Damn Matt, that engine looks HUGE sitting next to you in the intro! Congratulations.
The bronze used for pilot bushings is called oillite and is porous. Before you install it you soak it overnight in engine oil to fill the pours. This provides lubrication. Oillite should be available at McMaster-Car.
Man !! If that Ardun in the '33 doesn't get your blood moving any sort of car person !!! 😊 Great work guys 😅

This video is classic Irontrap! So satisfying. Watching you guys wrangle this old hot rod iron makes me feel like I've achieved something along with you ... but without the wounded knuckles at the end of it.🙂
Hey Matt! Just my two cents, @5:08 ish.. when you were running the mill, that lever on the left of the spindle is a power feed, not a quill stop. The quill stop is located on the lower right, just figured id let you know in case you engage the power feed on accident and send an endmill into an expensive part next time!
This car is going to scoot. The stance and look is perfect. A very nice collection of rare parts. Time for "Stool Stare". Get on a stool and stare at the reality of your dream. I'd definitely let it clutter up my shop!
Exactly the kind of rod I'd try to draw while doodling in math class in Junior high in '67. In every way, you have captured the essence of the bad-ass street rod in that beautiful '33!!!
That Engine is a Monster !!
As a Brit, Ardun engines are new to me but it looks like it was put on Earth to go into a '33 3 window, the ultimate hot rod. And if ever a car deserved a killer paint job, this is it!

Ardun produced an OHV cylinder head conversion for the Ford flathead engine. Google it. It's a fascinating story that will lead you to the birth of the Corvette.

Don't forget that they were made in England and that the only production car (albeit very limited production) to have an Ardun option was the Allard sports car

The Ardun was also made in England by Allard
That's awesome Matt, there's nothing like that feeling you get when things just start goin together like you imagined it in your head !!
Bitchin' just bitchin'. Needs to be a cover article in an old Car Craft mag. Love it Matt!
Congratulations. You must be happier than a new dad admiring his first child. Can't wait to to hear it running in the car.
This video gave me a Woody ! Can’t wait for the finished product. Awesome 33 !!!
I've been antisapating day since you brought it back to garage. Hope to see it run soon.👍👍👍
OMG super Mint. Rod & Custom Old Day's 😊😊
Engine looks incredible sitting in the car
Fantastic look. Looking forward to the first test run around the town.
Your artistic sense is getting better and better with each build, along with your craftsmanship! This car has "the look" and the muscle! It may never be shown in a gallery, but it is a work of art.
Realizing a dream like that a person couldn't be faulted for wanting to just step back and admire it for a while. 🤘😎
Looks really cool! I like it. My only comment is that I have never seen a pilot bearing that was a slip fit on both the crank and the transmission shaft. They may be like that on flat heads, but every big truck or Chevy I have worked on, the pilot bearing presses into the crank and slips on the transmission. Not sure if a slip fit on both sides is a bad thing, its just that I have never seen one done that way. Either way, the car looks very cool!

I probably misspoke. I had to tap it into flywheel with a mallet. So it wasn’t a “slip fit” more of a press fit. My terminology sucks sometimes.

@@IronTrapGarageto remove the normal fit bushing, you pack the cavity with grease and then use a punch or socket/extension to “hydraulic” the old bushing out. I did more than a few back in the day.
What a beautiful looking hot rod! Holy crap this car is SO close to the finish line! Love it!
This is a fun project to watch!
Awesome - just cant wait to see it progress & hear it run

You and me both!
Morning Matt & Mike, you're fortunate that you have a Lathe & Bridgeport, I've been doing this hot rod stuff for many years, I don't have a Lathe or Bridgeport but I do at work. This is why the hot rods in the early days looked so hacked up, instead of maching shop equipment they used anything they had to make parts work.
Thank you Matt and Mike for the update on the Ardun car !
Wow !!!! I am a custom car guy. But that '33 with the blown Ardun in it just oozes Hot Rod out of every part of it. It's got to have cool paint ... just got to !!!
Great stuff ... that's as cool as having an early Hemi.
The perfect car for that engine; looks awesome [and I don't use that word lightly!]
This build is beyond epic! Thanks for bringing us along!
Looks great 😊😊 I really like the way the blower is not sticking way up in the air the way a lot of people build them . I would leave it rough and tuff the way it is.😊
On the exhaust, you could run 2 into 1 headers that turn out to side exit and caps and then either Y the together to run out the back OR run 4 pipes out the back. As for the finish it can wait till the car is on the road. 😁
Hey Matt make an old mechanic happy, please put some rags in the top of those carbs. The build looks great!!
Really dig all the traditional and period parts your using. Also that chop and channel suits the car perfectly !!
Looks great! For the exhaust, 4 pipes out the back could be cool (one pipe for each cylinder pair). Just an idea!

