Helping HIGH HANDICAP Golfers With THE BASICS!?
Спорт
Going BACK TO BASICS With A HIGH HANDICAP GOLFER... when taking golf lessons it’s so important to get the basics of golf correct. Instead of buying the latest golf clubs, the best driver of 2021, the best irons of 2021, the best high handicap golf clubs of 2021? The best mid handicap golf clubs of 2021? None of them will work without getting the basics right… let’s do it… and let’s do it now!

Seeing Foxy immediately fix his pitch mark on the green was awesome. I know player of all levels that don’t take the time to fix pitch marks and respect the course. Good job, Foxy and whomever taught him to do that. I use Shotscope to track my stats. If you’re serious about improving you should review your stats on a regular basis. Even high handicappers can see what is hurting their scoring the most and make minor improvements. Great video, Gents!
As a high handicapper I love videos like this! I glean a lot from them! Thank you!
On ya Foxy, good to see you back on the channel. I know all too well the high handicap struggle is real, sometimes just need to keep it simple.
Welcome back Foxy. Help tips James. Thank you. Lots of motivation to enjoy my game more regardless of how I play.
Nice work Foxy, back to basics is always helpful. We have an off-season golf school around here where 3 of our local PGA pros work, it's wonderful to be able to spend 2 or 3 hours a week learning and practicing while the snow is on the ground, even if I am going to go back out next season and undo everything I've learned in winter.
Foxy, keep it up! You look a lot better than past videos. I have only been playing a few years and used to block/fade most of my shots just like you and now hit draws thanks to lessons and practice.
Very relatable video. Don't get me wrong. I live watching you and Chris playing Par golf but to watch Foxy who is much closer to my handicap play a round and learn from the instructions that you are giving him. This is one of your best instructional you have posted. Great job to both of you. I now understand that I stand too close to the ball. I will work on that.
More of this series please James as most of us are like Foxy and need all the help we can get
I love my shot scope. It’s really opened my eyes on what I perceive and what I actually do. Cheers!
Really really good seeing Foxy back on the channel and that was the best that I have seen foxy hit the ball
Great work Foxy. There's never a bad time to go back to basics and do some checks on the setup and swing... No matter what your handicap is.
Great back to basics reminder. I was having same issues earlier in the week. My posture, alignment and ball position all needed adjustments. Amazing how easy it is to forget the basics.
Swing is as good as most mid teens. Best part for me is Foxy’s pre-shot routine at 13:40. Totally ignores where the tee markers are aligned and gets behind the ball to line up to target 👏 Only thing I saw to improve in the first three shots is the finish. He was hanging back just a bit and not getting up on the right toe to a balanced finish. Last tee shot was definitely better getting the weight shifted onto the left side and through to a balanced finish. Focusing on the finish should help reduce the fade without worrying about swing path or strike. He’ll be off 18 in no time.
This is enjoyable. Nice to see that Foxy is improving. You guys are making it look easy!
The Foxy videos are the best! Keep em coming! It’s always awesome seeing new golfers hit those great shots and seeing the look on their face afterwards. Great job James
This was a great watch. Just got an official handicap so makes a lot of sense what you talked through here. Thanks.
Great work James and Fox, I’ve gotta keep working on my 4i, 5i, and 6i.
good to see foxy improving and hitting it well, im needing to work on slicing my driver
Foxy’s trigger movement with the left leg (& correct alignment for an “out” to “in” swing) was I think key to all those good shots we saw. Keep up the great videos & hope Foxy remembers what he’s been thought when the challenge is on. I can’t see James helping him then.
I have the shot scope too. Really helps me understand where my miss is and also what I need to work most on….putting!
Well done Mr Fox . I pick a spot in front of the ball (weed or leaf or longer grass) and line up on that. I don’t mind if I stand very slightly open.
Good job Foxy! Keep it up .. I'm working on my driver in the off season .. I hit it terribly!
