I5 12400F + RTX 3060 Ti - The Popular Gaming Combo Tested in 2023! (1080p & 1440p)
Ғылым және технология
The Intel Core i5 12400F and RTX 3060 Ti is one of my favourite gaming combinations, and thankfully both are becoming ideal for the more budget conscious.
Sure, there may be better options out there (6700 and 6700XT come to mind) but this setup is still really good for 1080p gaming and solid at 1440p.

Thank u for this video building a pc right and this is the combo I was looking at getting.. looks like it going to work for me looking at the numbers you showed it’s capable of.
This will be my future setup, i already bought a 3060ti, now i'm only waiting for the end of the year to buy my i5 12400f 😊. I have a i5 8400 cant wait for the change! Thanks for the review.
When I upgraded from my first PC (I5 6500, 8gb DDR4 ram, 1060 3gb) to the I5 10400f, 16 DDR4 gb ram, 3060 I was super happy with the upgrade! Sadly I bought this in the middle of the shortage so I paid 1940 Cad after taxes But once I was gaming I was happy LOL Im glad the CPU market was sparked up again because moving from a I5 4 core, to a 6 core hyper threaded was very nice!
Good video ✌️
Thanks!
I have the 3060 Ti FE paired with a Ryzen 7 5700X and it's been fantastic. I paid £210 for the CPU back in December 2022 which was a bargain at the time. However, you can now get it for around £160 which is an absolute steal! 10:36 - "1% low of 69, nice." Just couldn't resist it!😂
Was running a Ryzen 5 3600 with a GTX 1080 Ti for the longest time on a 1080p 144hz monitor. Recently had some money to burn so I a upgraded to the Ryzen 7 5800x3D because I’m still more than happy with what my 1080 Ti can do at 1080p. It’s no surprise to me that the 3060 Ti is still holding up amazing as it is a bit faster than big pascal.
My combo is also a 12400f but with the regular 12gb 3060 and can't complain, I play every game I want at full settings 1080p without any issue
I know that I've said that before, but I wanna say it again. I ADORE YOUR VOICE💙. After a long day I return home and watch a copule of your videos, I really enjoy that, keep it up bro.
I bought a 3060ti for 200 dollars, 2 Months ago, and put it with my Ryzen 5600g… I’m so in love with it… I use it with 3 monitors and share work with the IGPU of the Ryzen so… it’s a beast combo … i’m so so happy, that I recommend it to everyone…
Used to run a 10600K and a 3060 Ti, so something similar. Needed a little extra oomph as a self-indulgence after graduation so now got a 12700K and 3080, but I’m sure my brother will appreciate the tech upgrade next he comes home.

I run a somewhat equivalent setup currently, and it's been fantastic. There isn't a game I can't run at smooth framerates, and DLSS helps a ton with 1440p - which is what I try to go for more often than not since I have a 27" 144hz 1440p G-Sync monitor alongside my secondary 24" 1080p 144hz one. Case is the MSI MAG Forge 100R (nice & semi-compact but still plenty of room for airflow & an AIO later on), motherboard is a B450 Tomahawk (planning to get a 13600K soon so not worried about upgrading to another AM4 board) CPU: R5 5600 @ 4.6Ghz (PBO, +200, x10 scalar, -10 offset - cooled with the good ol' RGB Wraith Prism), RAM: 32GB 3200Mhz DDR4 (2x 16GB), GPU: RTX 3060 Ti (Zotac Twin Edge LHR OC @ 110% PL, +150 core, +300 mem), PSU: EVGA 600BR 600w, Storage: Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB NVMe SSD (Main boot drive w/ Win 11 Pro), plus a Samsung 860 Evo 500GB M.2 SSD (running on a PCIe expansion card) and a 2TB 7200 RPM Seagate Barracuda HDD. I run my main games on either the 970 or 860, with the HDD being used mainly for older games/misc files like movies or something. All said and done I spent under $700, and this was throughout 2021-2022. Upgraded from a R5 2600 and RX 580 8GB with 16GB of RAM that I used for around 2-3 years beforehand.
A buddy of mine runs an i5-12400F + a 2080 Super he got a deal on. The i5-12400F was a pretty good budget option awhile back.
I got the same CPU & GPU combination. Love it! ❤
I just bought a rx 6700xt and it is coming in today cant wait to compare my benchmarks from my retired 1070
Bought my setup paired with i510400f and 3060 TI back in december 2020, i have to say i have no problem whatsover gaming at 1440p and i do not plan to upgrade anytime soon.
Finish dead island 2 on a 3060 12 gig and 12400f with 32 gigs of 3200 MHz ram had a great experience. Always above 60 with the avg being I'd reckon 80+ at 1440p high preset with the tex bumped up and dof n MB turned off. Prolly gonna rock this setup for another 2 years before upgrading the gpu (and maybe the cpu to wtv best cpu I'll be able to put in this platform). Plus dlss works really well at 1440p when compared to 1080p imo so that'll be a nice lil steroid for the games that I'll play that'll have it keeping me happy with my setup's perf and visuals.
3060 Ti and budget Zen 3/i3-i5 is what a lot of people have. It plays every game well enough, and will for some time.
Im sitting here reading all the positive reviews of this combo and getting so excited to get it next year!

