After our return, we should get right up to the net. Why? We can be the most offensive from the NVZ line. Sometimes our return may not be the best, and when playing against bangers, this could be a huge problem. Check out this video so that you can know exactly what to do after your return!

Can someone explain why Caden serves from the right and then moves to the left? Aren't they supposed to serve from the side they are in? Or was it the lady serve? I am confused :D

This is a strategy called "stacking." The goal is to get the stronger player (in mixed almost always the man) to be able to play with his forehand in the middle, since the forehand is usually a stronger shot and the middle is usually a busier area. The rules require that the serve takes place from alternating sides of the court, but there are no rules about where the other player stands or where the player end up after the serve. So, the server (Caden) serves from his legal position, then quickly moves to his stronger side. In the next point, he will serve from the left side and stay there, because that's where he wants to be anyway. You can do this on defense, too, but it's harder because it involves more running to get in position. Stacking is also useful when playing with one lefty and one righty to avoid the situation where both players have a backhand in the middle. If you want any of the pros play mixed doubles you can see lots of examples because they stack on essentially every point.

Yes, most amateur players need to work on their split step, as they never stop after their return.

@@BrionesPickleball Ah, I couldn't figure out the title either - thanks for the explanation. So Caden is the "banger" on his 3rd shot and his opponent running while receiving that ball is what we shouldn't allow bangers to do to us (cause us to do) - we should instead set up to receive the ball earlier. Got it - I can't argue with that!

@@BrionesPickleball that too. It looks like a cooperative serve, cooperative return then we are ready to start playing. The pickleball court is small and you’re not gonna see many aces or return winners in doubles but to me you CAN make your opponent hit a shot they might not like as much.

Players hit angles and DTL all the time, it’s about risk/reward. They all pick the right times to do it, and when they feel it’s strategically smart to do so

@@BrionesPickleballwhen you’re serving you have the ball in your hand. There’s no better time to try to gain an advantage than at that moment. Serve to the backhand, serve an angle, serve short, serve deep and loopy, use side spin/backspin. The nice thing is you can practice these things alone.

Great breakdown, This is close, but her return looks out to me. ball still climbing when Caden slams it. she is late to hitting it. The ball rolls up off her paddle and is climbing upward. Again, close. I'm just noticing not saying it should have been let go.

No split step, that should have been a routine volley. Playing to get to the line and not playing to receive the ball. Terrible reception skill for a pro.
