Does the Tamiya MF01x Beetle Need More Power than Stock?

Hi all. I recently bought this lovely Tamiya MF01x Beetle Rally from Dom at ‪@rc-dom-uk‬ and I wondered if I would have any fun out of it with just a standard 540 silver can brushed motor or if I needed to go brushless. Well surprisingly for me I didn't feel the need for a super fast motor as it was fun in the basic setup. Having said that a Sport Tuned or Torque Tuned would add a nice bit more power without going mad. Oh and I got an injury videoing this so please press like and leave me a comment and all that :-)

    Hi there. Oh yeah it's not glamorous getting the shots but does look good to get the low down view of the car. Yes it has been a while since I did a run video on the grass like this. Good to get back to it and many thanks for your great comments as ever. Best wishes to you 😁👍👍

    I normally don't mind being in a bush 😂. Front footage is a challenge. Always grateful to you for sharing how you recorded thenlow down footage, the beetle in the woods video from a while back is a favourite of mine. (Blitzer if Inremeber correctly). Cool bug, Dom done annice job on this one. Hope you are all healed up now Pete 👍🏻

    Hiya Damian. Oh yes I do try to include something that sounds a bit rude, tee hee. Well it was Matteo that told me about the camera on a stick thing so he did us all a favour. Certainly much easier to do now with the excellent image stabilisation. Yes getting shots of the front of the car still a bit tricky to do without your feet getting in shot or running into a bush 😂 Cheers for watching mate. Best wishes 😁👍

    Great, Pete, thanks for the behind the scenes and "How to" for a proper run video! I have to admit, I haven't ever tried doing that, I would probably run into something right away also... Battle scars, that's what it's called, ha ha... I think you're right, that little bug is just fine without the crazy speeds. And it looks great, DOM did a good job on it!

    Hi there. Oh yeah I am intending to do a video just about how I video the cars but as with everything I haven't quite got round to it. I'm normally ok with running with the cars but it's getting the shot of the front of them that is tricky. Yes a few battle scars this time and a lesson learned. Many thanks indeed for your great feedback. Much appreciated 😁👍

    Hi there. Yeah no pain no gain as they say. You know I tried to get the roof rack off to lower the centre of gravity but even with the nuts taken off I can't shift it so I guess it's staying! Many thanks indeed for watching 😁👍

    Happy Friday, Pete! OUCH, that leg looks like a real pain in the... well, leg! Nasty! But the video was great so as they say, no pain, no gain! 😅😅 Yeah the little Bug seemed to enjoy the grass and the dirt, more fun on the loose stuff I think where you were getting it sliding and drifting. Just a couple of jumps thrown in, too!!! Anyway mate, you ain't 60 yet so I'm amazed to hear you say it was fun with the stock motor, I think you're losing it mate!!! 🤣🤣 But seriously, I agree, these little rally cars are a complete blast if you run them on the right terrain and no need to run at 30+ mph to have a good time! Enjoy your weekend, all the best - cheers! 🍻🍻😎👍

    Hiya Mark. Ha yeah it was a bit of a shock when it happened. What a knob I must have looked 😂 Luckily only some horses saw me. Oh yes I thought that people would expect me to say it needs brushless but I think it would be a bit much for this. Sport tuned would be good so I might do that. I did try to get the roof rack off to give it a lower centre of gravity but it won't budge, even with the nuts off (😂) so I guess it's staying. I also got a Ford Escort body from Dom but it needs finishing so that can be the low c of g one. Some friends are getting M chassis cars so be good to have some races with these. The weather is actually looking good today and tomorrow so out for drink at a new bar they have got down on the sea front and RC'ing tomorrow. Hope you are having a good one too. Best wishes mate 😁👍

    G’day Pete, new viewer watching for the first time and now a subscriber. Yes this car and all Tamiya cars need an upgrade from the silver can motors, my pick is a 15 to 21 turn brushed motor, any brand. Love the show, thanks Pete. 🤓

  • @PeteWylieRC

    @PeteWylieRC

    Hi there and many thanks for the sub 😁 Yeah a little upgrade on this might be good but I don't think it needs the brushless set that I normally put in my Tamiyas. Be great to race a few of these M chassis cars together because they are a manageable speed for my slow brain. Thanks again for your great feedback 😁👍

    Oh the joys of the New Forest gorse bushes mate!! 🤣 Prickley stuff that, and I seem to remember the Heather wasn't that kind to your ankles either (although it always looked gorgeous in that sea of pink/purple in August /September) I wasn't aware that bug could fly so well..... I don't think I ever saw Dom get it off the ground quite like that!!🤣 I think the silver can works well in this case, perhaps a sports tuned at tops..... any more and the damages will start racking up mate. Cool/fun looking little car though Pete! Hope your injuries are healing up OK, you certainly know how to get some great action shots fella! 😊 👍 👍 👍

    Hiya mate. Oh yes nature is lovely but it can be a bit painful 😣 I did look at Dom's video of this again and I think it's more classy than mine but I did get it off the ground a lot more 🤣 I might see how a 15 turn motor is in this but the usual brushless set would be OTT I think. A couple of friends are getting some M chassis cars so will be great to race them together. Cheers for watching and your great feedback as ever. Best wishes to you 😁👍👍
