My Méxican girlfriend and I went to Cancun. I'm English. I had no idea about the toilets and that was probably the biggest shock I had. Hahaha. My girlfriend found that hilarious 👀 Other than that, México was truly beautiful. I was fortunate to see many places on my visit. The people are so much kinder than here. I recommend anyone to visit there. I can't wait to go back! Though I don't miss the roads 😅

I think rule #7 is true anywhere in the world, not just Mexico. Foreigners are NOT allowed to disrespect whatever country they happen to be visiting, it's just a good idea not to trash your hosts or anything of theirs.

Muchas gracias por tu vídeo. I traveled to Mexico numerous times between 2004 and 2013, and made friends in Sonora and Veracruz. On my first tour the Mexican guide warned everyone in my tourist group as we stopped in Chiapas not to take photographs without first asking permission, and always expect a "no" from the adults, but the youngsters would probably be more agreeable to having their photos taken. Very wise advice, (as one very arrogant French man learned to his cost). And actually the children were friendly, happy and fascinated to see themselves on my digital camcorder screen. The older adults were extremely suspicious of having their photos taken, and nearly all refused. Understandable when you know their history. The same guide jokingly asked us to refrain from calling any senoritas "mi mango" if we did want to end up married to a local girl. Also the tap water in Cordoba, Veracruz is not potable, I was called "loco" by the locals when I attempted to drink tap water, but the discolouration and bits of cockroaches I saw in the tap water soon made me stop. Yes, I have used public toilets in Cordoba, that had signs about not flushing, but I was already aware of that as I was staying with a local family where the toilet paper was placed in a bin each day and then disposed as rubbish early each morning. Which was far different to my stays at the Fiesta Americana in Mexico City or the "All inclusive hotels" in Cancun. My favourite Mexican Cities are still Campeche and Merida, and the food in those places are delicious. I still struggle to hold a long conversations in Spanish, but that is because the natives speak "muy rapido", and my brain hits a brickwall sometimes in translating their words and slang. But I have made a lot of progress from those early trips. Keep up the good work.

¡Hola Paulisima! I have visited Mexico many times because of my interest in pre-columbian civilisations and societies such as Maya, Toltecs, Aztecs, Olmec, Mextica etc. I have met many wonderful people from Sonora in the North to Cancun in the South. I would not advise anyone to drink tap water in Cordoba, Veracruz. And yes, all public toilets and domestic toilets (except hotels) have buckets, and signs not to flush "papel de baño) or the house-owners will advise accordingly. Good video and sensible advice. My number one rule, always be respectful of local people and their rules and guidelines. Chiapas is a prime example, wonderful people, but if they say no to taking photographs or camcorder videos, just except the fact that you are a "guest" in their country and comply with their requests. Actually most young people will agree to photographs if asked politely.

That nationalist part was very true, dated a girl from Jalisco who was ready to die on that hill whenever criticism was levied at México

This is very common to me as we have an old septic tank with older pipes and we do not flush paper for this reason. Even in the US. 😊

My wife and I were in Chapala this January for 2 weeks. The owner of the AirBnB asked us to not put paper in the toilet. We also used bottled water while there. We loved the area and we're moving the at the beginning of May for at least 1 year.

Supongo que en muchos lugares sí se puede tomar el agua de la llave pero he vivido en Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí, Veracruz y Yucatán y en todos los lugares de México que yo conozco la gente tiene sus garrafones de agua rellenables y de allí toman agua. Ósea sí hay gente que toma agua de la llave pero no la mayoría y yo siempre entendía que era por cuestion de salud.

Solo por curiosidad, ¿se usan los bidés en México en absoluto? Compré uno un par de meses después de la pandemia debido a la escasez de papel higiénico en las tiendas. No puedo imaginar vivir sin uno ahora. Tengo planes de asistir a una escuela de español para extranjeros en Cuernavaca para mejorar mi español, pero tengo que esperar hasta que esta pandemia esté mejor controlada. Vives con una familia mientras estás allí, por lo que estás inmerso en el idioma las 24 horas del día. Puedo leer y escribir el idioma, pero tengo problemas para hablarlo.

