Dog Owners vs Cat Owners at a Vet Hospital

While this video is all in good fun, there are certainly common differences between dog and cat owners. And yes, it is certainly possible to be both! I know for a fact, because I am absolutely both. I’ll also say that most pet owners truly do go above and beyond for their pets, and maaaaaaaybe treat their pets better than most veterinarians do! ;-)

My main cat walked in a week before a hurricane was about to hit the coast and never left. Literally. Heard meowing outside, opened the door, and was like, oh, hi. She walked in. Acted like she'd always been there. I couldn't just kick her out with the storm coming, and by the time it was over, she wasn't going anywhere. Was like, welp, she lives here, now.

I have two cats and a dog. Cat 1: Pure bred Bengal lunatic. She talks constantly, will only eat Purina One dry cat food, spiders and mice. She is a high turbo maniac, or unconscious curled up fluff ball. She can hear my eyelids open in the morning and commences with yeowling until I get up and play. She will only poop in the litter box if it's filled with Walmart Special Kitty clumping cat litter; otherwise she poops NEXT to the litter box. Cat 2: Half Maine Coon, half rag doll. The heaviest fluff ball imaginable. Loves you like you're the sun and the moon, until he doesn't, and then he swats at your head through the stair rails and makes your forehead bleed. You NEVER see it coming. Sleeps 23 hours a day, eats anything that doesn't eat him first. Likes to drape his 25 lb tank shaped body across my neck when I'm trying to sleep; purrs like an outboard motor as I struggle to breathe. The dog: Rescued bag of random dog parts. Made of velcro and is attached to my leg if I am standing, attached to my lap if I am sitting. Eats anything that falls off the counter or the table, dead things in the yard, or his own poop. However, his meals must be a perfect slurry of kibble, wet dog food and warm water; brand doesn't matter, it's all about the texture. I am convinced that I have a mental disorder that makes me a slave to animals.

I had never experienced that before or heard of any other cat doing that 🤷‍♀️ And we do it because they are our furbabies & we love them. And they love us back just as fiercely as we do them. They -don't judge- accept us when we are "spicy disasters" just as we -are resigned- accept they're adorable neurotic life & health personal trainers & coaches 😉 They even have the studies to back up their qualifications- all that data about lower blood pressure & lower stress levels, improving depression, being used in treatments for ptsd & grief among many other things.... let's not forget physical activity 😁👍

I've had the Purina one problem with my cat, the people at the pet supply store told me it's because of the high grain and sugar content (probably from the corn), works just like with children, give them a ton of sugary stuff an they become addicted and don't eat normal stuff. Nestlé is just beeping Nestlé, animals are not safe from them. Happily I found a different dry food without grains but a lot of liver and the picky eater is ok with that

He will be worried on the way to the vet and initially try to escape the room if a door is open, but once the vet techs comes in, he let's them lift him up and pet him as much as they like, give him all this shots, take his temperature from his butt etc with 0 problems, not a cry, nor a scratch, not a flinch. 😂😂😂😂 Then when I have to continue caring for him at home, he's back to hiding from me. I always ask him why he doesnt wish to be cooperative when I'm trying to help just like the vets. Sigh I've come to the conlcusion he knows I'm not a pro vet so he doesnt accpet help from me.

It might be tricky to find the kind of toys they like and how they like to play, but once you do that, you have one well-behaved cat. The only time my cat ever wakes me up is when it’s time for breakfast, and then I just do that and go back to sleep.

So I bought a different flavor, they were all over it, until they were not. Figured I need to be smart and change things up once in a while, decided to buy another brand, they didn't like it. That's fine, I expected it, so I made that brand to be for my street feeding time. a few weeks later, I tried to give them another taste of that brand since they were yowling (they already ate, probably wanted food again), they ATE THAT THING UP! But honestly, I'll take those minor conveniences now. Two of my three cats went out and never returned and I missed having those conveniences.

As a cat owner can agree on the breed answer lol. But as for the rest, I specifically adopt cats who have been stuck at the shelter the longest. After caring for a 16 year old black love bug until he passed at 19 years old ( got sick and just... didn't recover. It was his time. ) I spent 3 years learning how to care for his diabetes, carefully managing his diet and ensuring at least 30 min of moderate activity a day, and giving him insulin twice a day. After that our next kitty was FIV positive, and you bet your ass my vet hears about every time she sneezes weird. Her brother, adopted a year later, is also FIV positive ( sought out specifically ). They do not go outside, period, so every home improvment in the last 2 years has been with the cats in mind to further enrich their world. I hope to keep them happy and healthy for a long time 😊

Grocery store cashier here. This fits. Dog owners are often snotty about keeping up with the joneses about breed. They proudly tell you how much they paid for their dog (often thousands of dollars). Their dogs are often more of a beloved status item then a beloved pet. They spend shitloads on dog food specialties like $40 bags of duck jerky for their dog or ultra expensive bakery made cookies for their dogs. Or those frozen ice cream treats just for dogs. Even poor senior folks spend all their money on crazy items for their dogs and then get themselves ramen noodles. I'm not saying this is true for all dog owners, there are some folks who truly have a wonderful dog buddy they love and care for without being hung up on the status or high maintenance trip. What I'm saying is most dog owners who go through my line are that way as portrayed in the video. Cat owners are laid back, and more practical in their spending practices and purchases. The only thing I hear different is the food situation....cat owners often have picky eaters. And cat owners not only adopt, but are proud to say they have rescues. They are good souls who often buy cat food to feed cats other than their own, such as feral cats in their neighborhood or to donate to the humane society. In 23 years of doing this work Ive never had a dog owner buy dog food for dogs other than their own or to donate.

