Do You Really Need Adobe?

So I've been using Adobe products for over a decade now, and I think most can agree they've gotten worse. They're still the industry leaders when it comes to graphic design, video editing, and visual effects. I can't help but imagine that there might be alternatives that are sneaking up on them and coming out with more innovative tools for the creative community. Today we're going to explore some of these options and hope Adobe changes for the better.

The biggest problem with the Adobe pricing model is that companies like Adobe exist solely to suck as much money from you as possible while offering as little as possible. The companies are more interested in pumping as much cash to their shareholders as they are working on being innovative!

to be fair .. business is business and indeed no one can compete with them in the current time they offer the most even tho they're expensive on the long run the creative business does pump a lot of money at the end of the day it's just people who aren't pros enough yet who struggle a bit but later on everyone will be able to pay for it

saying "as little as possible" isn't that fair, since adobe has the biggest monoplies in the world, competing with Meta, WeChat and Google, They own the best software of all of the niches, but the adobe pricing model is too expensive for an average user, but for massive youtubers, massive companies, and movie directors, $60 a month is pocket change

Adobe is geared towards professionals. I would rather say that Adobe isn't for you rather than it being bad, and that at least is a fair point. Hope AI and web-based era can threaten its position in the market a little more, so they could provide what’s really helpful- instead of getting updates of having colour label on key frames, I hope we can get updates on the firmwares that utilise a lot more power on the GPU, having faster response and rendering lol😂

for premiere i think it's over and Davinci is taking over, for photoshop as far as i know the vast majority are using different types of AI apps of even affinity software just because it's faster and more suitable for social media platforms, illustrator could be replaced with even free software but because it's the industry standard for so long it is still mandatory for most designers, and for after effects i don't see replacement for it just yet most of the tools you talked about are VFX tools and nothing for motion designers and the only competitors are apple motion and calvary, Apple slept on motion for so long without regular updates just like fcpx and calvary is still not there yet and can be considered expensive for their monthly subscription

I learned on Adobe but once you leave the classroom you find it to be: 1: Buggy (only Maya is worse) 2: Incompatible with other apps & services and worse it is often incompatible with itself 3: Each application had a different interface 4: Cost more than it was worth Conclusion? Due to the above issues I do not consider Adobe to be a professional product, it is an overcomplicated toy. I found a number of other solutions, the current one I use is Davinci Resolve as it seemed to either solve the above issues or was at least an improvement (and was free). Just going to echo DaVinci Resolve. I worked only for about 4 months with AE and didn't learn much. With Fusion in DR, it took me no time to ramp up; the nodes made more sense than the layers in AE. Now I could use AE better, but why pay the money when I already have DR, which is Video editing, Visual effects, color grading, and Audio all in one program. Adobe needs to do the same to keep people like yourself and not pay for 3-4 different subscriptions; great video, by the way, and best luck. I hope Adobe hears you!

Now I haven't used the non-adobe software, but it comes across that they tend to rely on AI for some things that I feel a designer should learn to do from scratch, so that they know the technical side of effects etc. Yeah, sometimes things like AI can help speed up creation therefore work flow, but AI results can be pretty crap. I would rather know how to actually solve a problem than just be pushing pixels. I like that the community can create plug ins and that they have the chance to earn on the back of adobe products. Sure, some of them should be included as standard, but if they all were that would be a hell of a file to download. Also because design trends change, some plug ins may be popular one moment and then hardly used the next 🤷‍♀️ I am happy with Adobe at the mo, never say never on learning new software, but currently, I like how my work flow is seamless between the adobe suite amongst other things. Adobe XD can get in the bin though.

    1. InDesign. 2. Acrobat. That's the only reason I'm stuck with them, and it's for client projects. Everything else in their toolset exists elsewhere. Further, they invest far too little in meaningful improvements/fixes, and far too much adding features nobody asked for and buying other companies whose software competes with their own, then kills off their own & charges extra for the others. Brilliant for investors, maybe, but not so much for the endless number of artists who made it possible. Subscriptions killed innovation.

100% all Adobe users should bring a class action against the company due to the millions of hours in lost time fixing things they break each update; plus for researching to, and working around the latest bugs. The ONLY reasons I use Adobe products is that I've invested thousands of dollars in AE and PPRO plugins, AND that still the vast majority of users in the corporate / industrials / agency game unfortunately STILL use PPRO, AND AE is still a great tool even if it is like using a tool from the 90's / early 2000's for most tasks. IF I had only a few million in funding I could engineer THE ABSOLUTE BEST CREATIVE TOOL for high tier creative workflows all the way to consumer, all in one slick, non bloated, user friendly platform with the capacity for unlimited finesse. THERE IS SUCH A MASSIVE GAP IN THIS MARKET. NOTHING OUT THERE AT THE MOMENT COVERS EVERYTHING REQUIRED, and MOST LACK FINESSE, which is what is required at the professional level. The impact this kind of software if done right would have would be like introducing iTunes / Spotify for music for the first time, or iPhones / smartphones to consumers for the first time. IF done right you would capture EVERY creative market excluding only those at the highest end level of the 3D and visual effects industries. Adobe REALLY DOESN'T GET IT!! THEY'RE A BUSINESS THAT'S FULL OF "FULL TIMERS", FAR TOO COMFORTABLE IN THEIR ROLES, HAPPY TO "JUST EXIST" OR "JUST DO ENOUGH" WHICH IS WHY THEY ARE SO VERY LACKING!! As you say, they've been around for over 3 decades, and in this last decade have amassed amazing wealth BUT have not even remotely kept an semblance of pace with the innovations in software and hardware development, across any of the creative spaces. They should be regarded as, and be a greater business than Apple or Microsoft by now, but they're less innovative than your local laundromat. Adobe feels like a bloated government. Plenty of funds going in, very few stable or helpful outputs coming out; but also a serious lack of outputs in response to what we actually demand!

I am always baffled by the complaints that Adobe's suite is too expensive. If you're a hobbyist, then yes, it's probably too expensive. But if you're ANY level of professional, $60 a month for EVERYTHING is a drop in the bucket. If you aren't able to pay back the subscription price with earnings, then this might not be the career for you. It's the price you pay to be a professional, and (for the most part) use software and file formats that is industry standard. You send a Photoshop document or Illustrator file to a professional company/client/magazine/etc, they will be able to open it seamlessly. The minute you start using other apps, you introduce the possibility that the exported file, even if it's in the psd or ai format, might have some sort of janky element in it. Whenever I see someone complain loudly about $60 a month, that just instantly lets me know they aren't professionals.
