Ea Ur is an interesting nation. In my humble opinion this is a horde nation with an expensive drug habit and never enough money :) Lemme know what you think!

The way the leadership works is that there are base leadership ratings and there's command bonuses. Base leadership ratings are 10/40/80/120/160 and have inherent morale bonuses/penalties (-1 for 10, improves by 1 per rank), access to formations (80+) and bonuses from xp. Command bonuses can be inherent to the unit or come from items or xp etc and are simply a raw value that's added to how many troops you can command, but it doesn't alter the leadership rating. Ur's old dudes have a rating of 10 and a command bonus of 70, making them able to command 80 troops but with all the other features of having a 10 leadership rating. Mekone's old dudes have the reverse; a base rating of 80 and like a -60 command bonus.

Ur is the nation you hope is your neighbour if you have cheap slingers. L3 is also great for transformation later, you need to reduce the upkeep of your shamans, and they're really the bread and butter of the nation

I love Ur. I wish their mages had better morale. Fortitude berserker bless and abuse physical resistance +moss body is my next noobish plan for Ur. I would love to play them scales but surviving in ea seems tough. I played them once in a blitz and got run over by scales ulm and scales Caelum.

A big thing to remember with both Ur and Uruk is their cheaper mages have bad moral. Stray arrows are likely to cause them to route. Edit: the big sacreds are great if you time the landing so they hit at the same time as troop blocks. The fear will insta rout a decent number of indy groups. Letting them run ahead is not a good idea since 16 gold is way better to lose than 150.

The Ensi mages can summon Naiad's and Naiad warriors without boosters which can help you get into the water. Ishib's can do it with a booster. I tend to find you have a lot of extra water gems with Ur and this might be the best way to spend them.

Once you have thaum 4, you can berserk mushushu so they don't need morale anchors and are easy to buff. While I agree broadly you want to buff large numbers, having a square that gets strength + enlarge + berserk + mossbody etc to kill thugs/SC is useful since it makes it a lot harder to cheese the horde army. The headhunters with that buff suite hit for 34 magic blunt damage once berserk even w/o gear. If you give them GSS, they can break physmoss even if it's on 30+ prot and will kill any SC that doesn't kill them first. 6 gem sacred summon is also a good candidate for anti-cheese buffing. Barely costs more than GSS, and you get 2 anti demon/undead units that can also just do 32 magic pierce with the buff script (and have the HP to attract it), plus the basic gore attack and whatever bless you put on them. Great for punching through sturdy crap, definitely agree don't build around them, just toss a couple in army as can openers. D2 bone reader with staff can break you into both D3 mage summon and spectral mages (which can roll astral, though you prefer sages for that). If you do have water provinces, kululu sages can get out of water with shambler skin, you don't need amulet of fish. 5 gems to use each is still not ideal though.

Only issue with making elemental spam your main army power is if you get gem baited then you're bleeding gems and your primary damage. Also you lose gems for important rituals and combat spells later as well as items later. Usually elemental spam is something you'd use on a big army or a fort you want dead, or if your nation is good at spamming big elementals of a specific kind like air for Caelum then it's more bread and butter.

@@TTHJJD100 I think you replied to wrong post lol. DarkSideCookies mentions it in another comment, my comment doesn't. Water elementals do hit things w/o ethereal or mist form really hard, and picking off a geared thug that doesn't resist trampling is definitely something you can do with a few A2 gudus, (costs a lot of air gems, but some people like their 80 gem heroes). But overall this nation wouldn't use them as a primary strat...excepting maybe water elementals under water. The niche use of "make 20-30 elementals with living X then cast rigor" is still on the table late game, but is again not something to build around.

My impression, dont play hoard and run at people with no magic. A single titan is gonna map the flor with your dudes. just put the 750 gold fort, dont upgrade them and play more normally. You have then fortified city of Mictlan witch means that you get +1 commander point at palisade level.

Maybe you just have a garrison of the castle bonus guys to repel sieges on your cap in case you get birded or elfed? Seems like you could create a little bit of gear and take your share of lakes. Also, is water, air, earth elemental spam into mass protection a thing? It seems like the aquatic stuff would be to keep a water nation out of a small lake that you've already expanded into. If you can't find an astral indy mage it seems like you need something to stop mind hunt spam. Losing those big nature mages like that seems like it would suck especially if it prevents you getting important buffs off. Wouldn't you want some lucky scales to get the bonus income and your national heroes, or does S10 get you around that later in the game?

@@MrThedumbbunny Yeah you basically get 2nd commander point sooner, for less gold, but have the downside of a fort with weaker walls. You don't really care about the admin bonus much given all the foreign rec, the forts are mostly to get national mages that require them and force at least some kind of effort/1 turn buffer on raiding/throne captures.