Love the video Foxys swing has come on leaps and bounds Going to be working on swing plane in off season 🤞🏻
Great work, Foxy! I think putting the ego aside and taking the feedback you're getting to get better is super impressive. I've only been playing consistently since June 2021 so I wanted to see how this season went with the hand-me-down clubs I got from a friend. It hasn't gone bad, I just make poor decisions, literally, all the time. After watching a ton of training videos and working on my game with what I have I've decided to go for a fitting and get new irons and a driver that are fit for me. My off-season will consist of straightening out my driver and improving my iron game.
Great video guys! Foxy some improvement even just in this video 👍 working on my ball striking with the irons at the min, ball first turff 2nd 👍
Imo one of your best yet pal. Another of these will be good
I'm on a similar journey to Foxy, was high 20s low 20s at the moment. Will hope to break into the mid teens next season with some work over the winter.
I’d say foxy has the nicest set of clubs for a 26 handicap. Makes mine look like 1990s Northwesterns! Keep at it Foxy!
First shot from foxy was great good line as well what I'm working at to be fair just working on alignment which went well to be fair bit always trying to improve (hopefully). Always good to see foxy improving🦊
Get in foxy glad to see your swing is improvingWhen you watch this back you’ll see the difference keep up the good work
That’s the best I’ve seen Foxy play. Amazing what a very few simple changes can accomplish.
Thanks for this James and Foxy, I'm definitely going to check alignment and distance from the ball. My last round was a disaster. 👏👏
Great to see foxy again, he can hit a ball but as you say his bad shots have typically cost him penalties, remove them and his score will tumble
Great effort, Foxy; it's coming around. Having a professional like James working with you will help tremendously. I am experimenting on getting more effortless power, trying to get the tension out of my swing. Shocking gains, but need more consistency.
Your content is gold - these videos taking golf back to basics is so helpful for someone whose come back to golf only a few months ago. Would you be able to cover a video on goal setting during the off-season?
Enjoyed this video like to see more over the winter so we can replicate tips
Much improved Foxy. Keep it up!
I think Foxy is playing some lovely golf, swing looks great to my untrained eye. Only started playing the game a few months ago so no handicap and yet to break 100. As a result I am still pretty much working on everything!
12 handicap senior golfer. Been working on hitting driver on the up rather than squeezing it like an iron to try and get more distance. Also working on short game around the green and putting to try and save shots.
My putting game has improved amd I have gone from mid 90s to even hitting 85 often. I used to feel rushed especially with a group behind us waiting but I have learned to be more relaxed and getting practice with my putter and understanding it's softer feel.
Foxy’s straight/locked arms makes his putting stroke rigid. I think with a little flex in his arms the distance control would become easier. I’ve thought for a while he standing too close to the ball, and good to see you’re onto that with him James. Already made a huge difference. Keep it up Foxy!💪🏼
I go back to basics in the winter months just to check everything is OK ready for the next season rather than just turning up at a driving range and just belting balls but it's all about improving 👌 👍
Great video!
Good to see. I noticed he used to shroud the club face cos he was too steep. Standing further away is sorting that and he was hitting it really crisp in the vid. Getting down in two from around the green would be welcome for me. I suspect it needs practice.
Senior golfer here, revamping golf swing by incorporating stack and tilt. Overhauling entire swing. Currently playing off 12 handicap.

Yeap just changed my swing to stack and tilt. And glad I have. No more sore back and I can now draw a ball. Keep at it. Note if you find yourself slightly thinning the ball then at address have the club head set slightly back from the ball. You will need to experiment a little on how far back the club head is from the ball though.

@@floydianepic3259 thanks for the tips! Like all things worthwhile, it’ll be a long process. So far, I’m liking what I’m doing.
It's always good to go back to basics. I've had a good season but struggled with long irons, some days great other days really poor so through the winter that's what I want to focus on improving. Any tips James would be greatly appreciated 👍🏌️
I started to struggle with aim, so purchased some alignment sticks, amazing how much a small change at address makes to where your ball ends up depending on strike
Awesome tips 🙂.
