Dolphins @Curio Bay | Petrified Forest | Slope Point - Full time family travel
Hey everyone in this video we finish the bottom of the Catlins, with an epic swim with Dolphins, and check out the last of the Catlins. We thought we'd spend about 10 min at the Petrified forest, but there was actually a lot to see and explore here which we really enjoyed.
Slope point. Not a lot here, but hey it's the bottom of Mainland New Zealand which is cool to tick off the list.

I think Jade is still buzzing about swimming with the Dolphins, I think her smile at the end of it showed how much she enjoyed it. We sure do live in a special part of the world, far from everything....
*what an amazing experience for everyone....well everyone except Toby I guess haha. That petrfied wood was pretty awesome*

Yea this was awesome. was so great you could just go out there on your own, no need for a tour operater or to go on a boat, just right there in the water for anyone who wants to go join the Dolphins, pretty special alright.
You timed that perfectly, the tides been in when we’ve been there so could get right down where you guys got to. What an awesome experience swimming with the dolphins.

Yea mate cool fun alright we were impressed with how many there were and just hang around all day
Awesome episode. I swam with the dolphins in Kaikoura and it was magical. They were everywhere and once I got over my panic attack it was so good.

@leopardsgowild Nice to meet you. Looked like fun. I am making it a stop on my trip around the South Island. I don't have a wetsuit, so it will be brisk. I'm thinking about buying a wake board in Auckland.
Love how your girls are always cartwheeling. My grand daughters do the same. Following not too far behind you.

Hey Shannon, yea there is a lot to do in the Area... Once we returned to the Caravan we realized the Catlins were done, and we all crashed a bit I think, was a very busy couple of weeks exploring the area, diving, and walking...
Wow your adventures are awesome. The photography is awesome as well Mike. We really enjoy what you and the family are doing and the places you visit. Brian and Anna from Kawerau

Yea our weather and temps can be all over the place aye, we can get snow in summer, or it be warm in winter... Normally winter doesn't get to warm... Being an Island out in the Pacific, depends which way the wind is blowing lol... Pretty stoked to swim with the dolphins and catch a couple of waves.

@@leopardsgowild ya bro, ur almost in Antarctica lol what ru doing 😜😉❤️✌️
Looks like you did really well covering a good chunk of the main spots in the area - good work! I remember being in the living forest on a really hot day and it was good to be in the shade. I specifically remember the gorgeous birdsong and the scent of manuka; I lay on the ground, looking up at the trees, and meditated for a wee while. I look forward to your next videos; I haven't done the chunk between the Catlins and Te Anau, and so am super keen to see what's there. Hope the good weather continues down there; Kāpiti just skipped Autumn I think - Bbrrrrrrr!!!

Hey there... Yea enjoyed the whole area through the Catlins. was great to get in the water with the Dolphins, pretty special... The area between Invercargill and Te Anau, is more remote it feels than the Catlins... We had bad weather, but I'm working on that video now... We got lots of snow down here earlier this week, I was up the Top of Mt Luxmore doing the Keplar, Yikes...

@@leopardsgowild Wow, the Kepler in the snow - good work! Great to read you did a 20k run - decent running that mate! I see you were sporting your Blue Lake Challenge jacket in the latest video; I'm doing it again this year, and have roped a bunch of mates in too. I'm going to have a crack at the run the forest, near Waikanae in 4 weeks; signed up for the half marathon so it'll be a decent challenge for me! 😕
Incredible with the dolphins in close! Great that they came in close on their own terms, and Toby eventually enjoyed them. Did you figure out what they were eating in the sand? We never saw the dolphins down there. Those rock trees are impressive. Some more great weather for the far south.

Yea it was pretty impressive I'm used to those types of things being a bit of a let down. I have no idea what they were doing in the sand it looked weird lol... Yea the weather is hit and miss aye... which is expected, nothing too outrageous.
That was pretty special with the dolphins. Poor Toby not c9nv8nced though eh!

lol, poor old Toby... He was pretty happy in the end, His sister was great at convincing him that it was a good idea to be out there with them.
We went to Curio Bay today but didn't see any dolphins. We are currently at Papatowai DOC Camp and have done Cathedral Caves, Tunnel Beach and all the other things you have already done! Off to Central Otago tomorrow :)

Bit late now, but there's some local guidelines about getting in the water 50m away from dolphin groups. Did you see these signs? Unfortunately a lot of people don't follow the rules and can spook the dolphins
@leopardsgowild

Definitely didn't see any signs, the dolphins definitely came to us took ages till they finally came over, very cool to have them come so close

@@leopardsgowild awesome, that's the way! Interesting you say that.. the population that uses Porpoise Bay is small and genetically distinct. The females often bring their calves into the bay, and so people targeting the dolphins could potentially stress them out at times
