'Take a breath!'. You can do a lot in 30 seconds. Stop and think it through, dont rush. Its very easy to speed in to try to rectify a mistake and then end up making another. Especially if its a feel shot...

Hit fairways instead of far. A consistent 180 meter tee shot on the fairway is better than a 220+ shot in the rough (or worse). So, for me this means using my 4 iron for par 4's and 5's.

Hi Chris, this was a well timed video for me, as I've spent the last few years watching your videos and trying to master swing technique and thoughts, I now really need to focus on this area of the game. Well, I did this yesterday...warmed up at the nets, on the practice green and around it with chips etc. Thought out every shot, looking for route of least danger, practiced every shot before addressing the ball using the thinking area before addressing the shot etc. (All of which I've learnt from you!!!!) And I did it, I broke 90 😃 shot 87 (7 pars, 6 bogies, 4 Doubles and only 1 treble!!). Although I've watched many online coaches, I've studied and used yours by far the most, and I had to let you know that it's thanks to you I've managed to do this, and it feels awesome....THANK YOU SO MUCH for doing what you do, you've helped me get from playing in the 100's to playing most rounds in the 90's to shooting 87 yesterday (off 24 so 43 points 🤣) and I now feel like I can truly play golf! You are the best online coach out there, no question. 👍👊👌

Great points.. couple that have really helped me were taking the time to choose the right club for distance, and hitting the ball as close to the green is not always the best strategy.

Perfect. I've been working on swing changes the past few years and this year I have been hitting my 'good' drives 30 yards longer and they've been relatively straight. When I hit my irons good, they go straight and I've got a fair sense of the distance each club will go. Unfortunately my scores have been no better than they've been last year and the year before. HI is still up around 28 and I struggle to break 100 every time. Bit frustrating actually. I feel that my scores have been 2-3 strokes average better than beginning of the season and I always go out feeling that a good round is around the corner, but I still struggle with those disaster holes where a couple of terrible shots wreck the card. Love content like this. Should help a bit I hope. Cheers

Great advice overall. The only negative I see with all this extra analysis is players taking way too long to play a shot and finish a round. Pick up the pace, that’ll help too. In fact Chris should do a video on how to be ready to play before it’s your turn.

  • @paws057

Good advice. I've seen guys try to get out of the trees making a 'hit and hope' shot only to see the ball go into another tree. I'll go backwards if I don't have any other way but always try to get it back in play and gain some yardage. You've already made one bad shot, don't screw around and make a couple more!

Absolutely great advice will save and hopefully demonstrate it on the course. The best advice I can give that's worked for me is play to your handicap ie play a par 3 as a four par 4 as a par 5 etc but the easiest 2 or 3 index holes of your handicap try and play par plus this relieves the pressure.

@@ChrisRyanGolf sensible advice always does! Plus I can think of times when Ive fallen foul of each one of those things...from heart overruling head to losing energy & focus. The classic is holding the same level of concentration from 1 to 18. So easy to slip and then compound rather than clear up..

Here in Melbourne, Australia were in Stage 4 lockdown, have been since early July and the earliest we’ll be back on the course is October 26th. Zero effective practice means there’s only one way the handicap is going when we resume. At least the Club is coming up with a reduction in yearly fee.

I agree energy is important!! Due to the coronavirus I am playing more golf. I am a hiker so I keep noticing how thin golfers' legs are. You may have weight but you probably have little stamina. You will be surprised how much work out you will get by just walking on the golf course. Once you have more muscle and stamina, it will improve your score.

My best advice to anybody is to see a teaching pro to help keep improving your swing maybe once every two months but spend 70% of your time on short game because that's where you make up strokes. Most golfers spend 90% of their time on the driving range and that's not where you improve.
