Before each round, I get to the course an hour early. Practice out of the sand, work through the bag on the range, and always get to the practice putting green but I never have a “good” method for practicing putting. When I was at to 2019 US Open, I saw similar practice and warm-up. I tried your two drills and loved them! I will use them every game. Thanks!

Every day. I either hit 30 footers before hitting range balls or I practice 4 footers on the putting mat in my office.

I am disabled now...too many operations on my left leg and lower back...but when the weather is cooler, I do get out and play nine holes. But, one of the perks of our apartment complex is the two large putting greens. I have always spent a lot of time on the practice greens, and really enjoy doing drills like the one you showed.

I Literally Am New To Putting And This Was So To Understand. Especially The Feedback. It Tells You What You Need To Work On. Thank You. Honestly

Like the gate drill. Phil Mickleson had a putting video and he said if you can practice 3 footers from a circle round the hole and you improve to hole maybe 8 out of 10, you then do your long approach putts to that 6foot circle (a big target) with the thought you can usually get down with the next one. So Dave's given us a technique and Phil a tip which also builds confidence.

Excellent ideas. Practice, practice, practice. Pitching, chipping and putting make up more than 1/2 of the game. 18 holes, 2 putts per hole = 36 strokes. That's 50% of your score. If you add 4 strokes for each of the approach shots to the par 5s you are now 55% of your score. Drive for show, putt for dough. One thing that helps me is to count the paces between the ball and the cup. It does two things for me. 1) it helps me with the read of the green and gives me a feel of any breaks in the putting surface. 2) the number of paces tells me how far my backswing should be for the putt - 1 inch (2.5 cm) per pace - 10 paces = 10 inches (25 cm). I add an inch or two for uphills, deduct an inch or two for downhills. It works well with distance control for MY backswing and MY follow through. Now if I could only read the line.

Dave, another quality instructional video to help us improve. It's amazing how easily we all strive to crush down the middle of the fairway but does the extra 5 yards really matter? But we don't focus on the low hanging fruit of trying to minimise the strokes we give away on the greens.

Excellent video. Putting is half the game and the easiest (and cheapest) to practice. Think about it--the difference between a scratch golfer and a 36-handicapper is just one extra stroke on the fairway and one extra stroke on the green. That's it. If you can eliminate the three-putt, you've improved your game by 50%.

good stuff

I spent 4 hours chipping and putting and shot 84 for 1 st place in my flight. I had 6 bad shots and my chipping and putting was awesome. I'm A 24 handicap and my goal is to be a 12 by the end of the year. Now that I'm retired, I have the time to work hard on my goal
