Sudden movements are the worst thing to do when face-to-face with a Cobra. Cody was 100% right. All Joe had to do was remain calm, don't move and let the Cobra go on it's way. Snakes only attack humans if they feel threatened. Beautiful creatures but hella scary.

Cobras have poor eyesight so if you make quick movement it will draw it's attention.

@Robert Smith Well, in that survival situation, you wouldn't have any eye protection on hand, and the risk of being bitten and not having access to a hospital, you'd die in a few hours from a bite. Better to let that Cobra go away, safer for both sides.

No Cody is just too much of a passive hippy. His dominant confidence that he knows everything makes you trust his instinct more. Dave was more fit of a survivalist than Cody was, as Cody complicates everything with his over the top beliefs to where he will risk certain things out of *consciousness about harming naturr because the great leaves in the trees said its bad to kill or eat this and "hunting is unnecessary and evil* to put it in plain terms, Cody is too much of a pussy to do what he needs to in a survival situation. He would rather starve than do something out of bad conscience. He would rather a rattlesnake crawl around their camp endangering them because he does not want to see that snake dead. He didnt make is super obvious but he didn't want joe killing the snake as that would be morally wrong to kill if it wasn't life or death. He needs to realize we are also animals and it is natural for animals to kill for food. He also needs to realize that insects are living beings just as much as animals so killing one is just as "morally wrong" just because we can't understand and see its way of expressing pain and agony doesn't make it better. He has too much sympathy for nature. He is delusional pretending that nature is all rainbows and butterflies. Its not nature is brutal and gore filled. It is a huge disconnect with reality. (BTW I am not AT ALL saying Joe isn't a bit ridiculous about this and not handling these situations well. Because he is not. But Cody is not this perfect survivalist that every survivalist should strive to be. If codys attitude was alot less confident, if Cody didn't go around acting like he was the only one who knew how to survive and belittling anybody else's ideas then we would probably all be making fun of how dainty and precious this "survivalist" was. I get it though, Cody definitely talks with an authority that makes you think he knows what he is talking about more than anybody else. And maybe he does know more. But knowledge doesn't always mean everything, because when it comes down to it its all about how you act based on that knowledge. And if everybody had the exact same knowledge. What they will do with that knowledge will be. Different 100% of the time. There's a million ways to survive. And it takes alot more than what you can get off of a book. It is a natural instinct. I have experienced a great example of it. In 8th grade my mom signed me up for football. I never did anything with football and knew nothing about it. Everyone else had been playing for years. I was better than most of the people who played for years and was definitely the best in my position by far, the same people who eat sleep and dream foot ball. Spend their lives thinking about football. I was put on varsity before I knew almost any plays. It wasn't about experience it was about my natural ability. (I really am not trying to brag, I hate football and never even finished the year before quitting so being good at it is not anything exciting) but the example shows my point perfect that what he knows and experienced means nothing if he shows he can't even have the guts to do what it takes to survive the best he can.

Yea right Canterbury would of been eating good that night. They should do a reunion show and put cody with matt and dave with joe and make it a 1 month survival show with the guys literally surviving for a month based on their know how. Would make for a pretty interesting show. I know dave has kept with survival and teaching because doesn't livebtoo far from me here in ohio.

to get a crab out of a bucket/trap/anything .....take a stick it something similar, stick it in the bucket and lift. the crab will almost surely grab it and if you pull slowly, it will get pissy and use both claws. then you got em. I'm not a survival expert.....I used to work on docks cleaning charter fishing boats and I've been crabbing a 'time or two'.

edit: they figured it out. I commented before finishing the clip. haha most commonly used tools for this: handle if is fishing next, fish 'whacker' (club usued to kill large fish before bringing them in board) and the hand of green deckhands and boat washers. 😂

I agree. An army cook would have more common sense than this guy. He's definitely no John Chapman. Bravery and recklessness are two different things but both can get you the credentials that Joe has. We're talking about a guy who was lucky to not die in his career from drinking a contaminated water source and was put in a hospital for two weeks.

Fun fact matches in the 40s were different than modern matches. They were able to be split in easily lit due to the Costick easily lit components in Old matches. When you watch old westerns and a guy lights his cigar with a match by running it across his pants or his boot. That's real because matches used to light very easily. Nowadays you almost need a whole match or 2 to even get a fire started lol.
