games.

RedHairdo I got really confused for a moment since the name of the dude you responded to is Riehardo and your name is Redhairdo lol But I always thought that a difficult game would be the kind of game that require you to pay a lot of attention even if you're really good at them, kinda like God Hand for the ps2, or most Ninja Gaiden games. The Contra games are this kind of game too imo. Sorry for my shit english.

Super C is better than Contra, for one simple reason: The enemy bullets flash in Super C and are more visible than the ones in Contra, which way too easily hide in front of some backgrounds.

Realistically, most of the NES library hasn't aged too well by this point. It's nearly 30 years old, so it's understandable. The Contra games though...they were SO well done and unique that they set a benchmark that almost made them immune to aging. If the Contra games are still fun at this point, I see no reason why they won't be when I'm an old-assed man.

God just watching people play this game has my heart racing. You guys are true gamers for beating this game without the 10 live code, and with two players. I could never do it.
This brings back so many memories. I like James' room, it reminds me of the 1990s somehow and that really creates a pleasant environment, at least for me it does. Keep it up guys!
Something kids much younger than 20 (my age) will never know now days is the joy we all used to get from having a sleep over on Friday night after school and sitting on the couch or on the floor on an old ass tube TV playing some video games co-op. I still love playing games over the internet with my friends and meeting new friends in games is awesome, but nothing will ever again compare to the memories I have of gaming with my friends and siblings all night like this.
I grew up with this game. We only had Super C and Ice Hockey, and I always watched while my older siblings beat the game over and over. When I was older enough to play, I already memorized the whole game. Playing it in co-op for so many years, we can finish it with no code and no continues pretty easily.
Cant believe I am still rewatching this episode! Epic!
brings back memories of the old days playing this with my older brother
Just some tips: S is better when you shoot twice for a 5 spread instead of just tapping like crazy F is the most Overpower weapon of the game, it insta kills bosses immediately (try holding fire and re tap fire for double fire) R just increase the shooting of the weapon you have, which is good with S and I agree with the L, it sucks.
Look at James' face. He's really enjoying this, lol!

Oh, by the way, that powerup that you guys thought did nothing, it actually slightly increases the firing rate. Collecting multiple can make your bullets fly at faster speeds. They actually really help, especially if you have the Machine Gun.
That was intense gotta say O_o

That was quite a ride down memory lane, you should do more of these... Viewers are sympathetic to what you guys "go through" so it adds to the fun factor! Thumbs UP!
I love these videos. You guys remind me of playing all these awesome retro games with my brother growing up. Co-op for the win!
I LOVE this game. Play it all the time on my NES. I actually find this one more fun than the original.
11:12 "They're not regular bubbles that you fuck" - Mike Matei
I think I speak for everyone when I say you can run these as long as you want, guys.
Lazor doesn't sucks! It's my favourite weapon in both games because you can make a light saber by pressing turbo button :D.
this contra was actualy my first one that i played and i still after 15 years since my last nes system i still download a emulator just to play this game it never gets old this one is awesome 1 of the best games from nes games library good video keep it up
"It's like you lose a family member when you lose spread" - James, 2013 Gets me every time xD
THIS IS ONE OF YOUR GUYS BEST VIDS IMO
This was very interesting, the whole no-cut thing. I think you should definitely do this waaay more. Kind of feels like you're there with you guys :D Kind of like that feeling when a buddy got a new NES game back in the day, and he wouldn't let you play lol... And all you could do was sit there and watch the trial and error.
"I don't want to see one damn cut" **immediatly cuts** I thought that part was great it actually made me laugh pretty hard. nice touch.
Mike Matei, James clearly told you not to make a single cut and immediately after you laughed, you made a cut.

I'd like to see them play Contra The Hardcorps , I had that game since I was a kid ,and used to play it with my little bro all the time . Good times ..
Mike died in the last level, I guess he didn't make the cut
That was actually a good run guys :D. You two are an awesome duo at 2player games. Shame there aren't many games like this nowadays.
either or you two bring back very good childhood memories, love this channel Cinemassacre
You guys need to do more of this kind of stuff. I love the random commentary mixed in with familiar gameplay. I love listening to you guys shoot the shit about random videogames and I love watching you guys get that intense mouth hanging open zoned in nerd-out look on your faces when you get to a screen that requires serious focus. Reminds me of my younger vidyagame days.
You need to do more playthroughs! That was funny, intense and entertaining! :)
This had my heart racing...don't think I could cope with this game..
i like these kind of videos where mike and james plays some random game. Just awesome.
I loved so much watching you guys playing! Hope you make more videos like this one.
Contra 3 has 360 spread if you pick up two spreaders and hold L, R and the fire button
James ended up being Seiya, the only survivor who fights the final enemy
During the last part with the collapsing ceiling and all the orb things...once the wall comes all the way down, you can still jump over the next gap to the platform. The character will kind of "stick" to the ceiling thing and you'll make it across.
You've got me on an old-school nintendo run. It feels surprisingly good to master the games that made me pull my hair out as a kid. Contra and Super Contra went down today
One of my favorite episodes. Would love to watch them do Contra 3 - Alien Wars full play-through.
Intense.
I like watching you guys play co-op games. I have never had friends that try to work as a team the way you guys do. Awesome to see how well it can pay off.

David Robert me too but I'm more familiar with this one as well, do maybe that's why.
My mate and I loved this game, though in Australia it was known as Probotectors 2- Return of the Evil Forces. We would play it all the time and that is how we discovered the first one (from a second hand store). It was like a revelation, to finally start it from the beginning... We also used to race at the end of the side scroll, if you jump at the right time, when the music starts up, you're further to the right than your mate. With the top down- we tried to stand in the exact position where you walk straight and not have to be corrected. Added that little bit more fun to the game haha!
I was so tense throughout this whole video I forgot i wasn't the one playing! nice work gents! kEEP UP THE GOOD CHANNEL WORK! I love staying as occupied as I do watching you guys I get lost in it like i do when I am the one playing!
