Dominions 5 | Zan's LA Ctis Tutorial

Ойындар

Beginner Recommendations for best early game:
Take Crocodile Dog with hardskin
Make sure you cast reanimate every turn
Prophet a black servant, or a mound king.
Incorporate poison slingers with your units.
Avoid barbarians/cavalry. Infantry battles are preferred.
Assassin Tips from Redvenge:
Assassins are their own little meta, with odd quirks. Each one plays differently as well.
For example, if you set your Empoisoner's script to: Animate Dead; Animate Skeleton; Tangle Vine then Attack Closest, this will delete 90% of Late Age indie leaders 90% of the time. If you do two Animate Dead in a row, he will go off script and cast something stupid. 10% of the time, the dead unit will be summoned in the wrong spot and the indie leader will thump your Empoisoner.
However, this script would probably be a loss against any prophet, in this situation, as they will spam Banishment then Smite. This is why I always prophet an Empoisoner. His script is usually Animate Dead; Smite +infinity then Cast Spells. As I usually take a pretender with high death, his Smite deletes any living target that fails an MR check. Pretty good assassin, really. (Commented in Bozmos2, 19-23) #dominions5 #dom5 #dominions #strategy #gaming #multiplayer #4X

I played these guys in multiplayer once. I ended up doing better than I expected - I relied very heavily on assassination to augment expansion (3 assassins + scout attacking can take most provinces), which worked alright. Midgame was as many chariots as I could raise backed up by skelly spam. Late game I just couldn't compete with the magic diversity, summons, and troops of other nations.

One potential use for the sacred serpents you summon from temples would be as soul vortex batteries. You would ideally want to get regen on them, somehow, but a few on guard commander would definitely let you spam out more skele-spam or banefire. Unfortunately your Tomb Wyrms are inanimate, so you cannot use them like MA Ermor can use their Lictors, which is a shame because Reforming Flesh is cheap and they have twice the HP (and they're very scalable).

Tomb Guard are very competitive in price with other LA heavy units. The problem with Tomb Guards is that they are hard to mass because your recruit everywhere casters are also sacred, so having a high dominion is very, very important for LA C'tis or you'll run into recruitment caps for casters and Tomb Guard. The reason LA C'tis is frowned on in the early game, is because very few players want to put up with the micro of using their amazing assassins. They just want easily scripted sacreds or casters without having to shuffle assassins and spend time early game researching Construction when they would rather just research Enchantment (or, in the case of LA C'tis, Alteration and Thaumaturgy). Late game they play like discount Ermor. You twiceborn all your Sauromancers (which will gain 10 more HP and undead traits). You recruit chaff units just to kill them in battle for your necromancer's aura to bring them back as useful units. Your Tomb Kings buff the crap out of your undead units (increased speed, attack and MR) which benefit your wight mages. Unleash rigor mortis, heat from hell, shadowblast and fatigue out your enemy casters and units while they are literally buried in undead. Late game you can even spam disintegrate, if your foes get froggy with super combatants.

I think the main thing I want to talk about here is actually the last paragraph if you don't mind. I strongly disagree with the notion of being a discount ermor. Personally, and I know that this is anti-meta, I think using twiceborn is a waste of resources. That's mainly due to my actual doctrine when I play this game which is planning around victory. I don't plan for my mages to die, and thus use the twiceborn effect. Even then, its 10D gems for...insurance? On a massable mage? I'm not too sure on that. I do use it in special cases, such as empowered mages or lucky randoms, but its rare. Again, this is a personal choice. Using Tomb Kings to do anything but reanimate I'll say is flat out wrong. You recruit a Lizard King and they have the same spells, but one costs 230g 4CP, and the other costs 23death gems and a mage turn. Outside an emergency thug, due to their high stats, I can't ever justify using a Tomb King on the field. Everything else you mentioned seemed fine up to disintegrate. This is more of a warning, because I thought the same as you. Without Lucid's casting ai mod, I can assure you that Sauromancers will cast GHOST GRIP over disintegrate almost exclusively. I tested spells, advance and spells, and scriptless and could not get my mages to cast disintegrate without first spending 80 combat rounds casting ghost grip, on a target with 200 fatigue already no less! I have not tested this at all with Lucid's mod, so I can't guarantee it solves the issue. Just want to warn you that my conclusion was that relying on offscript disintegrate is extremely unreliable. Note, I had farcaster on for these tests. I do not know if that affects the calculations for grip vs disintegrate, but it was my bless that game. As before, I love the differing viewpoints! I look forward to seeing more of them! Thank you!

@@ZanGames Thing is, you play heavily modded. Apparently, your opponents have troops with damage values in the 20's and protection in the 30's. With costs super low, so our experiences are going to differ wildly. The reason you twiceborn your mages is so they become undead so that mass crippling spells, like rigor mortis and heat from hell don't screw them over. Additionally, they get an extra 10 hp. With an undying bless, they can have even more. Banefire is evo 6 and if you can get that by turn 16, your mods are crazy out of balance, but that seems apparent when you insist so heavily on an awake expander when C'tiss needs scales and your assassins make expansion trivial (and thoroughly screw over most aggressive players who want to rush you early). Your valuation of the mages is also baffling, since you prioritize Sauromancers over the more research effective Keeper of the Tombs or Reborn. Here is the math: turn1 you buy a Reborn for 9 research, turn 2 you buy a second Reborn for 9 research for a total of 27 research over 2 turns. A Sauromancer gives you 0 research turn 1 and 15 turn 2 for a total of 15 research over 2 turns. 27 is higher than 15 and is your best bet early game. This is why scales is great for C'tis as you can afford to buy the cheaper, research efficient mages without seriously harming your over-all strategy with a lack of gold. I already mentioned that the Tomb Chariots have a serious weakness in HP. If you are not buffing them with Tomb Priests, any competent player with access to H2 priests will annihilate them, especially if paired with the H3 prophet. If your chariots were successful WITHOUT the Tomb King buffs, then I seriously question competency of your opponents. I assume you also play C'tis quite often, so you KNOW how powerful priests are against the undead. It boggles my mind that a seasoned C'tis player does not want Tomb Kings boosting the MR of his undead if he intends to use them en mass. Since skele spam is a well known C'tis strategy, H2 priest spam is the go-to counter and I use Tomb Kings so my undead are not immediately obliterated.

@@yugonostalgia8961 In my post, I mixed up Reborn and Keeper of Tombs, since Keepers are the cap only mage priest. Reborn are very cost effective researchers, but Zan stated there was no reason to recruit them. C'tiss is a scales nation. They need multiple forts early to capitalize on their recruit anywhere Sauromancers and Lizard Kings. A balance needs to be made between producing Reborn and Sauromancers. The capitol should be producing Empoisoners while your Forts produce everything else.

Yeah. I can still feel the salt from when I realized that chariots beat boars and you could get them immediately instead of paying stupid amounts for them. For anyone else reading this, bozmod nerfs freespawn, and boars get hit especially hard. They cost double the nature gems and were moved up a research level, in a hard research game, so it takes almost 4 times as much research to get them.
