@@RomaVilla yeah, I hear ya. Ambient temp can play a role too. I suppose on the bigger subs it makes more sense. I’ve always ran JL’s, usually w3’s (for the money they sound great, don’t require a ton of power, and will get loud if done right) so they don’t have a ton of resistance to move.

Break in is only really necessary for really big drivers, 1000W-2000W+ SPL drivers for sure makes a difference! As you said though, for most people on most setups it's not really necessary at all. :D Spot on!

In my opinion it's according to the need. If you have a competition coming up and you want to be as loud as possible and not blow up your sub then yeah, otherwise for the everyday guy who's just bumpin it ain't that necessary.

I'm a old head and has always tooken the time to let my subs break-in themselves. First few weeks to a month normally want play them higher than 30% volume. Next few weeks ( 2 or 3 ) I'll play them around 30 to 60% volume and after two months or a little shorter it's full send but !! I've never played my system at 100% try to stay around 90% volume. I've had some subs last over 10yrs with no issues 😎👍🏾💯

I truly believe this is the true reason so many think that beefy DC Audio subs are a waste of money. A good break in period could save a lot of their subs people lost by going full tilt on those subs too early.

It a lot of it has to do with the tuning as well... When you get clipping that's when you blow your subs.. I believe you should break in your subs... Get everything set first. Do the breaking period and then beat away... I've never had any problems...

@@korey420 A lot of these blown DC Audio sub stories come from guys that use tools to properly set their systems. There may be a few cases where they don't but the ones that do are the ones referred to! Those subs definitely need proper break in periods.

In my experience, break-in for suure helps. With a fresh install, my go-to move is setting the gains a little lower than where I want them for the first two weeks or so. Then I'll go back through and set the gains proper and feel it out, do 70-80% volume til I'm confident nothing bad will happen

I'm running one 10" sub in a bandpass. Its a Rockford Fosgate Punch (P1). I just kept the bass control knob at under half for a few days and after that I just played it however I wanted to. It cost $99 bucks. If I blew it up, I wouldn't have worried too much about it. Just would've learned my lesson and broke in the next one better.

It hasn't happened to me ever, but the fs does lower over time, which is the biggest benefit. Also something to think about is; are the tsp's correct from the factory in the 1st place, how they will change over time and howdoes that translate into the proper size box and tuning!?

How often do you hear of someone tearing a spider (or anything) from not "breaking in" a sub? I don't waste my time with it. Most the music I play is in the 20 to 32hz range so my suspension loosens up pretty quick. I'll "try" to take it easy on a sub at first and by take ot easy i mean no clipping. Ive been through alot of subs over the past 30+ years and ive never had an issue. If someone is that worried about it then they should go ahead and do it but I think its a waste of time.