This video reminded me of offering to watch a co-worker's two Huskies while she was on vacation. I had no clue what I was in for! Every morning and evening, both dogs were to be given an assortment of wholistic medicines which took me about 30 minutes to administer. I always gave the younger Husky his pills first since the older would sometimes resist. One morning the older was being a bit resistant so, we took a break. I happen to notice the younger poking his head into this space between the stove and wall. Thinking a ball rolled into the space, I check it out. I didn't see a ball, but I did find a pile of his pills! The little stinker was somehow saving them in his mouth and then spitting them all out in his "secret corner!" He was one smart dog!

The Russet Burbank, Pontiac, Ida Rose, Yukon Gold, Cal Red, Ruby Crescent, Russian Banana, Fingerling, Teton Russet, Purple Peruvian, Huckleberry Gold, Bintje, and multiple other varieties come from seed potatoes that have been selectively bred rather than bioengineered. If any of those taste like cardboard, it’s probably because you’re eating a processed, dehydrated version that comes from a box. Additionally, I’m not sure how bioengineering is going to affect the taste. The white russet was engineered to be tolerant to bruising and black spots as well as use less land and water over all. It means you have to boil, fry, or cook it a little longer, but the taste should be unaffected. I’d increase your prep time by about 5-10 minutes if you get a white russet.

Oi. People, please respect your vet. If you don't, find a different vet. Dog owner here: Me: Breed? Pure breed mutt. (Actually they tell me. Terrier mix. Yeah, close enough.) Me: Food? Cat poop if he can get it, but the same kibble he's gotten for 10 years that he still will do spins for when it's meal time. Me: Please use a muzzle for your safety. He's reactive to being held. (Yeah, I know it's because I'm a horrible dog companion.) Me: Let's make an appointment where he can be anesthetized and do everything that needs doing: exam, nail trim, butt squeeze, shots (if any). If he needs teeth cleaned, do that, too. Also cat owner...no instructions. She's good about being handled.

My dog’s name is Henry and he loves the vet. And they all love home. 😂 He happily goes over to get his vaccines and gives all the vets kisses. I used to be so worried about taking him to the vet but seeing everyone pop out and be like, “is that Henry?” While so happy to see him makes all the visits extra nice. Since he has so many it would suck if he was rowdy. He basically went almost once a month or more for a good chunk of time until we figured out he was allergic to most grass, trees, and plants; as well as several common ingredients in dog foods such as potatoes, flaxseed, etc and that was causing all his issues. 😢

Mostly because that was one of the times she was just being a brat, and being half Siamese 😩 She's got a lot of personality and a strong one at that. She's sweet & an amazing companion... but I now understand why all the guides & books I read said Siamese is not a "first time owner" breed, it's for not just experienced cat owners but those who know and are will to accept all that comes with them 😅

Lived with chronic kidney disease for the last five years of his life which meant a LOT of vet visits. He was pretty chill about these though and only needed sedated for serious things. I own both dogs and cats. I dunno what kind of dog owners this vet's been working with but those are not my answers. "What breed? I dunno, his adoption papers said shar pei/lab mix, his crate sheet said Shepard mix. Don't ask me which one is right.". "can I sedate him? If you think its necessary, go right ahead." "Activity level? Well, he gets turned loose in our front yard for about thirty minutes four or five times a day along with our other dogs and they play together " "And what diet does he get? Well, all our other dogs really like this one brand of lamb and rice kibble so once he eats his dish of puppy kibble, he'll go and chow down on whatever the other dogs haven't eaten." Also, IMO a goldendoodle is a mutt. Until and unless two mixed breeds can reliaby produce puppies with the exact same characteristics it is not it's own breed.

Okay, every time i mention my cat just randomly deciding she no longer likes the food we have her on, to the point where she guzzles and pukes large amounts of water, the vets always look at me like they never in their lives have heard of that happening. 😂 Even had one vet tell me to just not offer her an alternative, and eventually she would eat... I was like, 'uh, no... this will literally go on for weeks with her constantly puking water and picking at her food barely eating and losing a lot of weight if we don't change her to a food she will willingly eat...' She also recently was so sick, she could not keep even the tiniest amount of food or water down. Spent nearly $500 on testing, just to be told they could find nothing wrong with her. Amidst the testing, they tried her on a strong anti-nausea med, and told me to feed her anything just to get her eating again... She refused the chicken and treats they'd offered her while she was waiting to go back for x-rays, even after we got home... She had refused the chicken and rice with bone broth I had made for her, hoping to entice her to eat... And, of course, being the complete weirdo she is, she practically attacked us for, and did actually eat, some jalapeño cheeto puff things my boyfriend was eating. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ I was like, "YOU ARE SICK!! The LAST thing you need to be eating is that garbage!!" 😅 But, yeah... we didn't let her have too much of that at all... and she's healthy again... still have zero answers as to what made her so sick. All I know is that it's sickening to have to spend that much money to find there is absolutely nothing determinably wrong with your pet... Their next step was a $700 to $1000 ultrasound... I was devastated when they told me, because, by that time, my finances were drained.

So accurate!😂 That's how I was with previous cats anyway. My current two have needed more knowledge than usual. One is allergic to corn, the other to chicken. They intentionally share food with each other so there's no chance to feed them separately. I also know through observation and watching them grow that one cat is half Abyssinian and the other some percent Maine Coon. Of course, if I had known that about either before adopting I may have chosen other cats. Finally, both have learning disabilities. One has a short term memory problem that presents like ADHD but has allowed him to keep learning (albeit very slowly) well past the normal 2 year cutoff. The other has very poor spacial reasoning and communication skills that combined lead to the issues like with a non-verbal toddler (ie sharing, taking turns, handling emotions).
