I like to remind my clients of their circle of control. How the three things they can control are their actions, thoughts and perceptions. When we stop wasting time looking for and worrying about the things outside our control, and more about how we react to them life becomes a lot easier to deal with.

The weather has been a metaphor for me lately about how I handle anxiety. My mother raised me to get over excited and over stimulated by these types of events like snowstorms and tornado watches. In turn I have become way too anxious about pretty much everything. I treated every event in life as an adrenaline rush which was kind of fun when I was young but now I’m just exhausted and overwhelmed by everything. I recently had an epiphany that I didn’t need to do this. A snowstorm was approaching and I started excitedly talking about it with an in law at an event. “How much snow would we get, how bad would the roads be etc”. And his wife just said basically “who cares it’ll happen and then it will be over”. And it sort of blew my mind and really stuck with me. And when I started having a melt down about some financial troubles recently with my aging mother, I realized it’s a snow storm. It’s going to come and do what it’s going to do and we’ll deal with it and then the snow will melt and we’ll move on with our lives. And will we even remember this particular snow storm a few years from now? Probably not. So it’s really just no big whoop and I should treat it like that. Things come and things go and you just roll with it, having the confidence that you can handle it.

Yes! I absolutely believe in that truck that slows you down. I have come apon car accidents thats I would have been in if that car in front of me didnt slow me down. Or I was trying to hurry and someone slows me down then theres a cop sitting there. That car saved me from a speeding ticket. Theres no need to be so stressed.

Totally agree with the weather topic. I run a window cleaning business and I can really get worked up about rain! Messes up the schedule big time! I try not to mention weather when booking appointments. Thanks for this!!!

I feel called out on the weather (in a good way). I was just saying the other day that I hate going out and walking in the wind. And I canceled my morning hike because I knew it would be muddy. I will know rethink of this as an opportunity. Love it. Thanks for that, Mel!

It is not so easy. For instance when the weather is bad months and months in a row, and yes, it can be if you live in Scotland, I blame myself for not doing enough to find a job in another country where the weather is nicer and allows for a lot more outdoor activities. Or, I don't mind traffic, I like to listen to the radio or think about something, but I know my boss won't be that understanding and this stressed me out!
