Doctor Durant's Sanctum: (Ep11)AHI Monsters! Vintage Dracula Figures!

Day Of The Draculas!
Wherein We take a look at some of my Dracula Collection. Including Azrak Hamway, Lincoln and Mego!
JONATHAN HARKER'S JOURNAL------(kept in shorthand)
3 October
He did not come for me tonight so I searched the castle for him.I went down into the basement where the dim light struggled, although to do so was a dread to my very soul.I saw nothing but piles of "action "figures" and fragments of old comic books. Then I saw him. There amongst the longboxes on a pile of "Nashville Hot" Potato Chips, lay the Collector! He was either dead or asleep, I could not say which-for the eyes were open and stony, but without the glassiness of death. Then I smelled the stale coffee on his breath. A doughnut crumb fell from his mouth and he emitted a noxious gas from his backside with a roar. Then I heard the music! That song! REMCO Frankenstein! I fled from the place leaving the Collector in his room. I thrust myself upon the bed and slept. No man knows till he has suffered from the night how sweet and dear to his heart and eye the morning can be. But this morning brings me no joy for on this morn I must face ,THE DAY OF THE DRACULAS!!!!!!!

Thanks! That John Carradine figure is a favorite. At the time Carradine looked the closest as to how Dracula is described in the book

Awesome Kolchak figure. The Blacula is killer too. I bought a Brentz customized Blacula figure recently as well.

Hey Tony, Thanks, I just bought the new sculpt as well. Brent makes some great stuff. I have quite a bit of his stuff that I showcase on the channel. I love Kolchak. Always good to hear from a fellow Monster Fan!

BTW-I couldn’t agree w you more about recommending Toy Ventures Magazines. I love to support fellow passionate collectors who still love printed material...and the photos were very cool. I don’t recall ever seeing info on AHi Monsters put into that concise format. I’d love to see an ever deeper dive into the topic in his magazine in the future. It’s just fun to gather up reference material as a collector as well. I think it would be awesome if he were to do a “collectors spotlight” at the end of each issue in the future but that’s a huge undertaking I’m sure. The amount of time and effort that goes into the publication is immense, I will be buying every issue he puts out. Hopefully shows will resume next year and we can get back to meeting people in person as well

I love Toy Ventures. I think that for the most part we collectors are a great community, especially us Monster Kids. Sure, there are a few gatekeepers and bad apples out there , but for the most part I meet great people. It’s the reason I started making these, to share my joy and memories of this stuff with others. I love reading others memories and experiences as well. I love that collectors showcase idea! Thanks again for watching. We also have a Facebook page if you’re interested. Take care and Stay Scary!

Great stuff, I love all my AHi, Mego and Lincoln Dracs too! I’m curious if you like the Sideshow Collectibles Lugosi Dracula as well? 2000s era figure but I think it is an amazing likeness to Lugosi and VERY high quality. I prefer vintage monsters as well....but that line of Monsters is amazing imo.

The Lincoln Drac is the only Lincoln figure I own. They are getting way out of hand price wise! I agree with you on Sideshow. I have quite a few Sideshows and will do an episode on them down the line. The Lugosi Sideshow Dracula is great. I have the 8 inch one as well as the 12” Holiday Drac. The 12” holiday Drac shows up in my Holiday Movie episode and I showcase some of the Sideshow w Wolfman figures in my Wolf Man episode! I’m so glad you’re enjoying these episodes and thanks again for watching!

Great video featuring an epic Dracula collection! I have the new Mego dracs you showed, in addition to the new Mego Hammer Chris Lee Dracula (which is actually pretty good). The favorite Dracula figures in my collection are the Distinctive Dummies 1/9th scale Dracula, Prince Of Darkness and the DD Dracula A.D. 1972 2-pack with Van Helsing, and the Product Enterprise 1/6th scale Hammer Dracula. I also have the DD 1/6th scale Count Yorga, Vampire; Golden Vampire; and Kurt Barlow; along with the DD 1/9th scale Salem's Lot 2-pack, Kolchak 2-pack (w/Kolchak & Janos Skorzeny), single Van Helsing, Baron Meinster, and Captain Kronos. And, of course, the Sideshow usual vampiric suspects. You mentioned Tomb Of Dracula...Distinctive Dummies made a Jack Palance Dracula figure which could be made into a TOD figure by replacing the blue-lined cape with a red lined cape and drawing or printing an overlay to cover the card art. Gene Colan modeled the facial features of Marvel's Dracula after Jack Palance from Dan Curtis' Dracula (1974) for most of the run, and that seems to be the definitive look for the Marvel version. However, I have the Marvel Legends Monsters 4-pack (Simon Garth, Monster Of Frankenstein, Dracula, Jack Russell Werewolf) and the Dracula figure in that has more of the generic face that the Marvel Dracula had earlier in the run. The Legends Drac also has a dull red lined cape instead of the bright red lined cape in the comics. I still favor the Palance look for Marvel's Dracula, and there wouldn't be any legal worries with a custom figure. Unfortunately that DD Palance Dracula is HTF and pricey when you do find one. I'm at the age where I wasn't buying figures in the mid to late '70s and I never went back to get original Megos, AHIs, and Lincolns, due to the prices. I think they're cool but they aren't worth the money to me personally because I never had them as a kid. If I ran across some for a really great deal I would buy them, but that isn't likely, so I'll admire them from afar thanks to great videos like the ones you make. Thank you. That Brentz Dolz custom Blacula is really nice. I missed out on the DD Blacula when it came out, and I won't be paying the prices those go for now, so I may get one of the Brentz. Those are very reasonably priced for the quality. I like Blacula very much. In fact, your fantastic video has prompted me to watch the Scream Factory BD Blacula double feature again. Cheers!

