Does PCB REALLY work to bus headway cells?? Testing Jag35's new bus boards @ 500 amps.

This is a HOT TOPIC in the car audio community for sure. Can you really trust thin PCB boards to bus enough current for a car audio battery?? Will it light on fire? Will they burn?
I wasn't a believer, and I thought this thing was going to heat way up right away. That said, I believe primarily what I'm able to personally test and see with my own eyes. Jehu Garcia was kind enough to send me his latest revision of the 64 ah busing he makes for headway cells - and they exceeded expectations.
I'm still not a fan of used headway cells - but if you are? These boards genuinely shocked me with how efficient and cool they ran.

    So glad you guys seem to have squash the on-going issue/ debate. New to audio world and very limited knowledge of battery systems especially the difference between more typical daily use of the verse audio use from them. Have learn a lot from videos if not for the spat I would had never known of you so in that way this should hopefully have a happy mutually beneficial effect and can go back to older style of videos the he said this and not right back forth video were getting old and wasn't learning anything new. So glad you both were able to resolve this in private. AND YOU HAVE MY RESPECT THAT YOU DONE A TEST THAT YOU BOTH CAN AGREE IS THE RIGHT WAY TO TEST IT SHOWS ME THAT YOUR NOT TO PROUD TO RETEST SOMETHING WHERE SOMEONE ELSE HAS A DIFFERENT OPINION 👍👍👍

    With all of the cells hooked up spread evenly throughout, a smaller amount of current is flowing through each part of the copper board. It evenly distributes the current, whereas attempting to use it as a bus bar and pull all of the current all the way through it? Not a great idea, wasn't designed for that.

  • @rickrandom716

    What was the condition of those cells, that looked like a big drop on voltage ,

  • @GloweIndustries

    @GloweIndustries

    11 ай бұрын

    It was a big drop. A 64 amp hour headway bank can’t handle 500 amps of current and remain above 12v.. I knew that going in - the test was more about if the bus board could handle 500a without heating. The busing passed the test! This PCB bus board will literally outperform the cells or was made for. I’m not personally a fan of headway cells at all, they’re old technology in 2023 for sure. Alas, a lot of folks still use them and are very happy with them, and even more I’ve seen lately have questions on if the PCB bus boards really work so we wanted to test them.

    @@GloweIndustries the only reason why I ask is I bought some off eBay. I knew they were older cells but they claimed to be uncycled. Capacity testing at 2A or 8A have similar numbers (the 8A discharge got them warmed up so those typically did a tiny bit better) but I got 7600-7900mAh. So likely not stored in the best conditions considering the seller was from the same area of Phoenix as me. I accidentally discharged one to the point of making it go reverse polarity. Was trying to test out the full range of an active balancer by discharging a cell to be 1V lower than the others in a 4S pack using a power resistor. Had an alarm set but got distracted by the dog and it went for an extra hour or more. So now I have 7 good cells and I’m debating between buying a new cell for $14 plus shipping from Liion Wholesale or buying 2 used cells from BH and picking the better of the two. All my cells measure 1.9 milliohms AC IR if I remember correctly….so a truly used cell with hundreds of cycles will probably be a fair bit more than that. But a new cell is probably gonna have 8.5Ah of capacity…way more than any other.
