I think this nation is pretty cool, but it's true the scars are weird. Basically, they work based on the candles in your capital province when you recruit your scarred guys. Nidbatheds (sacred unit) gain 50% scars of your candles (rounded up), and Nidherses (sacred commander) 100%. Example with 5 candles: you recruit 1 nidherse and 4 nidbatheds. The nidherse will get 5 scars (100% candles), the nibatheds 3 (50% candles rounded up). CAREFUL: they gain scars based on candles : on turn 1 they will have 1 scar because your capital still has 1 candle. How the scars seem to work: when the unit dies, a scar will be used instead (the unit will not die). Basically, scars are like more hp. You can then get a ton of afflictions because they will stack up and the unit didn't die. Again, example: a nidherse raided a province without magic items with 5 scars and lost 4 of them in the battle. He has 1 scar left. Because he lost so much hp (basically 40 or something) without dying, he probably has 2 or 3 afflictions. Hope it helped ! As for a bless, I tried a dormant freak lord with unbreakable, recuperation, blood bond and blood vengeance. I tanked the scales a bit and didn't use the scarred boys too much in the early game, but when he came online, DAMN. 60 of them took a throne with 400 guys on their own, it was pretty insane. they lost most of their scars but they surely are a hell of a problem.

you can cast howl on the bear mages without a thistle mace if you have 2 nature gems, one to boost +1 and the one for the spell cost. with strength of gia and strength of earth + gems you can boost up to e3n4.

Howl costs 3 gems to cast. Nature 2 can only use maximum of two gems in combat unless they have booster

I was going to try this nation first but not understanding the scars turned me off from them.
