Doing the ground mod on a Gottlieb System 80 or System 80A-game

Ойындар

In this video, I do the grounding modification on my Gottlieb Rack 'em Up. This mod will help to make Gottlieb System 80 and 80A games a lot more reliable. If you have a game of this series, it'd be wise to do the mod. You can find more information on this mod on www.flippers.com/gottlieb_ground_cures.html.

Hey mate. Was brought to your channel for this vid. Picked up a Gottlieb Rocky which has sat for decades and will need all of these mods doing. Thanks for the video👍. I’m sure I’ll have lots of questions when it comes to it!!!

Hey man, thanks for your message. Feel free to ask me any question. Rocky: very cool machine, congratulations! Should you ever want to sell it, contact me. I already own its cousin, Gottlieb Striker. Rebuilding that one right now. Prepare for System 80 to drive you nuts until all the problems have been really adressed. Still totally worth it though, if only for the uniqueness of these machines. Look out for a special on these rare early 80s pins on this channel soon. It will be called Stranger Pins.

Thanks for the video! Very helpful! And I'd rather buy a dirty machine and restore it than a clean machine!

Hello! perfect video! I would like to ask some questions about your sound panel from this machine. I have a Devil's Dare, And it has the same sound panel. It is an "export" version of this pinball to Europe, without the original sounds, and without speech. I would like to make a mod for it with a trigger voice mp3 modul. Can you send me the schematic of this sound panel? Or can you write me, how it is controlled? I just have the original Speech/sound board's documentation. So How is it control, which sound must be played from the eprom? Thanks for your help!

BALLEN VAN STALL, Why did old pinball games use AC coils AC solenoids and now use DC coils and DC solenoids? Any reasons why the pinball games power supplies only used ONE big filter cap rated 11,000uf to 30,000uf why use a very large cap? The switch matrix uses a PIA chip and the lamp matrix using a PIA chip but how does it know to choose a certain light sequence from the ROM chip? how does it know how to do this because there is multiple light sequences to choose from.

Hi Bill, those are some interesting questions! I'm afraid I don't have the answers for you. I'd try the Pinside forum to see if there's a technician and/or historian that can provide you with the answers.

InTheNameOfJustice If you take it out of the dryer as soon as the buzzer/bell goes off, and put it on a hanger it will be just fine! :-)

Do the mod yes, but never, never, never, sand down a trace on a circuit board. You'd be better off soldering the ground wire to one of the ground pins on one of the ICs than to attach a wire directly to the trace without any support. Further the trace on a circuit board is already very thin so sanding over one can easily loose you connectivity that you very much needed before you "sanded off" the protective coating.

Sure 10,000uf is enough.... 6800 + 6800 is 13,600uf so you should have used a 15,000uf one since that's the closest...

Yup, I am sure. 10,000 or max 12,000uf should be used. Any higher might cause strain on the rectifier. Well counted and nice eye-roll though. :)
