I was actually the “test subject” for a student doctor doing an ultrasound, after the doctor got what they needed they asked if the student doctor could have a look, and they pointed out my bladder and ovaries (and other things I don’t remember, possibly my kidneys) to the student. I hope they’re doing well!

5:52 tbh, that is true sometimes. I've worked with doctors who keep their patients waiting while they're doing whatever: having a snack, talking to a friend on the phone, checking social media, reading the newspaper, buying something on Amazon, booking a table at a restaurant, ... It happens. It's OK to admit it happens.

This video was awesome. I have to say, I really appreciate your honesty about how much time it takes to really do a patient visit correctly. I find it frustrating that appointments are only 15 minutes - especially if I have multiple things I want to ask about & discuss. I don't want to have to make multiple appointments to cover all of my questions, it's just not a realistic amount of time to properly provide the care we need.

My orthopedist is usually 10 minutes to 1 hour late. At first I was pissed because of this, but then my dad told that he's actually an ER orthopedic surgeon and he often has emergencies. This is to say that if your doctor is late, is not probably because he's lazing around, but because he's helping people or even saving lives. Try to remember this❤️🙏

I will say Dr. Mike, as a pharmacist I can totally understand the capsule vs tablet struggle because I have to make that call around 5 times a day and its usually for an antibiotic that they need asap... and because the patient is usually delayed in getting to the pharmacy, it ends up being a next day problem. I went to the ER once when I had a particularly bad panic attack that wouldn't stop (I actually had serotonin syndrome from my migraine meds & antidepressants). So I'm in the triage area, literally shaking and struggling to breath, one RN is trying to give me IV fluid but I'm shaking so badly my muscles are practically convulsing so she leaves to get a different RN, meanwhile this radiology tech walks in and starts moving my bed toward the door & says "The baby seems fine but we're gonna get you to a special ultrasound machine for [insert some medical term here]" ... I kept trying to tell her I wasn't pregnant but my panic attacks and hemiplegic migraines make it almost impossible for me to manage a sentence so I'm just yelling "Nooooo wrong baaaaaby noooo" but she's confused and alarmed now because she thinks I might be having a stroke (what hemiplegic migraines can occasionally mimic in symptoms) and also pregnant so she calls out some code & a doctor rushes in, starts taking my vitals and pushing around my stomach area & asking about my pain, this whole time I'm still trying to say "I'm not pregnant" but words are hard - finally the original RN walks in and it turns out a woman named Candace McDonald (my first name is Candice) was in a small car accident and had come in to verify the baby was okay. My GP came by later & I told him the whole thing & he's trying hard not to laugh but he says "Well telling a woman she's pregnant while she's having a panic attack is just not good practice."

Also, toss in some Hill-Sachs deformities just for spice. All due to seizures that manifest from anxiety that I’ve been whining about most of my life. You’re spot on when you say little things add up or can grow into massive issues if not addressed immediately.

When we get a ticket (a specific recorded issue), we first read the ticket information (the "chart" information) to see the full information of the issue and to see what was done to combat it. 2. We contact the techs that worked on this issue before (tier I and tier II techs) to gather more information on what exactly is going on and what they've done in more detail. 3. Research what is going on; and the possible solutions (online, with co-workers and/or higher ups). 4. Speak with the customer (aka patient), go through the list of given remedies and gather further information at the same time.

This was only realized when one of the nurses called to ask Dad how he was feeling after surgery. He was very confused (and trying to catch my sister who was in naked-toddler mode and he was trying to get clothes back on her) The doctor’s office wrote a big 1 and 2 on the files, to hopefully not make that mistake again!

3:05 speaking of, a efw weeks ago we had two cousin patients, one was in his 50s and the other in his 70s, and they both had the same initials and the same last name, but they wanted to share a room too so they were room x bed 1 and 2. We didn’t refer to them with their names but either as old and young one or bed 1 and 2, because we couldn’t use their name or even their initials because they had the same there too

My mom has the same first and last name as a cousin of ours. She regularly gets our cousin's mail and people trying to call her. But she also sometimes gets calls from our local clinic about appointments for our cousin's health issues or gets a reminder for an upcoming appointment with our cousin's doctor. The only time it has ever pissed her off was when the clinic called our cousin about my mom's appointment and she forgot to tell my mom, so she missed the appointment.

Yep. My mom's doctor office sent in a nurse who we had never seen before who asked all about Medicare which my mom had been signed up over a year. She asked a dozen questions about her current scrips and none matched up. I was alarmed but my mom kept telling me it was ok. Finally she had the wrong d.o.b. and at that point i knew something was really wrong. Turns out the nurse had come into the wrong room, didn't even know that she had a different patient waiting and had entered all kinds of info by then by mistake. My mom is from that generation who WILL NOT cause a scene- even if they give her the wrong meds and watch her become ill from it. Fortunately i have no such problem and it was quickly straightened out. Everyone needs a health advocate! When you are sick or in pain the last thing you can concentrate on is the details; write it down! Document your meds and instructions- repeat it back to them if you are not clear. Because of Covid not allowing a caretaker to go with a parent or sibling- is easily the worst recipe for otherwise avoidable mistakes.