Hey, Michael, Sounds like you have a great DD collection. I have a few of those but missed out on a lot of the older ones and as you said they are quite pricey on the back market. Fortunately, I’ve found BrentzDolz . He has affordable customs ala DD. He even works with Martin Cage of DD. I did a BrentzDolz episode. If you have time check it out. I have the nuMego Hammer Dracula and Van Helsing. I’m a huge Peter Cushing fan. I love Dracula A.D. 1972, it’s so 70’s. I’m also a big fan of Count Yorga and Blacula. I have a full run of Marvels Tomb of Dracula, and I feel it’s time for a reread. You’re right, Colan always said his Dracula was based on Palance. That would be a good custom. I never had the AHI’s as a kid either, but they scream 70’s Monster Kid so I had to have them. They used to be pretty reasonable, but now the prices are crazy.Lincoln’s and Tomlands are even higher. However, you can still find deals here and there. I hope you enjoyed Scream, Blacula,Scream! I’m watching Suspira right now, I was in the mood for Witches! I love the Goblin soundtrack! As always, great reading your comments and chatting!

@@doctordurantssanctum1977 Hey, Rich. Like you I wisely finished TOD and the other Marvel Monster Bronze Age titles back when they were much more reasonably priced. Tomb Of Dracula is one of the best runs in the history of Horror comics. It would be cool to have a custom Marvel Dracula figure the way Colan drew him later in the run (ala Palance). I watched the Dan Curtis' Dracula last night after Blacula. It's a really good film. Production values are impressive, even though Curtis probably had a pretty tight budget. He could do wonders with not-a-lot of money. His work with Dark Shadows and Kolchak are legendary. Check out his The Norliss Tapes (TV Movie, 1973) if you haven't yet. It's very good. I plan on watching Scream, Blacula, Scream! tonight, and I'll probably check out the commentary tracks on the Scream Factory Blu-ray soon. Speaking of witches, are you getting the All The Haunts Be Ours Blu-ray box set from Severin Films? It's expensive but I took the plunge and preordered it. For fans of Folk Horror, movies like The Wicker Man and The Blood On Satan's Claw, it looks like a great purchase. It ships early next month. Go to Severin's website and check it out if you haven't already. I'm on a vampire kick while I'm waiting for the All The Haunts Be Ours box set. I think I'll check out the Yorga flicks, House Of Dark Shadows, Near Dark, the Jean Rollin vamp flicks, and some other Euro Horror vamp flicks like The Devil's Wedding Night, Count Dracula's Great Love (Naschy), Vampire's Night Orgy, Curse Of The Vampire, Hannah Queen Of The Vampire's, Female Vampire (Jess Franco), etc. Chat later, and remember...always check for a reflection when you meet a stranger.

@@michaeldodd6902 thanks for the tip on that Severin set. It looks amazing. I always wanted to see The Norliss Tapes but I don’t think it’s ever been release on Blu-ray or is out of print. I love the Night Stalker and own both the movies. I’m going to pick up the new Kino Blu-ray of the series soon. Dan Curtis was great, although I’ve never fully been able to get into the Dark Shadows series I love everything else about it. The toys, comics, movies etc. It was so prevalent when I was growing up. Sounds like you’ve got some great movies lined up to watch. Talk to you soon!

@@michaeldodd6902 I just ordered that All Haunts Be Ours Severin set. It looks like it has some cool films. The last big set I purchased from them was the Al Adamson set. Some fun films on there, but some real tough ones to get through as well.

@@doctordurantssanctum1977 Yes, the All The Haunts Be Ours set looks like a winner, though very pricey. It takes something special to get me to buy a boxed set for more than $100 (and especially $185 including shipping!). Congrats on taking the Folk Horror plunge. I already have Dark Waters but the rest will be all new for me. Dark Waters is a treat for Lovecraft fans. The last set I ordered from Severin was The Eurocrypt Of Christopher Lee, which is pretty much a must-have. Before that it was Hemisphere Horrors and before that The Blood Island collection. I even ordered the bundle for The Blood Island Collection with the map, pin, coasters, etc. They were sold out of the biggest bundle containing the TOTS Beast Of Blood mask, but I bought it separately from an eBay seller. I grew up watching the Blood Island flicks (uncut!) on Chattanooga's Shock Theater with Dr. Shock and Dingbat in the mid '70s, so the best home video releases of those were a must-have for me. I passed on the pricey Al Adamson set as well the Andy Milligan set. I have most of those movies anyway and many of those are "tough ones to get through" as you say. I know a lot of those movies have their fans, and are a big part of growing up a Monster Kid, but I decided not to sink that kind of money in mediocre fare that I already owned anyway. It wasn't worth the upgrade for me. If I had more expendable cash I would buy just about all monster merch related to the '60s and '70s, but I have to ration my monstering money to get my favorite things.
