Wow, same board and GPU as the build I'm working on now, only diff is 12400F on mine. Subbing an ID IS-47-XT for the stock cooler, running a Wraith Prism on my R5 3600 in current box and it stays pretty cool so I think the ID should be fine.

I found if you elongate the mounting hole slots inward by grinding you can use one with a 775 socket cpu. The mounting legs are hard steel so grinding with a dremel is slow going. You have to remove the push in connectors and use some screws that go into the stock 775 backplate. Quieter and cools a bit better that stock.

Not the cooler's fault he used unlocked power limits, thus drawing 100+ watts. The cooler is meant to be used at 65w draw, its perfectly fine there. And this is specifically for work loads. For gaming, its even more viable, due to the temps being even lower. Think about how many CPUs they ship - if every single one of them were to include a beefy cooler like one of noctua or bequiet's tower coolers it would be a huge cost on their end, on the shipping end and even on the user's end, as they'd be forced to pay more for a cooler they might end up changing anyways. One thing they could've done is simply not include a cooler with the 12600K and above, just like with the i7 and i9 SKUs, because they all have a PL1 of over 100w.

@@miweneia there a business, so it makes sense why they include a stock cooler, but AMD does the same thing on some of there CPU's to. but your not part of the business, your just a person. ya there just demonstrating the stock cooler on i5 12600k CPU, but of course it wouldn't be enough. it still wouldn't do a better job at cooling the i5 12400 than an aftermarket Air Cooler, and it doesn't have to be the biggest, both Noctua and Artic Freezer make small coolers just like that, and they outperform it, while also being quiet. i mean the stock cooler is meant for a non K 65 watt CPU, but bare in mind the TDP is an average estimate of what the CPU produces at idle when your not doing much on the computer. so if your just doing some casual browsing, then your not gonna generate much power. it's only when you start doing heavier work loads like gaming or streaming, video editing etc, then the TDP will increase, but how much is dependent on the numbers of Cores you have, and the type of workloads you need out of the CPU.

No, The only concerns with CPU temperatures are if it thermally throttles and costs you performance. CPUs are quite happy operating at 90-90C, and you shouldn't worry about partial or idle temperatures. In reality, low temperatures are a sign of how hard you run your fans, or good case airflow. You should check the cooler is correctly fitted, and the case has adequate airflow. Otherwise, it's fine.

It's fine but you will hear it, it has an annoying noise profile. In terms of performance and temperatures though it's no issue, and easy to replace later.

@@BuildPicker I'm just looking to save a little funds, but I might splurge an extra $40 bucks for a DeepCool heatsink, but I was just curious overall. I've been using a stock AMD cooler for my 3200g and I haven't really noticed any real bad issues noise wise with it, so I bet I could probably get used to the stock i5 cooler too. Thanks for the response, my guy. Not a lot of channel creators will take the time for a random question on an older vid.

I just built a new PC. The CPU fan becomes SUPER LOUD like a JET ENGINE 2500-3200RPM. It slows down-shoots up-slows down-shoots up. The temp. Stays 35-40'C for day-to-day tasks (While the case is open). Coming from fanless M1 MacBook Air, it is freaking annoying to me. Is it normal? Has anyone with similar setup experienced it? Rig: i5 12600 (Stock Cooler) Case: Corsair 5000x (Glass panels not installed for testing) Mobo: Gigabyte Aero Z690 G DDR4.

Sadly that is normal for a stock cooler. Check out our 'best coolers for an i5' video for suggestions, but a basic 4 heat pipe tower cooler with a 120mm fan will deliver much better cooling and much lower noise.

as usual you like many other tech youtubers, you did an un realistic test. This cooler is intended for 12100, or 12400, NOT 12600. second, its the opposite, buyers who buy those basic systems runs at intel specs, not multicore enhancement. 3rd, no one runs the cpu in a cinebench loop, this is an unrealistic pc usage as it can get. normal people use the pc for office applications, browsing, and maximum they do is game. when gaming the load of the cpu is around 25w to max 40w. so gaming scenario is what you should have tested the cooler with, and the results would have been correct. If a buyer buys a pc for looping cinebench and this is what he enjoy in life, he knows very well to buy a tower cooling solution, he does not need you to tell him that. if you claim to be professional ,re run the test as it should have been as explained above, normal gaming 12100/12400 and that's it.

