Dominions 5 Nation Guide: EA Ermor

Ойындар

Few nations shape the dominions world the way Ermor does. They are one of the harbingers of human expansion and imperialism at the expense of the more mythical races.
They conquer and unite many of the young human nations, shaping the cultures of Pythium, Ulm, and Marignon among others.
And then they bring about the great curse, and a civil war that defines much of the Middle Age.
But that's in the future, and for now, EA Ermor gives you cost effective mages, effective communions, a respectable infantry and cavalry lineup supported by gladiators and assassins.
They're not overpowering, certainly, but if humanity needs champions (and in the EA, it does) they can stand up and do their part.
Apologies for a few places where I mangle the lore (I accidentally say Ermor conquers Arco, they don't, they just clearly dominate the region more than Arco does) and for any times I feel tired. It's be a big few weeks, but I hope you enjoy this one!
Thanks to my ever supportive patrons for backing this content.

EA Ermor is one of my "main" nations, here are some strategies I discovered: 1. None of your fort-only mages require a temple to recruit, so don't bother building them in the same provinces as forts. Only build temples where you want to make Pontifex's & Flamen. 2. The Lizard Auxiliary troops are efficient expanders for their cost, and can put most indies in the trash can. 3. EA Ermor has a gem cost reduction for the "Shroud of the Battle Saint" (Require Construction 4 and 5 Astral Pearls) which makes any mage wearing it blessed. Have your pretender craft a hammer, make these in bulk, and take a bless that helps your mages (Reinvigoration)! 4. Start your death gem income early by recruiting a Augur Elder before turn 12 and have him go site searching. You'll be glad you did when all your future Augur Elders can afford to cast "Twice Born". 5. Get more "life" out of your Gladiators and Retiarius by setting them on "Guard Commander". Any assassin or "Attack Rear" troops will get a nasty surprise. 6. Archbishops and Bishops of the Sacred Shroud can heal afflictions, which allows you to be more cavalier regarding astral spells like astral projection, astral window, and mind hunt. Feebleminded can be cured!

1: how to get dom killed by elves in any multiplayer game (they don't need to dom kill u really if they destory all ur temples u r gonna be sorry when someone elses dominion creeps in and starts raising unrest in all ur province and you get -1 morale bonus to every battle) 2.: they have lower map move, not worth it (not to mention cold blooded 5. sometimes valid. you can multi province expand on the 2nd turn with gladiators.

@@CantusTropus see parenthesis it's not really about getting dom killed so much as leaving all of your temples exposed to raiding. i would say ermor is somewhat of a scales ish nation, and lots of scales dont even work if you dont have dominion... not to mention, like I said, unrest from foreign dominion, and morale penalties. Also if have unforted labs on all of your temples.. once the enemy takes the province they can gateway in or teleport out, you have no idea what is gonna happen...

when you are talking about lore at the beginning, I feel it's with pointing out that Pythium is in many ways the continuation of Sauromatia, inheriting their swamps and hydra etc. This of course implies that Ermor also conquered Sauromatia.

I'm putting this in the comments for visibility because its a point of lore that i know people care about. MA Ermor fights Marignon and Scelaria. As people point out, Marignon basically burns itself out but destroys the ashen armies. After the war though, Scelaria are the ones that hold the Western Ermor Imperial mantle as far as i can see, and in Lemuria they carry Ermors legacy just that bit further a way Mari doesnt. There are no Consuls or lictors in Marignon, while in Scelaria they persist until the very dawn of the LA. So in saying the campus scelaris beats Ermor im not diminishing what Mari does, just focusing on the Ermor line itself, which i think runs though scelaria to lemuria.

FW Flamen can also get the skull of fire from augur elders and make a water bracelet--now you got runesmashers for your massive communions. Plus you now have acid paths for manifest vitriol or some other stuff--maybe bootstrap to staff of elemental mastery. Flamen also give access to air quills without using cap rec turns.

@@PerunAU You can see it in the weapon description; it has the "can only be used once in battle" line there. It is also used by Jomon's cavalry. It's because these units, unlike most with light lances, also have a sword. Oh and also, you might have missed it, but the worthy heroes gladiatrix's skill damage is armor negating, so basically every turn she attacks she will cause her victim to lose an eye, and force them to make an MR check or just die (that's what heart finding does). And because of the slave collar she can't be easily repelled. She's an incredible anti-thug/sc if you can keep her alive.

@@PerunAU Noor is correct, when you click on the light lance, the 2nd last line in the description says "This weapon can only be used once in each battle". This of course also means that equites can't repel the way most other light lance cavalry can.

Important bit that you missed when going over the various infantry is their mapmove. Principe is often a really nice unit for cost if you're mostly resource capped in recruitment, but being 16 instead of 18, it can't keep up with the rorarus / hastati / equite, when led by a centurion / legate. Not that all your armies will move at that speed, your mages cant either, but it gives alot more strategic flexibility when you can move more of your troops faster.

IMO you want earth/astral, and you probably want it on your god. Crystal matrix is your ticket to mass regen + relief + army of gold/lead in addition to national access to fog warriors, wailing winds. As a changeup play you can also do darkness or solar eclipse + fire elemental spam (maybe with spirit sight on sacreds). Probably give a bow to your flamen/etc so they can fire it after doing their big buffs, burn out the communion less. This also lets you make coins to get another astral booster, enough to get S random augur elders to mind hunt (which, as you point out, is less risky with true healers). Definitely recommend going heat over cold. Troops don't have snow move, murdering winter is earlier than flames from the sky, and you can put out a ton of fire elementals.

Good nation overview, thumbs up. I'd add 2 things... legionariesreanimators (though obviously Bone Tribe can do much more). 2. The 1 in 5 spread on the Flamen randoms can be frustrating. Being slow to recruit and requiring an unforted temple means you may not be site searching any or all of E/W/N for a very long time if you can't/don't pick those paths up someplace else.

You know for Ermor it makes sense for them to kick ass without divine intervention due to all the reasons covered in the video. I've always been curious about Abysia. In the lore they are super badass and beatdown multiple other nations. In gameplay they are very meh and some of the nations that they are supposed to "beatdown" are considered much higher tier.

Overall good analysis (excerpt for the misunderstanding of how the equite light lance works) I think I would rate EA ermor somewhat higher than you. I have not played them yet, but they have done quite well in most of the games I have seen them in, and I think I could easily win with them, especially in a game that don't have a ton of players, so that it is actually possible to win the game before late game. They are for sure not a bad nation for a mid game throne rush.

Personally I only ever use Principes if I'm resource capped but still have recruitment points. Most of the time Hastati are more economical. Maybe with both order and production scales Principes would be better, but I usually go order neutral as Ermor because production is way more important.
