FILM DESCRIPTION:
A team of space marines known as the Rapid Response Tactical Squad, led by Sarge (The Rock), is sent to a science facility on Mars after somebody reports a security breach. There, they learn that the alert came after a test subject, a mass murderer purposefully injected with alien DNA, broke free and began killing people. Dr. Grimm (Rosamund Pike), who is related to team member Reaper (Karl Urban), informs them all that the chromosome can mutate humans into monsters -- and is highly infectious.

Legit happened when I went to see this. It suddenly turned from popcorn crunching and paper rustling into a sports arena, every monster that came on screen everbody just went nuts. Filmmakers really really misunderstand the nostalgia and connection people have when they PLAY a game, where they have invested time and money into it and have become part of it.

Maybe it was intended as a little seed of doubt saying Karl Urban's character is having difficulty telling friend from foe. After all, by this point, he's a superhuman killing machine and has just fired a killshot at his own reflection - which is also pretty distorted upon closer inspection, I might add - in a kneejerk reaction. Who's to say he won't do the same to anyone else? Then again, I could be reading too much into it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

2000's was when CGI went through a major growth period. Especially mid 2000's, right around 2005 specifically. I remember seeing Episode III in theaters and thinking that we had finally arrived at CGI which looked completely real. Add to that King Kong (of that same year), and numerous other titles that came out around that time... You look back and realize those days were the defining moment of when CGI started to get really good. And some of it even looks better than today's stuff purely because the animators worked extra hard to get it as good as it was - today there is a greater reliance on the tech itself and it almost seems like there can be less time spent adding attention to detail.
