I get boys try and tell me they would rater pay 20 pounds a day ticket to sit at over stocked over fished and way over fedd carp ponds and then the bait they need i ihave eeven seen people using bait boats to cast 100 yards to the otherside of the pond to fish the swim oppasite "LOL" if you want to fish there but cant cast that far "LOL" just go and sit at the swim you want to fish and fish the tip of your rod "LOL" Then you get the 20 year olds that have been carp fishing all there lifes, so they know all the best rigs and baits but cant afford to get a mebership to actualy go and fish for some decant carp. They think that carp have always been in our ponds, like they are. the younger carpies are like flat earthers "LOL" they know everything there is to know about 6 million difrent rigs, but still blank everytime they go to an over stocked pond, thats been over fed! i seen people chuck 20kg of food in a pond that i could have spat to the other side of :-( to be fair it was a large garden pond with hundreds of fish in it but 20kg of food went in that pond every 15 minuets on bait boats they do this most days and cant work out why the fish are never intrested "LOL" the fish have so much chice in the pond it would take them a year before they randomly picked a hook biat up "LOL" they sit chucking ground bait and bollies out 20k a time 10 people on a pond a time doing this every day that pond must have a foot of free food on the bottom of it wasnt lttle and offten it was as much as they could pile on the boat at a time every 20 mins "LOL" and then they sat and blamed the rigs and baits when they blanked "PMSL" and guess what they went home and ordered a ton of difrent baits to throw in the next time. Tell them to make a hair rig put a cube of chees on it or a strawberrie and they look at you like you dumb "LOL"

That is my experience as well. I tested it the other way round. If I found a good spot where I catched fish regularly, i switched the bait after every fish. Pink mainline sweet 10mm pop up, selfmade sinking 40mm boilies, dipped fake corn, even some old baits almost 15 years ago. Just wanted to test them. it made no difference at all. I catched fish on all baits. It is like you said, the spot and the time is the important combination. Some bait should just be there. In best case a natural one, but obviously most carp do not care :) But since most carp angler need a moving truck for there equipment, it is easier to just switch the bait than the spot. Probably that would take another day and the carps already moved again ^^

Glad somebody finally said it. Im as US angler, never fished the UK, and it doesnt matter even a little bit here for sure. Hilarious to me that an angler in the UK can catch a carp on a piece of black foam on a zig rig, then suggest that a particular brand of pop-up with 3 different liquid flavorings concocted together is the only thing that will get a bite.

My local Carp water catch reports don't even mention the size of the fish first, that honour is given to which flavour of boilie it was caught on. "Taken on a purple heart..." "Joe Bloggs managed to bag this Carp on a purple heart, it weighed..." It's so important to the other anglers and they genuinely believe using the same bait will get them results. This video is so true.

I watch lots of fishing videos, always looking to learn. Im from New Zealand we have free trout fishing here and great sea fishing. With lure fishing colour is important on the day, it changes according to light conditions and what they are eating. However fish are colour blind, they have no red/green opsins. But some days a colour will work but next day that colour wont get a hit but a different one will. Thanks for the interesting video

This is exactly why I put bait out when fishing in the winter. Everyone is using single hookbaits, meaning the carp are used to every bit of food they come across usually makes them get caught. Also people say that in winter high attracts are the best. It doesn’t make a difference, at least on my waters. I had my first 2 20lbers in December 2020. I caught a 20lb 11oz common on a sticky baits Manilla dumbbell wafter soaked in garlic goo, over around 4 big spombs of whole 12mm Manilla. The next night I had my pb mirror of 23lb 15oz again on a Manilla dumbbell wafter but with no extra flavour. I completely agree with, it’s where you put the bait that makes a difference

The only time I think colour matters is when I’m making the hook bait blend in with the ground bait. This has worked really effectively for me when I’ve got something like bread in a method feeder and put a small white pop up boilie as my hook bait. I think a lot of the time rig placement on the right day is all that matters.

I would agree with most of the said things unlike the Fluo-PopUps. Those CAN make a huge difference which is in my Opinion and Experiance espacially the case under bad conditions. But i have definetely a hate/love relationship with them because with much use of them, the fish will know which one they shouldnt take (only bad experiance due to no free fluo offerings to eat). I really like that you let Opinions like this out in the big world of fashion and attention. Very refreshing.

Iv been using the same baits for over 40 years, iv never even touched a boilie in my life, as for zigs chods ronnys ha ha ha ha ha what..?? iv been fishing 45 years, iv caught carp up to 41lb ..... iv only ever used maggot, sweetcorn, worms, bread, luncheon meat, other meats, dog biscuits, as for groundbait I make my own 50/50 white and brown bread crumb, with some ground pond pellets the cheapest money can buy, on a 25% mix with the crumb, I have tried some dip flavours for novelty, but it's made no difference to me really, iv used hair rigs and regularly do, but for me direct bait on hook, trying to mimic a natural food source. Quality line, quality hooks, I even sometimes use a rod that 35 years old, that during the summer for floating bread crust is amazing. It's nice to have the name on the gear, but it's pointless really the fish don't care what you spend or the logo of the makers name plate, I'm still using a 25 year old bivvy and none of my equipment is this space age wizardary..... I have sat at lakes and rivers and seen these show offs turn up for a couple of nights, with their £1000 rods £1500 bivvy stations with a kitchen 😂 .... all the gear and no idea..... and 4 of them kitted identical and in 60 hours they had 1 x 8lb mirror. They all had 3 rods each 12 in total to my 2. They was using boilies and different rigs ha ha ha ha I was having a great time several teens and 20s and a 33 all on corn bread worm in the same 60 ish hours 😂😂😂😂 ..... I might be old,,,, and my equipment stoneage, and my method antique, but everyone else being modern, and me being old-school seems like my way is far less complicated and scary. I also think because I fish like the old days, my style is perhaps forgotten by the old fish, and completely unknown to many fish. Camouflage the tackle and offer a natural choice. It works for me, and because it ain't broke.... I ain't gonna try to fix it, taught to me as a kid, never forgotten always works. Happy fishing for 2021.