Great video as always, I am a high handicap golfer also 21. I have the similar flaws on alignment, over half my shots are due to poor alignment. The other fault of mine is tempo, always trying to keep up with others and no taking enough time to focus on each shot.
Two characters top fellows keep up the great work thinking outside the box
Working on consistency of strike / compression with 6/7 irons. Also thinking about adjustments for winter golf I.e club selection and being braver throwing chips closer to the pin
Videos are class
Very good on course lesson, James. Just checking alignment helped a lot. Just bringing the swing more from the inside to out by using wrist angles to give the feeling of dropping the clubhead behind from the top and bringing the right elbow to the hip through rotation will help a lot. Also, short-game-short-game-short game.. chipping and putting. Getting the chipping dialled in is the fastest way to reduce scores (or at least it was for me) Good stuff, looking forward to seeing more of this.
I ordered a shot scope V3 based off of these series and hoping to keep my golf going in the direction it is. Keep up it James and Foxy
I think you are right about going back to basics went for a lesson the other day and my pro told me I was over swinging he shortened my swing and went out yesterday and shot 38 point 2 over my handicap for the first time amazing
Striking the ball fantastic foxy 🏌️♂️⛳👍💥
This is very helpful! Most of us high handicappers would benefit from more video like this rather than too much of the esoteric stuff.
Gaz was working on allignment. I was doing the same thing as Foxy. Too closed with my feet. A lot better now. Good stuff.
I am 24 handicap and took up golf 13 months ago, so quite similar to foxy. I am working on better consistency off the tee with driver, 3 wood and hybrid. Hopefully can get to single figures in next 12 months.
Just had session with my trusted pro. After back issues I was struggling with my game. I suspected lie angle was the culprit as my down and though iron shots had become more of a pluck with shallower divots. Sure enough, after going for a checkup using trackman, I went from 2 deg flat to 2 deg upright. In short, if your struggling with your game, or to improve, always seek professional advice. Great vid guys, I’m sure Foxy will improve as long as long as there isn’t too much info overload.
Nice progress Foxy, wish my two best pals were PGA pros!!!
Go on foxy ball striking improved with cpl of adjustments well done 👏
Working on hitting more fairways off the tee with the driver in particular, I feel my irons are ok. Most of my extra shots come from chip outs from the trees or thinking i have a shot and hitting trees trying to go for distance or the green from bad spots.
Funny content! "Beating Gaz, which isn't that hard is it?" 😆 Ok. This has to happen: You and Foxman vs Gaz and Toheed. 18 holes match play alternate shot with all par 3's played by Foxy and Toheed. Let's Do It 😉🎯⛳
Looking good foxy 👍
I’m not too dissimilar here, I’m focussing on keeping myself from an early extension and working my hands more left. I keep mine out to stop a fade and need to battle my brain think going left will slice, when it actually keeps it on plane. This is also, for me, impacted by a deep takeaway so also working on that. Reckon foxy could benefit from his take away being less inside too!
Foxy tha a reyt bandit, 26 my arse 😆
I am working on strength training and some cardio. Mainly weights in the gym and real steps and walking - no elevators. I am using my everyday life as exercise by carrying groceries while working shoulder and biceps. Getting older but still 205 pounds and fairly strong, and hoping to stay that way. I feel the grips on my stylish Z585 Srixon irons every day and working on balance and setup.
Great video, as always. I will be going back to basics with my swing. I have been so inconsistent this season, even though I have improved. I know I’m trying too hard so I need to get my head in a better place and stop over thinking. Your video has just solidified that theory. Thanks guys. Is it me or does Foxy have really spidery flexible arms?
My last lesson my instructor one of the things we worked on is getting in a more athletic stance and not so upright.
Neutral grip and taking the club up steeper for me over the winter. Foxy strikes a lovely ball, he’ll be single figures by this time next year.
Hey, Foxy put the hat on the right way around your game will seem better immediately! Improving my driving game is a must total distances of 170 + a couple. The swing on the par 3 was splendid. Hey caddy your carrying the wrong bag!
