Same here. Mark max muscle said this was an embarrassment and so on, but it feels like you can only say that based on pictures. This video is fucking unbelievable. And as those who saw him in person say, you had to be there to fully grasp the greatness

He knows how to hide weak parts. Not a single pose showing a torn tricep. What a great champ.

The back development and detail in 97 is the freakiest thing I’ve ever seen in bodybuilding. He hid his problems well posing and his conditioning was so freaking amazing this year. King Dorian!

People are out of their mind to say he should not have won. Look at this body carved out of granite. He was so far ahead of the competition, nobody was going to beat him.

Exactly this was Dorian at his absolute most gigantic He's probably close to 300 lb up there I bet you he's at least 285 here and he clearly beat Nasser I don't know how anybody could look at Nasser's back and think that he could even compare to Dorian

He knew how to build the body and stay healthy and also build a great business . Nasser abused his body and he paid the price, dying very young .. He talked too much 💩 about people in the buisness ( check the stuffs he said about greg govacks on google) ...I am arab like him but I was never a fan , you gotta have the body and the character like Dorian, Lee Haney, Benaziza and others ) to succeed in this sport .

Such a unique bodybuilder, he actually looks like he's cut from granite...

In still photos of this Olympia I'm like "how the F did Dorian win?" But watching any decent video footage it's clear that he was still dominant from the back and even though this may have been his worst Olympia package, he still had the conditioning to win.

I agree, Nasser was bigger but Dorian was waaaaay better conditioned and harder. Dorian still deserved the win.

Nobody could beat that back and its conditioning. Even Jean Pierre couldnt do it. Dorian was off but harder than all lf them. He also added thickness to his chest and legs

If someone thinks Nasser was better he's insane. There will not be another Dorian in 1000 years. The shape of his body is just perfect! It could be damaged in many more ways and he would still look ..even better. It's just crazy. His legs are so massive but sexy and detailed at the same time, masculine. He looks like cut from the stone.

If you think Dorian had good shape to his muscles you're insane. Dude had the worst muscle bellies of a Mr Olympia besides Chris Dickerson. Even then I'd argue strictly muscle belly wise Chris was way better. There were only a few things Dorian had. One was a structure that allowed him to pack on ridiculous muscle and paper thin skin that allowed for extreme detail to show. He had some favourable attachment in his back and calves but that's it. Dude was terrible going muscle for muscle. Virtually everyone in the 90s beats him there.

hes left arm was all fucked up, incredible he managed to still compete and amazing posing always hiding the left arm and not staying very long on the mandatories that involved showing his left arm.

Many people consider this to be Dorians worst showing..injuries aside.. There are no current bodybuilders, even the current mr Olympia, who even come close to Dorians level of conditioning here. Got nothing but admiration for this bloke who even though was dealing with injuries still dug down deep and delivered this version on the day of the show. I think they give him the medal that year for having the biggest set of balls. Yeh i am a Dorian fan.

I think Dorian revealed his serious injuries only after the show. His fighter's heart is just ridiculously insane, maybe even insulted at the idea of winning out of pity.

He absolutely deserved to win..but i would have loved to see him as hard as the years before..bc he’s legs & upper body looked more massive than ever..it was crazy that he even made it to be on stage that year..he torn he’s triceps in the middle of he’s prep & had later internal bleeding and very low hemoglobin..after the triceps tear training he’s upper body was holding some (light) weights..and than winning Mr Olympia..very inspiring to me...💪🤘

Nobody in history can ever do a more impressive back double bicep. Each upper back muscle is incredibly thick and bulging out of its place

He tore his bicep in 94, in 97 he tore his tricep (same arm as the bicep) a few weeks before the Olympia.

In this video you can see why Dorian win, mega condition, cuts, definition, maybe is not his best shape but had for win the Olympia. Was unstoppable.

Levrone, Shawn Ray and others looked far better. He has a torn bicep on already ugly arms. He and Ronnie Coleman are the worst 2 Mr. Olympia ever. There are at least 8 people here who know nothing about bodybuilding. He looked horrible and had some of the worst arms ever.

There are many who feel Nasser beat Dorian that year based on a few lousy photographs. Yes Nasser was better in the front double biceps pose. But Dorian won six out of the seven compulsory poses. I always tell anyone who thinks Nasser won to watch this video.

I've debated a few who claim that the front double biceps is THE MOST important pose in all of bodybuilding and if you have bad or torn biceps you should never ever win. Yeah let's disregard all of the rounds and other mandatory poses, if you don't have the biceps I guess that's it. Hilarious stuff

I prefered Nasser's size and symmetrical midsection over Dorians but he was holding too much water, especially in his back. First place came down to better conditioning which Dorian clearly had.

Nasser also had no separation in his delts /arms from the side and…. Highly suspect biceps. (In later years the oil in Nassers delts & biceps was very obvious indeed). I liked Nasser but his flaws were too many (especially from the back) in my mind. I’m actually surprised he beat Kevin & Shawn Ray - they were much more complete. Kevin also beat Nasser in every Grand Prix show in the European tour in the following weeks…

Legs?put th pipe down son sthe back is more important thn the show muscles, yeah i know gym rats dont care much for back or calves but those bodyparts are what make for a complete phisique. with forearms which dorian had in spades nasser was dogshit from the side and back, you have to look at all poses equally yeah side tri or rear lat spread are just as important as front double bi or side chest.They might not be aesthetic poses but are equally important

His dryness has been matched. By Ronnie in 98 and in 01. It's Yates skin tone that really allows him to shine. His skin is also razor thin so that helps. Phil always brought a comparable level of conditioning in his prime. And was just as cut as Dorian.