Heard about the no toilet paper in toilets from a number of KZread channels. One of them was Wolters World.

If you are outside of the tourist areas, you may encounter Banos where there are no seats or flushing mechanisms. Usually, there will be a large container of water nearby with a small bucket. Scoop water and pour it into the toilet, and it will flush. The first time I ran into this, a little girl showed me what to do. And if something is confusing, ask for help. People are very kind.

It's funny, I live FT in an RV and most of us who live in RVs never put toilet paper in the toilet. We have a little covered garbage bin by the toilet. I've also seen that in the Philippines.

Recien, yo visite amigos mios cuales estaban en el monte y la costa de Costa Rica, donde no hay hoteles, sino a veces systemas de agua potable, pues no hay systemas sanitarias. Todos usan systemas de compuesto, y todas funcionan bien. (Yo conoci a un agricultor Cubano qien me deci que eso es tambien muy comun en Cuba.) Despues de un terremoto en Esmeraldas, cuando la ciudad mas cercanita a donde mis amigos fue casi destruido en total, mis amigos fueron pa ayudar la gente, y la cosa ma importante fue construir systemas sanitarios de compuesto, pa' que no usan mucha agua- solo para lavar los manos.

The first time I visited San Miguel, my landlady told me not to do it. The building is old & near Centro. Also, I lived on a large boat for some time& I did not flush the paper! Now, in my neighborhood in San Miguel, some people do and some people don’t. I have gotten in the habit, so I don’t!

Living in southeast Asia specifically in the Philippines and not throwing paper in the toilet bowl is very common in other terms those whose just crazy will definitely do that hahaha

En Venezuela, Colombia, México, Perú, Ecuador... Cuando bajes a Latinoamérica, no lo hagas.

I built our house in rural Pennsylvania which required a well and leach bed. Our home for 30 years we never flushed paper and never had a problem either. I think it should be a universal standard. No big deal.

yes the toilet paper in the bin is very common. after living in Asia, I became very use to this, but they also use bum guns/bidets, which is a marvelous invention that I wish existed everywhere!

It’s about twenty pesos per 1 USD. Divide the amount of pesos by half and move the decimal one place and you have the equivalent in USD.

So if I drink from a TAZA, am I drinking toilet water or tea?

I grew up in a Mexican household in the US and the 1st time I found out when people throw toilet paper in the bin is when I invited Mexican guest and after the party is over I see a lot of paper just throw on the side lleno de (tú sabes) 😂 because my family don't do that but now some of them do but I still don't even when I go to Mexico. I haven't been to Mexico in 6 years but hopefully I'll go this summer but obviously not to do some ridiculo things what you said lol

I was a teacher at a preschool which had many children who only spoke spanish. One little girl would always throw her t.p. into the trash can instead of down the toilet.

I've seen the TP thing right here in California. Plenty of Mexicans are here, and some are fresh off the boat. But in areas near dariies you see this sigh a lot. (not to mention the stink of those soiled papers produce) But the TP might get loose and float in the wind to where a cow will find it and eat it. Thus soiling her milk. Que lastima!

I get grossed out by someone leaving a brown mark on a public toilet bowl. Im not sure how I would survive a bucket of pooh stains... 🤮. A very useful tip, that way I now know I need to do all my toiletting before going out.

We can fly across the planet, we have rockets that go into space and we can EVEN increase the planets temperature with the cleanest running fossil fuel vehicles ever, but we can NOT create an adequate plumbing system to handle degradable toilet paper? We deserve to go the way of the dinosaurs! LOL

As a citizen from the United States, I apologize (on behalf of U.S. Americans) for the past and in advance for this behavior. Public peeing, vandalizing, language entitlement and unsolicited cultural/political critique are things that U.S. Americans do all of the time-inside and outside of the U.S. It seems silly to have to give this advice but it literally happens all of the time. I just know it. jajaja.
