What are the differences between Recovery Straps and Towing Straps?
Our recovery straps, also known as snatch recovery straps, are made from industrial-grade nylon for a higher stretch value and are available in a wide variety of widths, lengths, and plies, so it's easy to find the right one for your application. They're used for "recovering" a vehicle that's immobilized and are also known as snatch straps for the ability to "snatch" a vehicle from a stuck position.
Tow straps, on the other hand, are made from polyester, a material with less stretch than nylon. This reduces the chances of the car or pickup sling-shotting on the road as you tow it. They're used for towing a "free-wheeling" vehicle behind another, and usually has a hook on each end. These should NOT be used for recovering a vehicle because of the lack of stretch increases the chances that the strap could snap.

Nice video. Here's my 2 cents. When I started off roading 40 years ago, all we had were tow chains. We always took up the slack before towing so not to rip off bumpers, etc. I view tow straps as similar, just with a little more give. Both of these methods require the tow vehicle to have the advantage over the vehicle being towed, either by weight or dry/hard surface. If the tow was not successful, usually a tow truck was necessary to make the tow. I see a kinetic recovery strap as a way to use the energy of the strap to allow a similar size vehicle to assist another. I do see potential for damage to one or both vehicles if not done properly. I now have two tow straps as the chains are heavy to carry around, but I am looking at a good kinetic strap to have and use as well.

Good video thanks for posting! I have had a few tow straps that have a little bit of stretch to them. These make little to no jerking while towing a vehicle down the road. Recovery straps are great all around. Even if you are not yanking on a stuck vehicle only pulling gradually on it to pull it out, it will help you build energy as you are gaining ground ahead of the stuck vehicle and building force. I find a lot of tow straps have hooked ends and can be made of polyester, and rec. Are looped

@USCargoControl will the recovery strap stretch in a freewheel situation? should it be treated differently while towing?
