Have used a bushnell for over 10 years and wife and I love it. We also know yardage with each club. We are now on the lookout for a newer bushnell. We have used other products but found the bushnell to be the best. My opinion.

Had a Garmin S2 golf watch, it was okay, but got a laser and improved proximity to pin. It was nice to know exact yardage. Then went out one morning with just the laser, but it was foggy; no go! So now I have both.

Very handy gadget for amateurs,especially if you have eyesight problems. I am going blind in one eye & have no depth perception - couldn't play without it. It also helps to have a very good idea as to how far you actually hit each of your clubs - unfortunately, a lot of people don't.

I have Arccos, but I still use the rangefinder quite a bit, especially on deep greens/uphill greens where you can't really tell where the pin is. Also I can't really see that well anymore! 😝

That rangefinder looks like a Leica Camera! Like that it is rechargeable too! My rangefinder is one I got from Costco for $140 and it does the job just fine! I don't get the need to spend huge money on a name brand when some of these cheaper ones are so nice!

Great vid guys, I have a Garmin GPS watch and the yardage is never accurate so I have decided to get a range finder instead, so which one do you think?

I dropped 3 shots when I bought my laser range finder (nikkon). I think it helped me commit to shots as much as anything. I know want to buy shotscope V3 to collect stats. I'm currently 16-17 HP I think I can take 5 shots off by building stats and getting to know my miss. Also the range finder doesn't tell you if the flag is at the front or back of the green which would be nice to know when going up hill. Some courses don't have different colour flags for front, middle or back.

Really like the rechargeable feature, could make me rethink my Bushnell Phantom GPS

@@dr6124 I was thinking about a swap because I thonk that I might be able to not only get more precise numbers to specific targets, but also be able ti shoot distances to hazards as well as pins. The fact that it is recargeable just makes it more attractive in that I dont have to spend $10 for a battery replacement 4 to 6 times a year as I play 3 to 4 times a week and my previous Laser seemed to go through batteries about every 70 days or so.

I use a Garmin GPS watch but having the slope indication would an added bonus.

That third green always used to scare the living daylights out of me with the slope. I used a laser for the first time yesterday and found it really useful , it is an Aofar GX3n at around £100.

These gadgets and watches are all very good as long as you know how far you consistently hit each club. The best way to play better golf is to do proper practice from 150 yards in, then it makes sense to use the gadgets.

James, In Canada at least, the understanding is that the greens keeper moves the Tees forward and back the same amount that they move the pin or as close as they can so the yardage stays the same. Happy Maple Syrup Day to you

Given how short your tee shots were on that par 3, maybe Gaz's distance estimate was spot on......

Can you do a video on golf shoes, mainly about spikes vs non spikes, when to use which etc..

You got to calibrate how far you hit your clubs before a rangefinder is really useful. I just ordered one for €64.

I had a GPS type and was having to update software and courses. Eventually it was out of date. I went range finder as it was change battery and point.

Apparently they do one for Golden Arches !! It's red hot from 3mile away !!

Interested to know how good the range finder is when the light gets poor. Currently used a bushnell V3 but heard the newer ones have better optics to deal with low light twilight games. How are the optics in low light conditions? I use my V3 more than my GPS watch.

Hi James. I'm currently looking for a solid budget rangefinder. Have you tried the blue tees series 3 max yet? Up until recently I have had my eye on the fine caddie upl100 you have in this video but I haven't yet been able to try one out myself. I have tried the blue tees unit and like the auto ambient feature of the series 3 max. What are your thoughts on it? Given that the blue tees unit is battery powered and nearly $100 more would you say its worth the extra expense? Or would you recommend the fine caddie unit?

I have an easygreen 1300 which has all the same features as the one tested and all for £150. Well worth the money 💰

I use the aofar gx2s from Amazon, great bit of kit and less than 100 quid really takes the stress out of guessing yardages so you can concentrate more on your shot.

I use my rangefinder to help figure out my distances, and use it for everything except I use gps on holes over the hill (blind shots) but it can tell how far to the top of the hill. I think a range finder can knock 5 shots off a round for me.

