What do YOU think of this new Ruby?

Absolutely love it! I loved the DBD and I love the Ruby even more!
Been using the DBD 16mm for most of 2023, which I LOVE… but did snag a Ruby for the same reasons you mentioned here. I’m most looking forward to the extra spin as I like hard serving and 3rds where topspin dropping over the net or on approaching feet is my goal

I purchased one a few days ago. Delivery is scheduled 12/12/23. I had been considering the Double Black Diamond but the Ruby won me over. I prefer playing singles and the added, power - plus even better spin - without impacting control too much were major factors in my decision! Finally, I’m hoping Kevlar will be more durable when compared to Carbon fiber. 🙏🏾

I love it and am thankful to have FINALLY found my paddle (6 year player here, have tried pretty much every brand out there...) I bought it used from a FB page as it's sold out at 6.0, so i'm glad it was broken in a tiny bit. How long do you think it will last? Am banking on that Kevlar hopefully carrying me through the next 4-6 months playing 4-5 times a week..

Great review as always! A question about the lead tape. Since the Ruby has a great sweet spot and twist weight, what benefit and different feel did you get by adding the tape at 4&8? Thanks.
@BrionesPickleball
5 ай бұрын
To (almost) any paddle, you always get a larger sweet spot feeling and a more stable paddle.
I’ve had mine for 3+ weeks, still getting used to it, and it’s just starting to break in. Not quick at kitchen line, great spin, can play a bit more aggressive with topspin, backspin floats way to high. Great paddle, haven’t played with DBD yet.

Yeager prefers the Ruby over any paddle at the moment. The gearbox control Is a great paddle as well, but feels stiffer at contact and has a totally different feel. Spin and sweet spot on the Ruby is better compared to the GB. Ruby is an all court paddle, which can be great for anyone

Thanks for your reviews and Jordan's many helpful tutorial videos. I am trying to decide between the Scorpeus, CRBN 3X Power and the Ruby. I demoed and liked the DBD, but I like the Ruby better. However, felt like my hands were quicker with DBD. thoughts on the differences between the 3 paddles would be appreciated. Thanks, JW

My friend is a rep and got one a bit earlier. I have to say the grit feels like it has already worn off. Big difference from the centre to the edges. Even my DBD after 10 months feels like it has more grit on it than his Ruby. Paddle feels good though, but very hesitant due to wearing of paddle surface.

I have a general question, when choosing between a 14mm and 16mm paddle is it as simple as 14 for power 16 for control, or is there more to it? I have been playing with a 16mm but I am curious to see how a 14mm would feel
@wulymammoth
7 ай бұрын
No -- typically the 14mm is "poppier" which is the characteristic that describes velocity on deflective shots such as blocks, resets, and other shots without backswings such as flicks and maybe even roll volleys. To my knowledge, 16mm the majority appear to maintain more power due to the extra mass thrown into a ball with more backswing. The Selkirk Vanguard Power Air Invikta comes to mind as a tough to control paddle that seems to maintain its power with a thinner core. But I think your assumption about whether 16mm is typically has more control than a 14mm likely stands true.
@BrionesPickleball
7 ай бұрын
Generally, yes. Thinner core, the poppier it will feel, less plush, typically less feel.
For a new player still learning 1-2 would you recommend the Ruby or LUXX control air?

Luxx is spray grit. Will wear off in months. Ruby is Kevlar- durable and will last much longer.
@86309
4 ай бұрын
sort of , the texture on the Ruby ,like every other no spray on grit is a Peel ply sheet vacuumed bagged over the resin or "epoxy " which when cured , you peel off the fabric and then you are left with a thin layer of the epoxy /resin that took on the shape of the peel ply fabric. If you wear through this peel ply texture layer then and only then do you get to raw Kevlar (or carbon fiber in CF paddles.)@@erinsmith8702