I have used the same home made method bait for years,, costs pennies and freezes well, (I am a day at a time angler) I make a builders bucket full, separate it into sandwich boxes for the freezer. I also only use maggot, worm , or my secret ingredient on the hair or hook but have caught just every breed of fish this way. I am no specialist I fish for anything large, and have only been fishing a short while,, 67 years to be precise! And I agree with you,the smaller fish draw the attention to the larger ones and they bully in and hoover up! Carp do prefer colours that is 100% FACT! a few years ago on a very well stocked lake that had clear water i could see loads of carp in the margins, I had with me two different colours of boiles but the same flavour so 1st put some Yellow ones in and they ignored them, 10mins later i put some white ones in and immediately they started to compete with each other for the white boiles.

They do have a preference. Its been proven on underwater footage. A mate and I were doing a day session on a small water and we had nothing all day. I switched to bright pink popup and caught instantly. Then he did the same and caught within 10 mins. After that we hammered it for the rest of session. It could be that the carp just moved in the area coincidentally, but it was a well stocked day ticket water in spring. Yes there is a lot of snake oil when it comes to bait, but to completely reject any notion that carp have preference is the ramblings of a fixed, old fashioned mindset.

We are attracted by the packaging, the colours, the shapes, the smells, and even the brand labels. And yet, carp don’t see like we do, they don’t smell like we do, and they don’t taste like we do. And they certainly don’t know who Nash is, or Mainline, etc. And yet us carpers are pawing over our favourite label bait stands, having our own feeding frenzy.......lol! But having said all of that, confidence is a massive factor in any sport. If you are not confident, your results will always be poor. So always fish what your confident in. Personally, I have been on the same bait for 5 years now, and have no plans to change.

You just have to watch this with subtitles on !! It’s feckin’ hilarious. Who knew carp had a ‘mafe’ Not a follower of fashion !! I never heard a fellah who was more obsessed with a fishing trend. Stick with what works he says - I haven’t moved on from Sunblest or lobworms 🤣 on a size 2 hook anchored with two swan shot on a dropper. Never even seen a boilie out of a packet.

I think its a subject that will always divide opinion. Me personally i think the colour can make a big difference, especially washed out pastel coloured baits as for me it resembles a bait that has been in the water for a long time and the carp are more likely to pick it up

Are zigs worth a go near the edge or Reed line or a no fishing bank that can be cast too but not fished on ??? seems to me like zigs are 80/90 % are cast out in the lake a decent way would it be worth a go near margins ? 🤔 top vid chilly

ive found over 20 year of carp fishing margins produce the bigger fish for me, but i never had 1 on a zig in margin but most of them are pretty shallow where ive fished, had loads on standard blowback rig with a popup 1inch max of bottom. i think when they are patrolling margins they are on the bottom most of the time but on a reed bed/trees/bushes etc they should feel more safe and come higher up very close in or behind the reeds but i feel they will feed more on the bottom. as tight up as you can get, watch this video it learns u alot kzread.info/dash/bejne/k3hslcqFmcuadbQ.html

The best bait I have used by far is the good old common lob worm. Nothing has ever come close to it. Ground bait, cooked hemp with small trout pellet and bread crumb. You just don't need all this fancy stuff but the companies that produce it need you to buy it.

I like to use a horse feed called baileys number 1 for ground bait bulk. £9 for 20KG. Lasts me a summer season (I get out 5 times a month in the summer if I’m lucky). There’s a channel called TA Fishing who suggested it. Loads of tips on there.

maybe a bright or contrasting bait ie white on dark background causes a carp to notice a bait it may otherwise have passed by particularly using just single hookbaits ( no free offerings) carp can definitely see you in the same way ie wearing bright white t shirt stalking with green backdrop, would have thought Chilly would have noticed this...

Some very interesting thoughts there but you do find that any carp angler thats been at it a good 20 years or so have the same sort of views where a lot of anglers join the carp bandwagon because of the influence of certain tackle companies and social media the one beginning with K is one of the worst.I personally have caught a most of my fish here and abroad on no flavoured and bland coloured bait which obviously has no signature to it,so glugs dips i think are un necessary, most of the time.If you want a decent read or watch look up a guy called Tim Richardson who really does make very interesting thoughts on bait.

Ive had this problem with customers ( I'm a bait maker ) had one fellow insisting that the carp will take nothing but white pop ups. Just so happened i had sold out of white so said just give it a try any colour and i guarantee you will catch if you fish the same way you do ( he was catching a fair few ) he ended up buying red and was sure he would blank.... well you now know what colour everyone on that lake has charged to now don't you? Red 😂
