I love how the series can be enjoyed as a subversive comedy and then the last two episodes arrive with high doses of lore to put everything in perspective

I’ve shared this quite a bit but my personal theory for episode 5 is it’s about the creative process. The reference to the place on the map that’s “gone” is clay hill which was from the abandoned pilot episode (which there are a few leaks of online, if you’re curious to check them out). I believe that the fear of the creators that the show will become repetitive or lose its charm is reflected on the characters’ conflicting desires to stay at home or leave. I think the satnav telling them to go back is representative of peers telling the creators to return to their older ways - perhaps not moving to a tv network - and make the series from kickstarter. The fact that they end up in a junkyard might be the most literal with the creators’ fear that it might end up being garbage.

My theory is that season 2 will be clay hill, since they keep referencing it and it seems to be very thought through, so they teased it maybe as s2

@@burchtreearts5162 I wouldn’t be surprised if it was referenced more in s2 but I’d be quite surprised if they brought it back entirely because they completely scrapped the pilot with that plot line.

Definitely one layer.

I think this episode's mostly just an acknowledgement of the episodic storytelling of how everything always stays the same. The red guy's started to understand the loop of suffering they're forced to endure and just wants out, and you can tell he sounds particularly passionate when complaining about Grolton and Hovris always ending up back at the same place in every episode. The car finally gives him a chance to get everyone outside. Until eventually they go too far and end up in that junkyard. At which point, a literal narrator just ends the episode by basically saying 'and they all went back home'. There's no actual escape, because try as they might, they'll always be back home to start the next episode, like Grolton and Hovris, and so many other shows.

@@OnMyMindEntertainment poor red guy. You can even hear him sniffling/crying? (It's very low. I hadn't noticed until i saw a comment on the video saying this but it could also be shivering so idk) and trying to be positive when yellow guy starts asking where the community is in the junkyard. 😬

I like how the duck always refers to yellow guy as the family pet but in yellow guy’s dream the duck is the pet 😝

And Roy being a homeless “guy in the road “

This is one of my favourite episodes in all of DHMIS. I know no one is going to feel the need to read this essay, so I’ll keep it simple: Red Guy’s emotions are very thoroughly explained here. My theory is this: he remembers DHMIS 1-6, and is trying to prevent that from happening again. The first 2 episodes were built so he could either not see the problem or find a way to avoid it. Episode one: he’s given the title of ‘boss’, which gives him power over everyone else, something he’s never had, as shown in episode 6. Episode two: his friend dies, but is given the opportunity to replace him with a carbon copy, which he takes in order to bring his friend back. But episodes 3 and 4 are the turning point. Episode three: Red Guy meets his family. They’re all emotionless, like he was, and he sticks out like a sore thumb because he is happy. He’s angry because he remembers being booed off the stage, being called boring, and that his hopes, or *dreams* , meant nothing. Episode four: he’s getting angry. Not only does he swear at his friend in order to describe him, but he partakes in trying to murder his friends. The worm in his brain is repressing his inner anger, and it’s starting to leak out. And eventually, episode five. He breaks down. He knows everything is wrong and that he must get his friends out safely, because last time he left them to die in DHMIS 4. He wants out of the house because he wants his friends to be safe, from whoever’s pulling the strings. He claims “we’re so close” because he’s almost succeeded, but everything is falling apart. The emotion in his voice as he screams about how there must be something out there is heartbreaking, this monotone, emotionless red puppet is crying for help while his friends can’t understand why. And what was it all for? Nothing. Because the journey always ends up back at home. I know I said I’d keep it simple, but…I lied.

Fun fact! The town that the GPS says no longer exists was the setting of the original pilot of the DHMIS tv series, before the creators decided the concepts and premises of a town with a larger cast wasn't going to work as well as they wanted, and they shifted back to the episodic lesson format centred on the Trio.

All the episodes are definitely connected and they aren't random or anything. There's a lot in this episode that'll probably be explained in the last episode.

Can we appreciate how this guy doesn't drag it out with promotions, it's just the intro and then directly into the video

Oh, I love your commentary through it--in my head I was saying the same things, lol! This episode has so many moments, but my favorite is Duck's inventory in the junkyard. "One skull, one bit of filth, one unknown terrifying object, one bag of meat..."

Someone found that puppet car they ride in that junkyard recently, apparently the creators said there would be some prize to whomever found it though I'm not sure about the prize part. Just thought that was cool

Next episode is crazy, love it. So sad how short this series is but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

i can't be the only one who thinks yellow in the intro song of this episode is speaking about the brain friends, right? dream: he calls it a dream because he can't quite remember the events of the last episode clearly since everything is reset another me: shy imaginary older brother little lumpy one: the lump that he jumps when he jumps the lump windy middle one: yumpherdinker things that i don't know now: the fun he had with his brain friends and then it went away: warren destroying all of it

Get geared up for the next episode! It's crazy

This is one of my all time favourite episodes. So funny and so bizarre, with a serious layer of the mystery behind the truth of DHMIS being teased. The next episode doesn't back down from what's set up here, so can't wait to see what you think of that one.
