¡Gran video! ¿Cómo se llama la música de fondo?
She is such a great teacher and makes learning fun! Plus, she's absolutely adorable! 😄
Another word you could use to ask someone to repeat something, that sounds less rude than "que?", is "como?". And also of course in Mexican Spanish, the most common thing to say when you didn't hear or understand clearly what someone said, is "mande".

We usually say "¿cómo?" (meaning 'how?') to mean 'what?' (¿Qué?). You know, it's the short form for "¿cómo dices?" (which's better to translate as 'what do you say/mean?').

in any language, try to be.....specific. Try to focus on the key word you don't understand. In this case "Huaraches?" is all you need to say. "Huaraches?" with inflection in your voice. Or "no se Huaraches", or "Huaraches no es familiar"
I spend a lot of time in La Paz (Baja Sur) and, by far, the most common expression is "Mande?" That's my go-to expression when I didn't quite catch everything someone said.

When I was learning Spanish in college, my professor used to say “¿Repita?” if he didn’t understand what we said. We also learned “¿Cómo?”, which is what I saw in the textbook, “Poco a Poco”.
I'm the kid of Mexican immigrants who decided to work in a Mexican restaraunt to learn more Spanish. I understand a lot of it but needed more practice and exposure. I usually say my regular English "huh?" or "Que dijistes?" but I had no idea that "que?" was a bad thing to say... now I'm trying to figure out all the times I've said it at work lol

What about "Monde(Monda)"?
puedes decir ¿qué son los huaraches?
I remember a Spanish class many many years ago taught by a Cuban young lady and she taught us that qué sounds rude and is not polite and it is better to use cómo. I'm not sure if that is the way it is now but that has stayed with me all these years, 46 más o menos! So I always use cómo. Is this correct? I remember at that time, mid 70's, when I was in Mexico and tried to speak with a young and apparently a rich spoiled Mexican princess that she didn't understand my poor Spanish skills and kept saying qué in a rude way and looking at her friends and laughing. So qué still seems rude to me.

@yadiracamacho499

It depends on the country, I guess. I'm from Venezuela, and we say qué when we don't understand. It's informal, not rude. I guess in a more formal situation I might say perdón, cómo dijiste o puedes repetir, por favor. I had Asturians friends that said cuál instead of qué o cómo
Is Que Cosa common in other countries? I have heard it in Panama
@ulisesdiale4004
2 жыл бұрын
They could have asked that because they understood the action, but not the object. For example, if you said "me gusta correr/el helado" (I like running/ice-cream), if I get the first part ("me gusta") but I don't understand what you said afterwards, I would either ask "qué cosa (te gusta)?", and I'm not from Panama. Maybe it's something that they use to say, or maybe it was that kinda confusion, do you remember the context?
Frecuentemente uso ¨¿Como?¨ ¿Es aceptable?

@@paulisimafromspringspanish1762, Gracias! My dad made it up. Combination of Philip and Darlene.
I’m curious why you didn’t add the word “mandè”? It’s the most common I’ve heard.
I typed in “huaraches” on Google translate and it doesn’t have a translation. What does it mean?
Set a good example. My father would say, "do as I say not as I do" until a day I said, "if you want me what is set a good example!" It is pardon "me, excuse me or I did not hear what said please repeat it?" Not "what or uh?" You need to slow down at 72 speed is not as important as clarity.
I think I have a crush 😍 ... on I'm definitely going to learn ...paulisima. gracias
There are many ways to say 'sorry' and 'excuse me'. Which do I use if I, for example, bump into someone and want to apologize? I have been using 'perdóname,' is that correct? Are there other expressions I could use?