Very similar to myself Foxy , all down to setup and something I’m working on
It's not really the off season here, but we're focussing on Jamie at the moment, and getting him playing more regular and consistent golf. Regular academy tuition up at La Finca, rather than me trying to teach him, and hopefully the pro up there is getting a team together to play a few local tourneys' which will be great experience for him. So that's it really, not necessarily working on any particular technical aspect of the swing, but trying to develop regular practice sessions, and gaining comepetitive playing experience.
Not a bad swing, he could easily cut down his handicap by 10 strokes with some more practice. Well done James and Foxy!
I am a high handicap as well, I’ve been working on aiming too. Something a little more to that making sure my face is in line with my stance, open stance to my club face makes it fade/slice. Noticed his stance is a little open compared to where the club is. Just a thought
It's not "off season" yet, but it's beyond caring season. Daily heavy rains, muddy conditions, reporting season ends in a week anyway, so... I'm working at the range mostly with the club that cost me the most strokes: the driver. Driver, 5i (one lengths), 4H, wedge. If I can hit the 4H, I can hit the 5H. Par 5s: Driver + 4H + PW to 54W. If I can keep those four clubs "in play" at the range, I should be able to play better golf next year. The key will be how stormy it is this winter, and we're expecting a bad one. I don't do well in heavy rain with wind.
With the up hill chip he could even use a hybrid or fairway wood and put it like you did with the 7, we are just about to get to summer in Australia 🇦🇺 and it is warming up hopefully les work and more golf ⛳ 🏌️ 🙃 👍
We don't have off season golf in the Philippines but lull season in-between tournaments, like right now due to the lockdown somehow I'm losing distance on my shots my pro tells me my down swing have slowed down so that's what I'm working on to recover my distance
Crisp shots foxy, sound off the face says great strike.
I'm curious when you and foxy are going to tackle the right arm bend. Looks like it puts foxy in an over the top position from the start.
Eladdy foxy keep it up👍
Get foxy playing with half a set!! Helps me loads as a high handicapper makes decisions easier and less clubs to use so easier to get comfortable using them
Foxy looking good. I need help with solid mid irons
Having problems with alignment, will work on this during winter.Thought the ideal position for the club was to let your arms fall naturally then grip the club ?
I can relate Foxy. I’m 25.5 ATM, 25 is my lowest ever maybe lasted two weeks. Peace mate
Gonna be approaching single figures thru next season. Hitting 52 gap 100 yards @ 26 handicap is good
Some really good improvements foxy. You will be schooling james and gaz in no time.
I think James, Gary and Chris grab a student or two and have a Texas scramble outing, friendly match with similar handicaps. Would be fun to see how they get around.
I am envious of having 3 Golf pros and a scratch golfer as your best friends.
I wish I had a golf pro teacher who would walk the course with me and give me real world, real time training. The best I've gotten was lessons on the range.
Same ere my alignment needs work off 11
Nice video for us amateurs.
Mate I’m working on golf haha was formally on 6hcp had three years out of golf thru injury now parked on 20hcp and am stuck!
Id really really love to see more of this kinda stuff working on foxy. Work on it alot for a month amd them do a full 18 hole vlog
Working on consistent ball striking.....finding the bottom of my strike has been the issue.
Biggest impact to any handicap is keeping ball in play. Switching from bot using a driver at all brought my handicap down by 8 on its own, keeping th ball in play.
Hey Foxy- happy to see you back out taking lessons and getting practice in for yourself. I got 2 tips. 1- keep your spirits high like you normally do. 2- proper practice makes permanent.
Hi james, i have been working on iron shots not looking at the ball as one of your videos and my iron shots have improved but what i am really strugglin with is my wedges. I tend to only hitting high. I hit a 52 56 60 degree wedges and all i do is send them high as anything. And thin my 52. 52 being the harder club for me to hit i seem to get no distance. Thanks

Gotta work on getting compression by delofting the club. I’ve found this easiest by shifting my weight more forward in the downswing and letting my arms trail behind my hips.
Always working short game around the greens.