@@samraizshoaib585 Wrong. Ronnie wasn't as dry as Yates in either 98 or 01. Close, but no cigar. ROnnie had thicker skin and certain type of skin that made him appear oily/watery.

Dorian actually entertain the audience. His routines were entertaining and easy on the eyes. The bodybuilders of today are hard to watch.

Yates is still the best. He clearly beats them all from the back and side. From the front he loses front double bi, but is still very comping the abs and thigh. Deserved to win no doubt.

I don't understand the negative comments about Yates here. He looks incredible. Coupled with the fact he has suffered career ending injuries and still competed is quite simply astonishing. His high intensity training was tearing his body apart but what an incredible bodybuilder. Massive, ripped and still a physique that flowed.

Superb bodybuilder so focus was he during his entire olympia reign. Never saw someone beating him in 1997. Only his obliques were bit of bursting out but rest was awesome. He is and will be shadow forever.

Only his biceps are not good but overall physic is just marvelous

I don’t care what people say about this year, no one matched his conditioning! Just cause nasser had better arms ,arms don’t win the contest, over all balance and conditioning does! 😉 Dorian looked insane!!!

@@BountyRogueCinemax no that's what happens when you know what the criteria is and how to judge a show. Ray had no business in at least 4 of the mandatory poses. Both of the lat spreads, side tricep and back double bi were Yates' poses no matter what. Torn bicep? sure. Torn tricep? sure. No arms at all, just photoshop them out? he still wins it. Shawn ray was too small to compete with yates and Nasser overall, let alone that year when Yates was 270 and Nasser was like 275-280 pounds.

I don't get it, where is the controversy here?he wasn't at his best but still huge and shredded Nasser definetely looked better in the front double biceps, side chest and abs & thigh. But Yates clearly won the side triceps, 2 back poses and front lat spread. The biceps, torn or not , is of zero relevance in a front or rear lat spread pose, and in the case of the side triceps, Dorian tore his left one, but even before the tear he always hit the pose using his right dominant arm. So the arm injuries didn't really affect the 4 mandatory poses which Dorian usually dominated. Yes the torn biceps is visible in the back double biceps, but Dorian's back and calves raped Nasser's. Weak arms is a smaller flaw than weak back in the rear double biceps, like it or not. So Yates still won fa and square. Nasser was phenomenal from the front but thin and shallow from the side, with no depth or thickness through the traps, lats and a small ribcage.From the back we really dont need to elaborate, he was everybody's bitch .And his condition was not as good when all the angles were taken into consideration. The crowd went nuts when Yates began hitting his trademark shots, so much for controversy

TOTALLY AGREE WITH WHAT YOU SAID. Sure he wasn't at his best, but his strong poses we're still his strong poses and his weak poses we're still the same. He still beat everyone from the back, front lat spread, side tricep and abs and thighs. it's not like his injuries hindered his strong poses.

bodybuilding contests are decided by mandatory poses not individual bodyparts he looked bad in certain poses but his usual great in others. Thing is most "fans" have this stupid impression that the show muscles- biceps, chest, abs are more important than back ,legs ,calvec etc, they are not.And as a result, poses which are regarded as "aesthetic" -Abs thigh, front double bi or side chest arent more important than say side triceps, back lat spread, front lat spread... simply put most fans dont understand the judging used, the criteria etc

I gotta say Dorian winning can be seen as a fair call. While not at his best he looked damn GOOD

for me Dorian is the best in all times

Notice how the audience goes crazy when Dorian turns around. I don't blame them, his back looks like its been chiseled out of granite.

The best, thickness, hard grainy look, conditioning, mindset

Dorian was an underrated poser. I put him up there with Zane in terms of making his movements look easy and effortless.

Adam Robinette I find it’s a shame to put someone who don’t even pose with grace as a Mister Olympia. At least Vince Taylor and Shawn Ray where there to keep the artistic bodybuilding alive

@@jordanbelougnejoly2074 Yates was a good poser. He showcased his strengths well and hid his weak parts. He was very quick and coordinated for a big guy too.

His back was just too good,thats why he won

I heard Yates had a tricep tear at this contest and it barely held in place by a string, prob a good surgical string but still a string. With the exception of his left arm(Bicep/tricep damage) and more of a belly than his earlier contests I think he looks damn good here!!! Super thick/wide back and massive as hell. For me it's a toss up between Dorian and Levrone, but I prefer Levrone's physique aesthetics wise

Two words: back and legs. Well deserved Mr Olympia

Dorian wasn't at his all time best here but he still deserved to win. However he was right to retire after this. His arm was gonna be permanently disfigured and he was also, so I've read, losing the motivation to keep repeating. But let's be honest. By this point he had nothing further to prove. He had beaten everyone in what is widely agreed to be the most competitive era ever seen in Bodybuilding history.

He deserved the win that night. Side tricep, front lat spread, back lat spread, and ab and thigh were unbeatable it just goes to show even at Dorians worst no one could have beaten him. In addition his conditioning was incredible. And just pause at 1:15 and tell me he didn't deserve the win 😂

And he got a stomache infection and was in hospital about 3 weeks out otherwise might have looked more solid

His back looked best here than ever

Everyone mentions dorians bicep and tricep injuries to his left arm, but it’s clear to see that he also has suffered smaller tears to both his bicep and tricep on his right arm by this stage.

Always at least one step ahead, would have beaten this year's Olympia winner hands down imo.

Unique man, not the best arms, chest, shoulders, legs and middle section and he still deserves to win in majority of poses.

Which part of his tricep did Dorian tear? It looks to me like he tore the outer head. Although it also looks like the meat of the tricep was affected too as evidenced by the gap between the end of his tricep and his elbow.
