Does Georgia want to be a tax haven for Russia's billionaires?

Critics say Moscow's destabilising influence has been laid bare this week in neighbouring Georgia, with the passing of the “foreign influence” bill by parliament.
(Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
But why is the ruling party there so intent on pushing this law through? After all, hundreds of thousands are protesting against it and it could put the brakes on EU membership which most Georgians say they want.
Other recent, less noticed legislative changes, may hold the key.

AS IF HE STAYS TOO CLOSE TO MOSCOW, THEN PUTEY CAN TREAT HIM LIKE A FAT PIGGY BANK WAITING TO GET THROWN OUT OF A WINDOW, WHEN PUTEY WANTS TO RAID THE PIGGY BANK BACK FOR WAR FUNDS. PUTEY ALSO TRIED TO POISON ABRAMOVITCH AT A TURKISH PEACE CONFERENCE, BECAUSE HE WANTED TO ALSO HIT THE OTHER DELEGATES AND UKRAINIAN DELEGATES, AND POOR BRAMY WAS JUST IN THE WAY AS A SACRIFICE TOWARDS THIS. The Russians have done this already, it has been going on for around 15 to 18 years, since Putin has been in power. However, according to William Browder, CEO and co-founder of Hermitage Capital Management, the man who lobbied American officials to pass legislation sanctioning Russian individuals involved in corruption. Britain has sanctioned and frozen assets of more oligarchs than any other nation on earth, this is fact but don’t let that stop you from propagating your political nonsense. Browder was the brave individual who brought the case to Senators Benjamin Cardin and John McCain, who proposed the legislation called the Magnitsky Act. The Act, originally passed by the United States in 2012 and expanded globally in 2016, has inspired similar legislation in several other countries. As of now, there are at least nine countries with Magnitsky-style laws: 1. United States: The original Magnitsky Act and the Global Magnitsky Act allow for sanctions on individuals involved in human rights abuses and corruption worldwide. 2. Canada: Passed its own version in 2017, known as the Justice for Victims of Corrupt Foreign Officials Act. 3. United Kingdom: Uses a broader sanctions law to target individuals under a Magnitsky framework. 4. Estonia: Implemented its version in 2016. 5. Latvia: Has similar provisions. 6. Lithuania: Also has Magnitsky-style sanctions. 7. Australia: While the legislation has been proposed, it has not yet been fully enacted. 8. Kyrgyzstan: Implemented its version recently. The European Union has NO version of the Magnitsky Act. They are instead thinking of developing a comprehensive Magnitsky Act for the entire bloc. These laws enable these countries to impose sanctions, such as asset freezes and visa bans, on individuals involved in human rights violations and corruption. YOU NEED TO EDUCATE YOURSELF. RATHER THAN WRITE FALSE STATEMENTS

Geographically, Georgia is well positioned to become a Singapore of the Caucasus. Georgia is relatively small and is situated at the crossroads of the big regional and world players namely Russia, Turkey and Iran. Just like Singapore, Georgia has no significant natural resources and lies in the middle of a transit route for oil and gas.

Switzerland and Monaco are tax havens yes, but they don’t force their own citizens to register as “foreign agents” if they work for international NGOs or the BBC.

Georgians don't support this law, that's all that matters at the end of the day. It's not for Russia or the west to decide what laws Georgia is gonna push, when 300 000 People come out to protest this law there has to be more underneath this law right? Also there are huge differences in how the law is implemented and enforced in Russia and USA, also there are major differences in those laws, USA doesn't require you to declare yourself as an "agent" if you get international funding, if it was the case then TikTok would have been long gone already (for the record I do think that TikTok should be banned everywhere since it's basically a Spyware). Anyways, you should shut up and let Georgians do what they think is right for their future.

I am a Yemeni girl displaced from the war. My family and I live in a rented house in Al-Shahrab 20,000 Yemenis among us, and now we owe 60,000 for 3 months. The owner of the house is one of the people who does not have mercy, by God, my brother. He comes every day, insulting us, talking about us, and moving from the house to the street because we were unable to pay him the rent. The neighbors saw us crying and came back. They came back to talk to the neighbors and we were given the weekend. So we made him swear by God. He will take us out into the street. Have mercy on him and us. Our country is due to this war and we do not find food for our day, and my brothers and I live in a difficult life. Our father died, may God have mercy on him, and we have no one in this world who was with us in these harsh circumstances. My younger brothers went out into the street and saw...The neighbors eat and stand at their door in order to give them bread even if they break it. By God, to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, they closed the door and expelled them and came back crying. They are dying of hunger. No one has mercy on them and a holiday is returned. I have made a living, and now if one of us helps us with a kilo of flour, I swear to God, I am dying of hunger. My brother, I am an alien to God.
