    David, the correct-sized bungs should be attached to each thru-hull with a piece of line so they are ready to go in an instant if you need them. Wouldn't have to wake up one of the kids to search for them while you are sinking. :)

    Speaking as a sailor and boat guy who's refitted my friends boats as well as my own, I would say to take the manifold to a local machine shop, and see if they can re-machine/reface that surface in a way so that the seals will fit. They're made of aluminum, so you might even be able to have them cut and then machine a new interface exactly like the old one, then attach it either by welding aluminum (make sure the shop can do aluminum welding first!), or rough up the surfaces and use epoxy (which I kinda don't recommend). Either way, it "should" be lower cost than buying a whole new unit. The shop should have CNC machining ability for carving out the new manifold interface from a solid aluminum block.

    Love the kid pod idea. Fans in each of course. (You could do a transom window for air flow in each with just a piece of fabric that pulls across and attaches on the other side. ) Here's what I learned about boat fridges, as mine defrosts, again.... Just buy a consumer grade full sized fridge. On your boat, just carve out whatever sized hole you need for it to fit. It'll be ugly? Who cares when your family is eating ice cream four weeks into a passage. It will be frost free, 1/3 the price, twice the capacity, at least twice the efficiency, it'll be more reliable, last at least ten years. Spending $4k or more on a fancy boat fridge is wasting $3k or more; it won't be frost free, the unit will drip making a puddle, it will breakdown, adding lots more problems to your boat work list. So now you are in Guam and your fridge breaks. Either you just go over to Costco and buy another one for $800, or you wait weeks for a $1500 part to be air freighted except it's currently out of stock. And you'll also have to hire a refrigeration tech to make sure the gas is properly pressurized.....

  • @david_shih

    @david_shih

    7 ай бұрын

    oooh good idea on the fans....totally forgot about that. hey why do consumer fridges not defrost like the boat ones do? We'll have the 120v power to support a consumer fridge so that should be no problem. i like the idea of being about to replace quickly at any port. thx for the idea

  • @WillN2Go1

    @WillN2Go1

    7 ай бұрын

    That's exactly the right question. Why are consumer models better than custom ones? Defrost is what my grandmother had to do with her Norge every month or so, and what usually has to be done with boat fridges. Frostfree is the current state of the art. No maintenance. When they made the Eniac computer back in the 1950s they needed 15,000 vacuum tubes, so they tested all the available vacuum tubes for reliability and consistency. The costly 'long life' ones were manufactured in smaller quantities and proved to be inconsistent and almost never long lived. (I experienced exactly this in the 1990s trying to buy long life headlamps.) The most consistent, longest lasting tubes were the ones produced in the greatest number. When your company makes a consumer fridge it has to meet U.S. and EU efficiency guidelines. If it gets recalled, that could cost billions. So more engineering time, more robustness, against more competition. The only way is to make it good. For a boat, all you have to do is make it fit in the space, make it look nice, install a refrigeration unit. The tubing might run all over the place subjecting it to vibration that was never tested. I learned this from Sail Oceans YT channel. As soon as Bartek showed their new fridge, I plugged in what I already knew. re: fans. My friends I sailed 7500 nm on Kiskadee (Seawind 1260) . They drilled holes from each locker through the cabinets to bilges, to spaces on the other side of the room. Then they installed the quietest computer fan they could find. This vents all of these spaces. For the kids' bunks, Jabsco fans are terrific....but it's just too easy to stick a finger into the blades. Maybe instead use computer fans. I've got two AC Infinity fans that have been blowing filtered air into my stereo amp for the past 4 years 24/7. What I like about you David, is I share what I know and you improve it, use it, shoot it and share it on KZread. @@david_shih

    That was an epic tour and comparison David..much liked it🎉❤...enough to do still on your boat😅 but you have some great ideas..kids pods..studio..flexibel solar also on sail. I always like boat tours..also to get clever otherone's ideas for my own boat=home. As I changed some functions of the cabins..main aft sleep to salon&sleep..and main salon to sleep&salon..I now try to figger out to go get more easy access to the storing areas underneath the (former) banks..not wanting to remove the heavy (normal not boat) mattresses every time (as also shown in your video although less heavy boat matresses). And..the private self-own-boat builder of my boat used perforated aluminium plates in the cabinets' doors everywhere for ventilation...I think clever idea I want to copy elsewhere. For you and Colin's Parlay it are mostly hot weather things..now here in the Netherlands winter period..0-10 degrees C..it is more the cold things. Thanks David and curious to your next vlog!!

    "Over the years, I've encountered five near-death experiences. As an older cat, I've witnessed the world change dramatically, and unfortunately, not all for the better. The gap between health, wealth, and the everyday American seems to widen with each passing day. Government interventions, meant to support our families, often feel like they take more than they give. It's a struggle for both families and individuals, and I've seen loved ones succumb to depression, deteriorating health, and the mental toll of life's relentless challenges. Since the Desert Storm war, I've noticed lives becoming shorter, and it's a stark reminder of life's brevity. This reality emphasizes how fleeting our time on Earth truly is. It's a poignant realization that life can change in the blink of an eye. Your growing following, including Collin and the team, reflects a shared understanding of these universal truths. The preciousness of life and its unpredictability resonate deeply. It begs the question: do we truly have control over the time we're given? It's a question I often ponder. The salon is Italian word originally (sala/room) the salon was a room for rich families that gathered their guests for discussion and exchanging news and idea,different from the reception room and the iconic favourite dining room. I thought Parlay was a Jamie 465, nkt you're saying it's this other brand...Lagoon? Never heard of them. Must be independent like that Windelo or Privilege. (Yes that is a joke)
