Don't Do Nothing - active bystander campaign about how to support someone with domestic abuse

This video is part of a campaign called “Don’t Do Nothing”, which encourages young people to think about how they can be an active bystander, to support someone, such as a friend, who may be experiencing harm.
The film highlights a toxic relationship - it shows a young woman experiencing domestic abuse, which includes coercive and controlling behaviour, and how a friend could offer support by checking if they’re ok and signposting them to where they can get professional support. Domestic abuse is when a current/ex partner or family member uses power to control a person. It can happen to anyone at any time. By learning the warning signs (which aren’t always visible) and where to get help, young people can feel able to support someone who is struggling with a relationship at home or at school/college.
The campaign is about being an active bystander, which is doing something that can help, but never putting yourself or anyone else in danger. Offer support to your friend, or tell an adult who could help, and in an emergency call the police.
The video is to encourage meaningful discussion in education settings to highlight the positive role an active bystander can have. Further resources and information for young people are available at www.dontdonothing.co.uk. You can also find a support website about domestic abuse.