As a 60hz, GTX 950 & i5 2500k gamer, I still have no complaints for anything well optimized/esports or indie. Not much of a FPS player ever since Black Ops 3, but I was tempted to upgrade for RDR2 (which I ended up playing at 720p), sadly, for Starfield, I might actually have to do it, 7 and 11 years later, there's no more beating around the bush, al though it still works as it used to the first day, technology has advanced too much.
i3 12100F since 2022 february and a second hand 3060 Ti since 2022 september here 'Asus TuF 3060 Ti V2' and I just recently upgraded to 32 Gb DDR 4 3200 from 16 gigs of the same kit I had since 2018. Playing on a 2560x1080 75Hz Ultrawide monitor and for that this setup is still fairly enough. I don't play competitive games at all and I rather crank up the settings in single player games as long as it feels smooth enough for me. I might upgrade to a 14100/14400 in 2024 but other than that I'm perfectly fine with this setup for my needs at the time.🙂

I wish they had made a 3060ti 12gb variant. NVidia went back and made an 8gb variant of the base 3060, I believe. I have an OEM 3060 12gb that was in a prebuilt I had bought. I upgraded to a 3080 12gb, ane the performance leap was insane to me. Previously I had only played games on console, then had two "gaming" laptops, and then finally made the switch to a desktop. Best decision I ever made!

Next upgrade will probably be when the 5000 series comes out. Gonna have to start the process over again CPU wise for some am5 action. 😭
I know you don't like testing upscaling much but this card *kicks ass* at outputting 4K, DLSS-balanced. Can even pull off RT in cyberpunk, and all less-heavy titles. Struggles with Quake 2 a bit though
I'm running the RX 6750 XT, Ryzen 9 5900X with 64GB of DDR4 3600MHz RAM I think I should be set for playing games for a while I know I went overboard on my build lol. PS another great video as always.

Hey there RGIHD! I am loving your content, but I would love to make a suggestion. For competitive games (Apex, CSGO, Fortnite, etc...), show some footage (or just a premade metric) for Low settings. I feel like it would be quite interesting to see how the PCs run competitive games at competitive settings, for max. FPS&Stability. Now, I know that for example, this PC is way too powerful for Low settings but... I think there are people who would still like to see it in a competitive way. + you review weaker specs too, so :P Cheers if you take this into consideration!
I have the exact same build, thanks for justifying my purchase :D but I'm rocking a 32GB RAM because RAM is relatively cheaper here

I was able to get my b660m pg from ali and it took my 12100f to 4.9ghz. Great fps boost on my 5700 xt when playing low-med settings
I'm running a R5 5600/ 3060 Ti which makes it really close to the system in the video, except I'm running 32Gb of Ram at 3600mhz. Upgraded to 1440p and the card really holds up well. I've paid about 600 euro for it back in 2021 close to launch so I'd say it served me well so far. Excited to see what AMD brings with the RX 7700/7800, maybe I can get a great deal on those later down the line. As much as I love this card, I kinda want VRAM for my next card, and that's currently impossible for Nvidia without selling my kidney.

Paired the 3060 ti with the amd 9 5900x and it runs great on non-demanding games with ultra graphics and with good, not slacking performance on more demanding games like Final Fantasy 7 remake, Horizon Zero Dawn, and the Mass Effect Trilogy (modded for 2k textures) but I do experience performance drops from time to time on game titles like these. I overclock my 3060 ti on high demanding games and it runs well worth its weight, but after some hard deciding time I grabbed the rx 7900 xt but it was too large for my pc case without some major setbacks (corsair 4000D with a front mounted arctic aio). I realized that I could have made it worked using a 280mm top mounted rad or upgraded my pc case but I am too not inspired to do it right now so I just returned the rx 7900 xt (nothing against amd products though, I used a rx 580 before my 3060 ti and it worked great too but on medium-high settings only).
Could you possibly look into using a micro PC like the HP Elitedesk computers with the USB graphics card adapter you featured earlier? Would be interesting to see results of that. Gaming on a cheap(er) budget because those micro PCs sell for very little money and since there is no PCIE slot, if paired with a decent budget GPU what would be the result?