Asus defaults to APE no matter what cooler you fit, so if people are experiencing high temperatures and throttling this video explains why. I don't claim to be anything, I'm just helping people understand their choices when they pick parts and build a PC. I make the advantages and limitations of the stock cooler quite clear in this video. I also moderate a community over 5 million PC users, and I can assure you that plenty of people DO NOT understand the limitations of stock coolers. >the results would have been correct. The results *are* correct. A 40W load won't tell us anything, because it's not anywhere close to the maximum heat output of a basic i5 CPU.

@@BuildPicker You should have make the review the following way: 1. divide it into 12100 and 12400 apart. 2. show normal use case for every day pc user, which is in fact 99.9% of the people out there. use office tools, web browsing, and gaming with a dedicated GPU - what ever model you want be it RTX3090 to stretch the cpu to its max. 3. show a use case of some one using the pc for hi load rendering of photoshop or professional video editing tool. 4. teach why using an unrealistic scenario of OOCT or cinebench or what ever burner software to burn the cpu synthetically, is not loading it in real terms but artificially for lab tests only, which are not relevant to the normal end user but to the developers in intel. that is why no one should show the audience tests like that. if it was a car, you show how it behaves on normal roads by normal drivers, not in Sahara desert at 55 degrees Celsius, stationary without air flow on a dynamometer. every normal car put to a test like that will blow its engine in a few minutes, even if it is a heavy duty caterpillar tool. once you conduct the test to represent the use cases which it will see in its life on the road, you will come to the conclusion, that for 99.999% of the times the default intel included cooler is adequate for the 12100 and the 12400. than you can elaborate that for the 12600k and above, this cooler is not intended and do a separate video showing why, and guide how to pick a tower cooler optimal for those more expensive cpu's - intended for the professional work loads scenarios. intel did not include the laminar rm1 with them for a reason. **I am an engineer, I write from professional experience and knowhow.

@@AY-dw4om >, that for 99.999% of the times the default intel included cooler is adequate for the 12100 and the 12400. It's not though because it restricts the ability of the i5 to perform optimally, and also it's really loud. It is supplied with the 12600, which adheres to the same power specification as the i5-12400 and doesn't draw any more power: it's just a better binned CPU and thus more efficient. I literally say that the Stock cooler is fine for gaming, or if you ensure stock power limits are adhered to. I'm not sure why you're so angry about this. You're welcome to buy these components and do the testing yourself, to your own criteria. You can even make your own videos about it, that's the joy of youtube! However, a better cooler is a big quality of life upgrade, like better tyres on a car, if you want to stick with that analogy.

@@BuildPicker I am not angry , you miss understood me, my wrong here. for your info/question, I currently have 12400 for the past month with arctic 34 basic tower on it, which was found to be an over kill. the cpu in real pc use e.g gaming is at 25-40w max, and at burner software looping -> is at 75 wats. temps at max 60 degree Celsius when burning hard, no sweat. this is when power limits are removed as you test. a 12100 system is on order, will arrive to me in the next 10 days with a stock cooler, and will conduct my tests as well. costs 120 US$ before VAT for the cpu, retail box includes the original fan from intel. for that price bracket, adding a 40 US$ tower like that arctic 34 is pushing the budget from reason territory. you do not buy a cpu for 120$ and waste another third of the price (40$) just for a cooler on top of that. that is out of proportion. that is why it is smart to stick with the original included fan with cheap cpu's. I assume from information collected over the web from numerous sources and counting intel is a serious organization like Boeing, that they did serious developing before releasing those products to the market, and the original fan will be perfect for the 12100, even when intel restrictions are removed in bios as you test, as the cpu will go no more than ~58watts at burner software, so it should be enough. in games the same 25-40 watts are expected, those loads will make the original fan very acceptable by any standard of noise level and temps. I will report here in 2 weeks -> if will not forget to do so :-) **from my view, if someone is about to use the pc for long night compiling heavy sessions, like a developer of large software builds, he usually will not buy a cheap 12100 or 12400, but a more heavy duty machine (a work station) like 12600k and above models , which do not include a fan to begin with. this user will use a more robust heavy duty tower cooler. price wise it also make sense, as a developer who compile a lot, have a strong budget for development tools e.g PC hardware.
