First we sold everything and sunk it all into our dream boat, a Lagoon 450 catamaran. Then we found out it had broken bulkheads which would cost $100k to fix. The manufacturer refused to take responsibility or even assist so I searched the world for help and somehow connected with Sailing Parlay Revival. I abandoned my family in Texas and sailed across the entire Carribean to Panama to figure out a way to make our boat whole again.

    Yeah dude no shit! Did nobody tell you that lagoons are the least capable boats you can get? Like seriously. THAT is the "Lagoon experience" 😅People do not say without reason that "they build the boat around the curtains". Btw you do know who are "they"? Interior designers. Yeah. Through that lack of performance mindset you get a rudder that is in front(!!!!!) of the prop and not behind so you get a proper hydro flow around the prop! Like wtf!? Yeah, that steering issue is also "Classic lagoon". The one I sailed in croatia for two weeks was not able to be steered by hand. It was always going to the side only the autopilot could somehow manage to steer straight ahead. But you couldn't use the winches when using the autopilot because the battery system was waay underpowered for even basic sailing(The moment you realize lagoon is a big middle finger to anyone who loves sailing). But yeah. the boat builders have no sailing in mind. They only think about chartering(It's like the apple of boating who completely lost the touch to it's customer base). I'm DEAD serious. All these issues are often read on several sailing forums. It wasn't a unique instance. I know it's always a hustle to sell a boat and buy a new one. But LITERALLY EVERY other boat is a better sailing boat. I would check out Privilege. Like the around y2k models 96-2008 there you can get quite the nice luxury(with high polish luxury woods, LOVE IT)boats around 45foot for 250-300k. Check out Zatara they have a freaking beautiful 585.

    How do you buy a boat and get insurance/loan with no prior sailing experience/log/certification? I'm about to go get my asa 101-114 to even start that process because everyone has said that I can basically kiss insurance goodbye (let alone any part of financing) if I don't have SOME kind of cert/training.

    I always Love to see your videos. Learning how to navigate a sail and keeping everyone safe is a Captain's goal. You do learn quickly and have support from Mary too, which helps. After reading many comments i feel you already know the severity of having so many changes to your voyage and improvement of your crew and sea skills. Glad Jamie was onboard to assist. We all could use a well experienced mate. Sea school and more time on the water will make you safer and future sails more comfortable. Don't be afraid and always remember to learn from any mistakes you or even others make. My goal is to learn something new every day. Lines on deck look cool, but always better in a secure box somewhere. Great high seas fix with the zip ties. Ospho rust elimination will stop rust on mount plates and ready the surface for paint to assist against corrosion. Ospho is great in the engine room and any iron protection. But be careful in use and onboard storage. Be safe and we look forward to another adventure soon. Randolph and Traci

    Sorry but this sounds foolish to sell your house to live on the boat full time. With millions of people fighting to get into a home along with rising housing prices and interest rates, it will be even more difficult to get back into a house once you get tired of this lifestyle. Most people quit this sailing lifestyle after a few years for many reasons. Just remember that every year your boat is depreciating in value while real estate continues to go up in value. For example, say your house is worth 700K and you sell it now. Years down the road when you get sick of this lifestyle and want to go back into a house again, an equivalent house that you want to live in may cost you $1.2M and with an even higher interest rate! On top of that, you now have to pay an even higher property tax just to live in the same kind of house that you lived in before. So unless you got $10M in the bank, this lifestyle is not practical. So please DO NOT SELL YOUR HOUSE.

  • @david_shih
    @david_shih6 күн бұрын

    oh...it's definitely not practical, i'll give you that. but it's a dream you know? we're debating hard on if we should keep it and rent it, but we need some of the cash out of it at the moment.

    Sorry, you're so sympathetic people, all the four - but this is gravely irresponsible. Especially with small kids. Boat obviously far from seaworthy, you lack even the basic knowledge - and find it funny to place yourself and others into risk? Once, you may - hopefully before running into serious trouble - have enough experience and knowledge, you'll have learned, how quickly 'trouble' at sea can switch into existential threat. If you behave for yourself and your wife like drunk teenagers - your choice. But the kids....?? It's not fun wacthing this.