This is the combo im running at 1440p :P
Slapped am RTX 3060 Ti in my X99 platform a while ago.
I got one also and bclk oc’ed the heck out of it! And pared with a rx6800 No regrets as it performs better and a lot more efficient than the 12600k 😌
This time i'll skip the 4000 series and go for 5000 series. don't see huge improvements over the 4000 series, nvidia screw up this time with it
Intel + nvidia is truly the best combo
I want to upgrade my rx 6600, should i get rx 6700 xt, rtx 2070 super, or rtx 3060 (all of them are same pricing used) with in mind that beside gaming, I want to use game engine to develop games in future? Or should i wait for more time for better opportunity?
Built this pc for my brother in law back in early 2022 but using the 12400 non F due to GPU still expensive. Few month after during crypto crash I advice him to get 3060 Ti...
Was thinking about the 12400f but ive always been amd so i went am5 ryzen 5 7600 wasnt to much more scored some cheap 32gb 6000mhz and won a ebay bid for a 6700xt for 340 aud absolutely love my new 6700xt ryzen 5 7600 pc
I bought an i5 12400F + RX 7900XT rig, it's very good for playing "old" games (2011-2017) at 4K max, and even most recent at 4K high/medium at 60fps. Great video as always

you have a top tier recent gpu, of course it's gonna perform well
10:34 bro thought we wouldn't hear him
what motherboard are you using for this video?
What cooler are you using for your cpu?
i run r3 3200g and rx 6600 . solid still now
i still use a i7 7700k still works fine for me got 16gb 3200ghz 3070ti @1440p i mainly play forza stuff, resident evil stuff, doom etc. still works ok. but dont get me wrong i will upgrade when the time comes :) nice video. i like see these test you do there really intresting :) keep up the good work.

Your video card is bottlenecked by about 25%. It's time for a new CPU. Since 2015 I went from an FX 8350 to an i7 3770, to an i7 4790, to an i7 6700k to an i7 8700k and now an i5 12400. Believe it or not the 12400 is faster than i9 9900k with a 5.2 Ghz OC in single core and loses to it in multi by 10% or less, it's an AMAZING piece of silicon on offer from Intel. Ironically it bottlenecks my 3070 by 8% still. If I had known that it wouldn't have mattered as I got the chip and board (AsRock B560M-C) for $188 after shipping. So I couldn't help myself. If that 12400 wasn't available I was going to get a 12600 non K. And if I had? I would have ZERO bottleneck. So if you do upgrade, the 12600k would be the starting point for the 3070 tI on the Intel side with the 5800X being the AMD equivalent in this scenario. Edit: I got my 3070 at MSRP at the beginning of launch. So I was using it with my 6700k which hit 5.2 but I kept at 4.8 to keep voltages down. And it was good, but when I upgraded to the 8700k I saw a glimpse of what I was missing and it was alot. I went from not being to lock my 120 Hz OLED to being able to. That much of a difference. The extra cores and threads are most of the reason as my 6700k at the same frequency wasn't that far off from the Single Core IPC of the 8700k. In the end I clocked the 8700k to 5 ghz all core. I have a preset that allows for a 5.2 Ghz OC but it requires a voltage bump that I don't find worth it as I am using a Cryorig H7 and not liquid cooling. Also my 8700k is delidded. The 6700k I never popped the top on. I still have it so I might do it one day for funsies and see what comes of it. If your 7700k isn't delidded I would do that first before buying a new rig. For a total $50 investment in a delidder and a copper IHS you can get that chip up to 4.8-5.2 Ghz depending on your silicon.

@@Trick-Framed yer i hear you lol. i will soon when get more cash ;) but still this setup still works well. forza horizon4 at max setting on 1440p i get from 120 to 165 fps so im not much up for it just yet. but you defiantly right also this thing only runs at gen 3 speeds which i guess dont help lol. but still i will soonish :) gpu is at 100% and cpu is at 82% so not much room for anything else.. take care :)

@@gazzacroy The 3070 Ti doesn't saturate PCIE3 so it's fine. You'd see maybe a single frame difference in a PCIe4 slot with that card. So you are fine. And so long as that proc does what you want? Why bother upgrading. The longer you wait, the more options present themselves as well. Good Luck!

@@Trick-Framed your so right :) my goal was to upgrade slowly as i can. recently i got a new power serply evga 850 gold, about 3 weeks ago i got the graphics card so i was thinking i can take these two things with me when i upgrade(soonish i hope) :) fingers crossed i must remeber to do the lotto :) take care :)
Was just using this combination (EVGA 3060 TI XC) but was using DDR5..Just upgraded to a 4070, and honestly dont notice alot of difference.
I had i5-12400f + rtx 3060. Had game crash within 1 second of getting into actual game (after all loading, main menu), also couldn't render or transcode videos because program crash or even BSOD. 1299€
how is the temps on that cooler? is it effective? for ryzen 5600x