As I don’t play enough I’m not sure a range finder is for me. Use the apps on my phone. But looking at the one you’ve shown I like it and it’s cheaper than most. ⛳️⛳️ So I’ve just been on Amazon. Erm bought it lol 😂

How accurate is this rangefinder to your Bushnell? Are you giving up anything for the lower price point? I liked Gaz's comment about using it to find the distance I hit my clubs. But being new to this, there is not enough consistency in my swing to say with high confidence that I hit my 7-iron 'x' yards. But with time that will come!

I’ve got a range finder but I must admit the guessing is part of the fun.....

I will not play without my range finder. Knowing your distances and gapping your clubs correctly is also imperative. YES to rangefinders they are a must.

I use a harming s20 watch I find it has really helped me.... so not sure if to purchase a range finder will improve me ... 🤔

Laser range finders must be vital because I've had 4 of them. Broke 1 (dropped on cart path) and lost 2. I refer to my current device as the most expensive one to be had.

You saying about having to laser your balls at the driving range makes me realise how lucky we are in Cardiff to have a range with Toptracer...

Range finders are getting common on golf carts on this side of the pond. Yes, I like to ride.

how do the yardages compare versus your premium range finder? take both on the course and compare....

You definitely need to know distance 🏌🏻‍♂️ I would definitely think of getting that laser just because the price isn’t bad! I use an App for distance and score card. But it may be more accurate with laser.

In the right hands a range finder is brilliant a must in the bag , For a high handicap I’d say not essential

The fact that this is chargeable makes that thing a win. I hate having to have extra batteries.

The range finders look very good, however, I played (and lost) a Matchplay round yesterday, my opponent had a range finder but kept asking me what my Garmin watch was saying, so not sure if they are really worth having, my watch gives me back middle and front distances, will record scores and clubs used, distance to front and back of hazards, can move flag if you are good enough to worry about that sort of thing, so, I think I’ll stick with the watch. (Only thing is one of our par 4’s is being remodelled and is currently played as a par 3, Garmin haven’t got this info so every time I get a bogey, it thinks I have made par, which is ok by me😂😂

Love the banter. Can tell you guys are like brothers. Never had a range finder, would it help, yes. For the game I play where I'm just out having fun...Could help, but I wonder if I would even remember to use it. Question: How does that range finder work compared to some of the free apps on your phone?

I bought a Garmin Z80 and love it. I only use tournament mode because I practice like I play. Having the distances on screen in a split second speeds up play and adds a lot of confidence. It's helped my game and added to the enjoyment.

As far as I know, there's no shop in the UK yet. From this week, they sell UPL100 with $20 discount coupon on Amazon.

Only problem $199 plus $55 shipping plus taxes into UK pushes the price up nearly Bushnell prices.

Has the rule about a distance measuring devices with a possible slope operation being forbidden in competitions been changed? Obviously the slope operation can be switched off, but I thought the rule was that such a device cannot be used in competitions even with the slope operation switched off, just to avoid any possible discussion about slope measuring devices.

Just found the answer to my own question. Here's a question and answer from the R&A site concerning the rules applied since 2019. "Q. What kind of distance-measuring devices are allowed by Rule 4.3a(1)? A GPS, laser, smart phone, any really - provided the device meets certain guidelines and recommendations. The important thing to remember is that the device must only be used to access and measure permitted information. The player would be in breach of the Rules if the device is used to access prohibited information, such as elevation changes and club recommendation features. Even if a device has the ability to provide information that is prohibited, a player is still only in breach of Rule 4.3a(1) if he or she uses the device to access the prohibited information."

The best way to answer this question really is if you don’t know how far your clubs carry range finder won’t help - and in fairness you need to learn how to gauge the distance - imagine being in a comp and your allowed device dies? Can’t ask a playing partner it’s a breach of the rules - now you have to guess - learn to play the game without the device - that for me is how you lower your scores - anything inside 100 should be feel but we all play different I guess 😊

Giving yardage information is not against the rules.You are giving information. Giving advice on how to play the shot or the club to use is against the rules.

I’m starting to think a rangefinder actually has hurted my game. I’m getting to flag focused where before I just had front middle back and I aim for fatter parts of the green instead of a narrow focus on a yardage

I use a gps because my club has more hills than the Himalayas can’t use a range finder lol 😂

Yes and no, most players aren't going to benefit from knowing 140 over 142 or 138 so a watch/GPS is probably good enough >100 yards, find it massively helpful inside 50 yards though looking at slope/contours of the green and picking a landing spot