Looks right at home guys!!! A friend in England has an Ardun and know the time to build it and fit it can be a long journey. First drive though will be awesome
Looking good Matt. I understand that rad angle, it's important for the classic visual profile.
Oh, my God! I think this is the finest engine I have ever seen in a car! Thanks for another great video!
Matt and Mike that engine is awesome in that car it deserves a kick ass paint job and lots of chrome with the roof filled in smoothed out
It is totally awesome .
I like you would just make the outside sung, but the inside one, i would give it .03 for grease . Mint 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
5:01 Gears sound noisy in video. Do they need lubrication? 9:13 Interference fit should be about .001" Raising the radiator 1" gives you more clearance to change the belts if need be, unless 1/2" does it also.
A friend once used a kids steel wagon for a clearance pocket on the fire wall. Sounded like a good idea 3-4 inch set back and cut to length. No forming/bending
Congrats on finally getting the engine in. I know you been waiting a long time for this. So now hopefully by the end of summer you can get it on the road. 😎😎👍👍
That engine is a KILLER in that 33! Can't hardly wait for the next installment! Great job you guys!!!! BTW, just an idea here, your exhaust issue, how about making four (Two for each side) 2 into 1 pipes running from the engine out to the back of the car with 4 exhaust tips sticking out of the back? KILLER!
A huge step forward Matt! Going to be an awesome car once everything is put together. I think that no matter what you do to the paint work, the car is going to get lots of attention. Cheers
Cool ,half way through evening coffee .cant wait to see it test drive .

