Look Dave, I live in a desert not the woods like you. But I really want this ax....a lot. It's darned cool....even if I never used it, it would simply be great to own and appreciate for the old school USA quality. I'm 66, born in 1950 (Truman was President....you know, the man who nuked Japan twice) and this kind of quality is what I grew up with in northern Minnesota. It's something of a miracle, that this kind of USA quality is still being made!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Greetings Dave, what a well done video to launch you into the New year! This CTV Saddle Axe looks like a very well thought through tool that fills an important niche in the market. I like how you took time to explain the correlation between the folding knife, the axe and the sheath knife, a central epithet of Nessmuk's style of woodmanship. I look forward to following your videos, as always, in 2017.

Great question, my friend! I would highly recommend the 24" Council Tool Boy's Axe. The original Council Tool boy's axe is a 28" (which is outstanding) but if you are looking to pair it with the Husqvarna Hatchet, I think the 24" would be perfect! It's great quality and very affordable - just an outstanding value! I am leaving you links to my video on the 24" Boy's axe and where you can pick one up. Very cool little axe Dave, I hope they eventually offer it in a longer handle length too. Looking at the mask, I think I would add a strap (or buckle) to the other side as well so you could go around the handle and safe the edge you aren't using (two single masks that could be joined). An easy modification for inexperienced or accident prone folks, or even a safety-savvy Doctor of Axeology! Great to have a new video from you!

Dave I love this axe and will probably be blessed by Santa with one next month! It was a choice between this or a Husky 26" Forest Axe(and since I already have the 13 and 19" Huskies I thought this was more prudent-PLUS the Outdoor Gear Review guard and sheath make it more expensive than this one!). Thank you Dave for taking the time to show us a great tool, I do love a multi-tool, I am sure it could be used in a pinch as a knife-ish tool as well. Would it be good on a fire steel?. The 3 tool system is and has been a great way to carry all the tools you need in a survival situation. Love the Opinel Knifes, but the Mora I feel is still the best for the price you pay. That said I am now a lucky owner of a Jacklore. Great content, in you usual easy going style. Shame we can't get the axe in the uk. All the best in this new year. Dave UK

I want to put together a quality survival/bug out bag. Would this be a good tool to add? Or would there be a better tool for a similar or lower price? (I already have a larger axe, just need a small thing to carry with me and have finer control for splitting or smaller trees/brush) I plan to have 3 major tools and a multi tool. A medium sized axe for heavier work (have it), a small hand/saddle axe for lighter work, and a survival knife.

Great video Dave. This is the first of hearing about this axe. I immediately went to Council Tool's website only to find that the description says only a VERY limited amount of these axes will be made and offered to first come first serve buyers. I have to admit this is disappointing news seeing that the company could have a hit on it's hands and does not make it available to more buyers. I'm all for buying american made but I'm not impressed by limited availability when it comes to interesting items such as this. I feel that the odds of getting one of these is very slim.

It has not yet been released but is coming very soon, which is why you didn't find information on this one on the website, just yet. So hang in there, my friend! Thank you fro the kind words! Council Tool uses 5160 for all of their premium axes and I like the steel very much. Most of them are tempered to a rockwell hardness of about 54, which is a perfect balance of holding a great edge but not so hard that it's brittle, especially in cold weather. I appreciate the awesome comment, my friend! -Dave

Another well done video, thanks. Constructive Comment: When you reference edge bevel geometry, it would help viewers if you were to deliniate if you are referencing DPS or INC (Degrees Per Side or Inclusive both sides). I understand that when discussing axes, hatches, etc. it is common to use Inclusive, but many don't follow any common standard when discussing edge-bevels in degree (as a result the numbers are many times incorrectly given and or interpeted).

Say Heah Dave, WoW, Awesome, Thanx You so much for sharing this beauty. Thanx You, I have a 2Hawks Double Bit Hatchet, It's a close copy of Nessmuk's Double Bit Hatchet he had custom Ade, But he was a smaller man then I so when I first opened the box, I thought it was a Miniture, But regardless it's a great substitude for a large knife. I did make a wannabe Nessmuk Trio, I have a Rough Rider stag, Moose Patern Slipjoint Pocket Knife, and my recent Adventure Sworn Guide which is a Nessmuk Knife in 3V and mine from tip to handle is 5" and even though there's no real mention of Nessmuk's knife size, But I believe it to be a 5" blade, Anyhow that's my wannabe Nessmuk Knife, and of course my 2Hawks Double Bit Hatchet, But this Council has me excited, Kewl BeanZ, Thanx, Dave. ,, .

Maybe I didn't make it clear, When I first got the 2Hawks Double Bit Hatchet, I thought it was a Miniture, Yeah, It's small, But it's no toy, It's a lightweight that punches like a heavyweight. Anyhow I really like it because I wear it no problemo on person and I use it as a large knife and it's great. Anyhow, George Washington Sears aka Nessmuk was a small man and he had the Double Bit Hatchet Custom Made by some optical company, I think Bushnell, anyhow that's why my double hit is small, It's a close copy to Nessmuk's, But I use it alot . It's not as powerful as my 17" Agdor or my S. F. A. but I can vhop and split with it by changing the bit handle, That's why I'm excited when I heard Council is comming out with a 2lbs'er , I just hope they will have atlrast a 17" handle. ,, .