Ha ha, the power of the internet. I'm halfway through my morning coffee when you posted.
Absolutely too cool! The Ardun is just killer and will be a great runner. I will be watching for sure.
So fkn awesome! Exhaust suggestion: dual system, exiting in front of the rear wheels at a 45° angle to the rocker panels. Use 3" pipe for the last foot of the tailpipe so it acts like a megaphone but flatten the pipe itself into an oval shape like the Ford oval so it's about 4" wide a 1.5" high. Slash cut the end parallel with the rocker too. Looks very race car ish but old skool, sounds awesome and different to every other one you'll see. My race car here in Australia is done this way and gets alot of cook comments.
I occasionally see the guy in Nova Scotia, what I see and hear from you is , you’re measuring, and double checking time and again, that Canadian individual, doesn’t use a tape measure, consequently… a lot of patch work , he is doing a ‘34 Dodge , that appears that in it’s former life was a DRAG CAR , in the comments, many have written “YOU ARE DESTROYING A COOL OLD COUPE” , on the other hand, you guys do safe , and clean work.
Wow! Great job gentlemen!
Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!! This is the one I'm really looking forward to going for a virtual cruise in, 33's rock!!
Great work Mike
That is the ultimate Hot Rod engin. Top of the heap. This is a dream of a set up IMO. 🔥👏👏👏👏
A great advancement on the 'years in the making' on the Ardun 3 Window, looks F'N GREAT...Yeah Mon!!! Matt, here's another $0.02 for your consideration... when either milling or turning aluminum you can turn up your SFM (surface feet per minute) quite a bit. depending on what your Bridgeport J1 head will provide, 2500+ RPM for ؽ" 2 flute End Mill will mean less chatter, faster material removal rate and better surfaces. BTW - Turn it down for parting off or grooving in Brass/Steel/aluminum = less tool pressure and chatter.
That is a badass build !
Looks so good.
Cant wait. Matt, looking amazing!!
You could sell posters of it as it looks right now. What a knockout.
The engine looks great in your coupe. Congrats
Looks amazing!!!!!!
Can the top tank of the radiator be made even more concave, or re-engineered altogether? Somehow made even thinner in the middle (underneath) where the radiator support bars hook to it? I'm totally with you on keeping the rad/grill as low and leaned-back as much as possible. Seems like there's an opportunity to re-engineer the top rad tank a bit to make that happen.
Anticipation ! Going to be great!
As for the firewall. Put a couple of reverse bubbles where the water block off are in the back of the heads. That will give you a couple more inches of foot room.
Great work Guys! Your videos are always interesting!👍👍👍
Some hand beaten dishes in the firewall to accommodate the water block offs , would be rad !
Looking forward to see it done awesome power plant
Looks awesome the ultimate flathead.
Overall the car is coming together, that motor is killer ,certainly an imposing stature, love it 🇦🇺🦘
Looks great, Your hard work is coming together very nicely. Can't wait to see you driving it. On the radiator and the front crossmember. Why not modify both with a recess to give more clearance for belt swaps. You need to modify the radiator tank anyways. Why not make it so it will be easier to work on? Why not cut a chunk out of the bottom of the tank, then get a piece of brass sheet/plate and shape it into a half circle shape to create a tunnel for the pulley.
That Ardun engine looks fucking awesome!👍
Outstanding!
Looks stunning....aspiring!
Mattangelo, what a magnificent masterpiece ❤😂😅😂truly a gem in your treasure chest
I want to see you driving this thing here in the next couple of months
This thing is going to pull like a train. I have a similar (blown Ardun) setup in my '28 roadster back in England which dyno'd at 332hp and 357lb.ft torque. YeeHaa
Love it!!!! I think I would leave the paint alone. 🤷🏻♂️
That engine looks awesome… what a “cool ride"
That is an absolutely beautiful engine.
You're going to stuff a couple of shop rags in those carbs, right? Re zoomie style headers, you may be able to install a VW exhaust tip in each pipe as I did way back when. It worked well for me.
Your going to have a hard time keeping rear tires on it. Order spares.😅
Outstanding! Super stoked for you! That engine is the stuff of hot rodders dreams! Curious, how much heavier is the Ardun compared to a standard flathead? Did it drop the car lower in the front or no difference? Super proud of this accomplishment, you earned it! Can't wait what's next! Go Iron Trap, keep moving forward!
Damn those heads make it really wide and badass!
In every way just perfect.
Matt...admit it, when you committed to that engine, you decided everything else for that build would have to be nothing but the best available. Take your time like you're doing with the sweetheart roadster because this car is in that league now. (and it's not a bad thing)
Give the people zoomies!
Yea! It fits.
Congratulations, it looks killer. No paint, it took 90 years to look like that.
man good job
Dude!!! Great video!!! Damn it looks COOL!!! The crappy look with the patina engine!!! Also damn it looks cool also!!!✌️
Congratulations matt Is cars gonna be cool .
i think you should add a scallop the radiator to clearance the pulley. .if you lean it forward or move it up even 1/2 and inch it will look goofy
long time dream car and doing it very well period correct for your preference. You do nice work and share. Thank's
Hi Boys, it's time for a power winch. 😁 does the hood act as a fan shroud to help air flow through the radiator, maybe you could cut away part of the hood to make room for the engine.
@IronTrapGarage
3 күн бұрын
Not sure why we need a power winch. This one works just fine.
Excellent! I was wondering if some subtle mods to the underside of the top tank would pay dividends. I have a 33 5W with a 59A and the space available for belt change is minimal at best. You didn't show the U bolts for the front spring. Will you still be able to do a belt change with those in place? Love the build, love the car. Love the engine. All the best, Mart in England.
Wicked cool!
Raising the radiator 1/2 inch won't affect the flow lines of car if you put a straight end from windshield it should be perfect. Also headers dumping down into sidepipes could be a option as Fords run better with a little backpresure . Great job so far love to see it running around the area beings I local too.
so friggin cool. congrats on this big milestone man! those water necks... does coolant actually flow through that slim vertical piece?
Hey Matt, this is a little off subject but how do you tune those multiple carb set ups like the car in the background ? Do you use a vacuum gage ? 👊😎👍
Awsum ride.👍
